In the field of engineering hydrology, I have conducted extensive research on developing new methods for, among other things: hydrological time series data improvement (i.e., filling gaps, extending short records, etc.); input variable selection for hydrological models; hydro-meteorological trend estimation; and hydrological forecasting. For example, I have made significant contributions to try and address the issues of non-linearity, non-stationarity, and uncertainty assessment in artificial intelligence based hydrological forecasting. In the field of water resources management, I have conducted research in a number of areas, including: i) developing a new Participatory Model Building Framework (PMBF); ii) developing a new approach (that is part of the PMBF) in socio-hydrological modeling to dynamically link stakeholder-built system dynamics models with physical/process based models; iii) a critical examination of the concept of payments for ecosystem services, as well as exploring the use of ‘frame theory’ in the context of ecosystem services to facilitate conflict resolution related to contentious water strategies and policies; iv) and exploring the use of ‘virtual learning platforms’ to facilitate multi-loop social learning in water resources management. As an example of my research in water resources management, I developed a new and unique participatory model building approach, called the Participatory Model Building Framework (PMBF), which facilitates the representation and dynamic modeling of the interactions and feedbacks between physical (e.g., hydrological and related environmental processes) and socio- economic processes in water systems, and also includes key stakeholders in the development and use of the model. McGILL UNIVERSITY SERVICE POSITIONS [1] Director - Master of Science in Integrated Water Resources Management Program. 2009-present. Duties:

▫ Administer all aspects of the one year non-thesis program. ▫ Recruit a new cohort of students each year (~20-40 new students each year). ▫ Advise/supervise each student in the program during the year. I am their only supervisor/advisor for all aspects of their MSc degree. ▫ Teach four courses in the program (BREE 510, BREE 630, BREE 631, BREE 655). ▫ Organize ~10 guest lectures per year (e.g., UN, World Bank, CH2MHILL, World Resources Institute). ▫ Organize ~8 site visits/year (e.g., International Joint Commission, Environment Canada, AECOM). ▫ Supervise ~10 independent research projects (BREE 608, BREE 672) during the fall and winter terms. ▫ Supervise each student during their 13 week internship (BREE 630 and 631) during the summer term.

Additional activities: ▫ Proposed, renovated and established an ‘IWRM room’ for the students (2010). ▫ Significantly modified the structure and courses of the MSc in IWRM program (in 2010 and 2013). ▫ Significantly increased the international scope and type of internships available for the students from ~10 to over ~100 internships. ▫ Developed a yearly advertisement campaign resulting in the program size increasing to 20-40 students per year (from around 10-15 previously). ▫ Manage the Zavalkoff Fellowship (endowed amount of 250 000$), Tim Casgrain Water Travel Fund (125 000$), and Macaulay Institute Scholarship (endowed amount of 50 000$) each year. These funds provide ~$50 000 every year to six students in the program for a research internship at any university in the UK, or in Israel. ▫ Instigated a new (amount of 100 000$) yearly scholarship for IWRM students (the Casgrain Family Water Scholarship) for research related to First Nations in Canada. ▫ Host and supervise (for 3 month periods) exchange students from our partner universities in Israel and UK. ▫ Developed a new IWRM program website in 2014. ▫ Proposed and developed a new 8 week Online Certification Program in Integrated and Adaptive Water Resources Planning, Management, and Governance. First course held in 2013, and it is now held every year (with ~20-40 students enrolled each year).

[2] Interim Director – Brace Centre for Water Resources Management. 2017- Duties:

▫ Organize and invite guest speakers to Brace Centre seminars, symposiums and talks. ▫ Chair Brace Centre seminars and talks. ▫ In the process of re-developing the Brace Centre pamphlet and newsletter.
