Piscataway is very fortunate to have asmany volunteers as we have. There are somany residents willing to step up to theplate when needed. Our volunteer firecompanies, our rescue squads and ourBoards and Commissions are to beapplauded and thanked for their selflessdedication to our community. Ourrecent STREET FAIR, run by PublicRelations Commission members, LeGinaAdams, Chair, was a perfect example ofvolunteers coming together to organizean outstanding annual event. Thesummer CONCERT IN THE PARKSERIES, orchestrated by the CulturalArts Commission, Kitty Juttner, Chair, isanother outstanding example ofvolunteers in action. The concerts beginon JJJJJuuuuuly 6ly 6ly 6ly 6ly 6ttttthhhhh and will conclude on AAAAAuuuuuggggguuuuusssssttttt3131313131sssssttttt. They are held on Thursdays at 7p.m. in Columbus Park Extension in theGazebo. In the event of bad weather theconcert will be held in the Senior

Citizens Center (behind J. F. KennedyLibrary). I hope you will all plan to spendThursday evenings in July and August inColumbus Park. It’s a wonderful way tospend a relaxing summer evening close tohome. You won’t be disappointed!

**The newest addition to the museum’s permanent collection is a Federal period linen press built by Matthew Egerton, Jr., a late 18th

century New Brunswick joiner and cabinetmaker. Worth noting is that when an artifact is accessioned into the museum’s permanentcollection, it becomes the property of Piscataway Township (i.e., its residents). Three generations of Egertons were furniture makers inNew Brunswick from the 1760s to 1838 and were highly sought after for their beautifully made desks, cradles, tables, sideboards,bookcases, clock cases, and more. Litigation regarding the Halper property is stillongoing in the Superior Court concerningenvironmental issues. Halper family members areresisting the Township’s efforts to clean up the significantand wide-spread contamination on the property whichtook place when the Halpers owned the property Once the property has been remediated plans are tocreate a nature park that will include a reforesting of theproperty, creating a nature area with a variety of plants,flowers, and trees and providing natural walking trails.The Township has already put in place numeroussafeguards to protect the property. The Township is prohibited by the Superior Courtfrom disturbing the contaminated parts of the land butthe Township is seeking to demolish the existingbuildings on the property.
