COURSE HIGHLIGHTS
This symposium is intended for Hepatologists, Gastroenterologists,
and specialists in liver transplantation, primary care, and allied health
professionals with an interest in the latest in-depth topics and updates
concerning liver diseases and liver transplantation. This two-day intensive
course features interactive lectures; a “Meet the Professor” breakout session;
and discussion of questions via use of an audience response system to
provide an optional learning experience for audience discussion of questions
using an interactive response system. Topics in the course may help prepare
for the upcoming Certificate of Added Qualification in Liver Transplantation.
COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
• Define management and treatment strategies for Hepatitis C and B
• Explain basic liver pathology
• Assess management of metabolic liver disease
• Identify the appropriate treatment strategies for patients with
hepatocellular carcinoma
• Assess the complications associated with end stage liver disease
• Identify appropriate candidates for living donor liver transplantation
• Manage the long-term complications associated with liver transplantation

HANDS-ON SIMULATORSSophisticated endoscopic simulators will be available for hands-on use by courseregistrants during this optional afternoon activity. These technologies allow theparticipant to train and/or test their skills with Colonoscopy, ERCP, and specificendoscopic therapies, such as the management of GI bleeding. A limited numberof simulators will be available Tuesday-Thursday in half-hour sessions.
ENDOSCOPY LEARNING CENTERThe Endoscopy Learning Center is a collection of more than 50 videotapesdeveloped by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. These tapes,with audio commentary, demonstrate both basic and advanced procedures. Thelearning center is on a drop-in basis and will be available Tuesday-Thursdayfrom 1:00-3:30 pm.
