  • welcomeWe are pleased to welcome you to EOI Escuela de OrganizacinIndustrial and our Flexible MBA (#flexiblemba), designed withinthe framework of our open school vision, and in collaborationwith a diverse groups of stakeholders (companies, alumni, professors, etc.)

Living the MBA experience at EOI is much more than a trainingperiod for obtaining know-how and skills. More than anythingelse it is a path of personal and professional advancement whichenables the professional development of all the participants.

The MBA has two identifying marks. First, the overall programmevision aimed at igniting an entrepreneurial spirit that is essentialin the environment in which we live. This entrepreneurial attitudeis vital both for those who want to launch their own businessventure and those who want to advance their professional careerin the corporate environment. An entrepreneurial attitudecharacterised by initiative, creativity, and passion is, and isdestined to be more so, the factor that sets one professional apartfrom the next.

Moreover, the possibility of personalising the MBA programmeby choosing different options enables each person to configurehis training trajectory based on different variables (duration, language, speciality, international experience). The Flexible MBAis an innovative response by EOI for meeting the diverse trainingneeds of each individual.

In short, it is a unique opportunity to live a different trainingand professional development experience together with anexceptional team of professors. Were waiting for you.

    3EOI ESCUELA DE ORGANIZACIN INDUSTRIAL

The current economic situation has created a complexenvironment for all types of companies and organisations, and that continues to create an increasingly uncertainbusiness context. In this situation traditional strategies arerendered less effective and useful, which means that whenthis high level of uncertainty is added, even new strategieshave a much shorter lifetime.

This creates the need for finding new ways of doing things.New opportunities must be identified, adapted and createdfor configuring products, services, processes and newbusiness models. These challenges demand a professionalprofile grounded on leadership and management in achanging environment.

As a vanguard business school, EOI responds to thesechallenges by stepping up to train new leaders. Our missionis to give a unique reply that stands out from these challengesand enables our students to attain the skills needed to takeon this responsibility.

Our students discover and develop their leadership talentsand gain new skills and competencies as part of a group ofstudents and a global pool of professors to help them improvetheir employability and become part of an extensive socialnetwork.

EOI offers a flexible programme that adapts itself to yourneeds. We offer you the possibility of tailoring the programmeto your needs and preferences. You will be able to influenceand define your own speciality.

Our teaching method focuses on problem solving and reallife situations, developing the skills to connect teams andnetworks (formal and informal), and supporting co-creationand co-work.

We emphasise innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainabilityas key concepts for understanding and being successful inthese new environments.

We want this program to be an unforgettable experience, where you are at the heart, and you hold the key for decidingwhat you want to make of it.

I invite you to get to know us better.

  • eoi escuela de organizacinindustrialEOI opened its doors on July 12, 1955 as the result of an agreementbetween the Ministries of Education and Industry. It was thefirst business school in Spain and one of the first in Europe.

You can find out more about the passionate history of those yearsin the book EOI, 50 Years in the Vanguard, by the journalistPedro A. Muoz with the contribution of Professor Emilio deDiegos valuable investigative work on the Schools history, published in 2005 as part of the celebrations of the Schools 50thanniversary.

During our 50 plus years we have made a decisive contributionto the modernisation of the Spanish economy and industry, andhave been the protagonists of some of the most importantmilestones in the training of directors in Spain. For instance, in1976 we began offering Environmental Programmes, making usthe First Environmental Business School to award officiallyrecognised diplomas.

Throughout our history we have reached very importantlandmarks, which have established us as the dean of schoolsof centres imparting knowledge and training in Spain.

programmevisionto boost an entrepreneurialattitudeThe world we live in has changed and is changing at a breathtakingspeed. WWhhaatt sshhoouulldd pprrooffeessssiioonnaallss wwhhoo lleeaadd oorrggaanniissaattiioonnss bbee lliikkeeiinn tthhiiss ttyyppee ooff eennvviirroonnmmeenntt?? This is the big question we askedourselves when we defined our vision of the MBA.

This is why we, together with diverse stakeholders, carried outan analysis of the current situation and in the foreseeable future.

    Characteristics of the current situation:

    > AAcccceelleerraattiinngg cchhaannggee.. If anything is characteristic of the timeswe live in, it is no longer change itself, but the acceleratingpace of the changes. The environments are changing atunprecedented speeds, requiring companies and professionalsto adapt themselves to living in these changing environments.

    > GGlloobbaalliissaattiioonn.. Economic activity does not have any borders.Any company can compete globally at its level and anyprofessional can carry out his work in any environment. Talentis also global and companies compete for professionals witha global mentality.

    > UUnncceerrttaaiinnttyy.. Living and working with uncertainty. The speedof the changes means the future is less foreseeable andmore uncertain. The survivors will be the companies andprofessionals who know how to manage uncertainty andadapt themselves to constant changes.

    > TToottaall ccoonnnneeccttiivviittyy.. This is undoubtedly one of the greatestchanges in the last 20 years and one that has only becomestronger in the last few years. The whole world is connectedand with it, the flow of information increases exponentially. This has changed the rules about how companies relate totheir customers and their professionals. The Internet culturebased on freedom and transparency has changed the oldrules.

    > PPeerrmmaanneenntt iinnnnoovvaattiioonn.. Clearly permanent innovation is theonly response to accelerating change, globalisation, uncertainty and total connectivity. Although perhapspermanent innovation is what has given rise to all of theseaspects that characterise the current situation. Clearlyinnovation has made its way into every level: products, services, processes and management, especially management.

  • What traits does a professional need in this newenvironment?

In the words of Gary Hamel in What matters now, in a morestable, local environment with a slower pace of innovation, aprofessional would build his career emphasizing three elements:obedience, diligence and know-how.

However, all of those have become a commodity, somethingundifferentiated which, in the global market, millions of peopleoffer.

A professionals differentiation will come from other attitudes andbehaviours characterised by:

    > IInniittiiaattiivvee.. The ability to propose new bases and solutionswithout waiting for any type of indication, in search of per-manent improvement.

    > CCrreeaattiivviittyy.. The ability to find new solutions, to focus onindividuals and escape the prevailing status quo in anorganization.

    > PPaassssiioonn.. Energy, enthusiasm, desire, drive, putting life intothe efforts to reach a goal.

And how do we at EOI define these traits? We call it ENTREPRENEURIAL ATTITUDE, the attitude that enablesprofessionals to work on their own project or in the corporate worldand develop and grow in this new environment.

Initiative, creativity andpassions - the traits ofEntrepreneurial Attitude

Helping professionals understand the new environment inwhich they will have to develop by igniting among themselvesan entrepreneurial attitude through initiative, creativity andpassion, with a strong ethical component that will enablethem to create wealth and employment in the environmentwhere they carry out their responsibilities.

    3. Entrepreneurship Project

    2. interiores mba flexible ingls 1.qxd 31/5/13 12:03 Pgina 6

  • The entrepreneurship project is one of the central themes ofthe programme for igniting a clear entrepreneurial attitude inall the participants.

At EOI we believe the best way to add value to our studententrepreneurs is providing them methodologies and tools toenable them to create successful businesses in todays complexenvironment.

We likewise think that the most effective way of learning thesemethodologies is from experience, in other words, learning bydoing. Thus, as the core of the programme, our studententrepreneurs launch a start up using the same principles andmethodologies used by thousands of entrepreneurs in SiliconValley, the Stanford d-school, the Tiimiakatemia of Finland andthe Universities of Columbia and Berkeley.

The methodology has three phases: the design phase, validationphase and planning phase.

In the ddeessiiggnn phase students learn to use tools from designthinking. They learn to create and design work teams oriented tostart ups, use observation tools from design research for detectingopportunities, and design value proposals based on the detectedneeds of customers. They will also learn how to apply creativitytechniques adapted to business model designs, use visualthinking techniques or techniques from service design. We are in

a phase that is focused towards design and where the studentobserves people and puts them at the core of his model.

The second phase is based on vvaalliiddaattiioonn aanndd bbuussiinneessss mmooddeellpprroottoottyyppiinngg, where our students go out onto the streets lookingfor the customer. We call this the outside the building phase, where the entrepreneur defines his hypotheses of his businessmodel and goes out to validate them in the market. The differentparts of the model are tested by looking for the product solutionfit and the product market fit. Here we are in a phase that is focusedon action, were the student discovers the customer and findshis first early adopters who enable him to understand and learnabout the customer and what he is willing to pay for the valueproposition.

Learn, Design, MeasureIdeas, Product, InformationThe third phase is based on ddeevveellooppmmeenntt aanndd eexxeeccuuttiioonn ooff tthheeBBuussiinneessss PPllaann, where the investment costs and profitability arecalculated, Marketing plans and business planning are designed, contingency plans created, and even arguments are thoughtout for seeking investors. Here we are in a phase with an executivefocus where the student plans and executes the previouslydesigned and validated plan. The goal is for our students to livein first person the experience of creating a real start up, whichmay even become his personal project after finishing theprogramme.

At EOI we know that the world moves very fast and to obtain newresults we need to come up with different ways of thinking anddoing things. That is why we innovate with our own businesscreation methodologies to adapt them to the new businessenvironment. Throughout this process students are mentored bythe schools professors, many of whom are themselves successfulentrepreneurs, businessmen or business angels who guide andare at their studentssides as they develop, in many cases openingdoors to important networking. Creating a start up involves givingour students a complete vision of how to carry forward a realbusiness and be aware of all of the variables that could affect thebusiness success.

  • methodologyOne of the aspects that distinguishes studying an MBA at EOI isthe different methodologies we use with the goal of fomentingentrepreneurial attitude development in our students.

This is achieved by combining different methodologies, of whichstand out:

    Mobile learning

Learning is not limited onlyto a classroom and a limitedtime, rather learning can becontinuous and ubiquitousTechnologies enable us to take learning beyond the classroomand make it mobile with devices like tablets. That is why overthree years ago EOI began advancing the mobile learningmethodology through diverse applications (blogs, Google Site,Video). In this way the MBA learning experience combines faceto face, which favours relational aspects and the development ofdifferent skills, with the use of technology, which facilitatespermanent contact and makes learning more intense in everysurrounding, resulting in a complete experience.

    Learning by doing

Build to think, not think tobuildThe traditional business school model is an analytical model, where highly rational thinking was emphasised to the point ofexcluding other factors. However, the new reality makes constantexperimenting necessary. Therefore, there is nothing better thanusing a methodology where you learn by experimenting.

    Design thinking

People at the core of thesolutions to problemsOrganisations need people to solve problems, but by finding newinnovative perspectives. With design thinking, where observationis a basic premise, students will be able to develop more creativesolutions that put individuals and their needs at the core of thesolution.
