help provide you with ev-erything from home health care, non-medical transpor-tation, home modifications and assistive technologies all aimed at making your life easier. With so many options available, what’s the easiest way to navigate all of this and figure out which services you may need and possibly qualify for under Pennsyl-vania’s Waivers Programs?

This is the mission of a com-pany called Casey Ball Sup-ports Coordination, or CBSC. “We help individuals navi-gate the red tape and get the things they need to stay safe, stay at home and maintain their quality of life,” says owner and CEO Casey Ball. The first step is getting an assessment and determining eligibility. “We take time with each person to identify their needs and we do this with a personal touch that makes the individual feel comfortable. Our coordinators listen to the needs and wants of the individual. We help them understand the guide-lines and become enrolled, if eligible.

Thomas Skidmore, 42, of Baldwin Township has continually received Adult Autism Waiver (AAW) services since 2010 and has worked with CBSC since 2011. Through CBSC’s sup-portive efforts and additional community inclusion services, as well as behavioral specialist services provided through AAW, he has achieved the means to live on his own, where he maintains a consistent level of success in most aspects of his life, including financial and personal.

To qualify for Aging Waiver, you must be a Pennsylvania resident age 60 and older, meet the level of care needs for a skilled nursing facility home and meet financial requirements as determined by the local county assistance office. Once you qualify, you are able to choose the service providers that you deem worth to assist you. CBSC’s trained service coordina-tors can help you navigate and select services, then develop a plan to set up and organize those services on your behalf.

What kinds of services are available? Here’s an overview:

4 Personal Assistance Services: Help with activities of daily living such as bathing, cooking, shopping and light house cleaning.

4 Community Integration: Tools for living independently, like learning how to find public transportation at a new place of residency.

4 Home Modifications: Help with adapting your place of residency so that you have greater mobility and ease with everyday activities. Modifications could include stair glides, vertical lifts, roll-in showers, automatic door openers, toilet seats raises, grab bars, an elevator, front entrance ramp and converting a home for wheelchair access.

4 Durable Medical Equipment: Adaptive equipment that can make your life easier, such as hearing aides, shower benches, bedside commodes, walkers and canes, scooters and wheelchairs, standing and positioning devices, augmented communication devices and computers with special hard-ware or software.

4 Personal Emergency Response System: This device can assist you if there is a need for emergency help and no one is at home.

4 Non-Medical Transportation: Assistance with traveling to and from appointments that are non-medical in nature, such as trips to the grocery store or pharmacist.

4 Coordination of Non-Waiver Services: Help with finding and accessing services that are not part of the Waiver, such as finding a doctor or a dentist and applying for job training.

Services are monitored on an ongoing basis to ensure that you are living the best quality of life.

Butler County Area Agency on Aging Senior Express

It’s something that older adults in Butler County look forward to every year: locally grown fresh produce, chock full of nutrition and ready for warm weather

recipes. Eligible Butler County residents ages 60 and older also look forward to receiving their Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers during the growing season. Individuals receive four $5 vouchers per season, and married couples receive eight $5 vouchers per season.

FMNP vouchers are distributed by the Butler County Area Agency on Aging. (There is an income eligibility component, but information for this year has not yet been released.) All income must be tallied; for example, wages, Social Security, pensions, VA benefits, interest and with-drawals from annuities.

Seniors residing in facilities such as nursing homes, per-sonal care homes or domiciliary care homes where meals are prepared are not eligible to receive vouchers.

Vouchers will be distributed beginning June 2 and will con-tinue while supplies last. All eligible participants must show documentation of age and county residency; documentation of income is not needed. Vouchers will only be distributed at the community distribution sites listed in this issue of Butler County Senior News. Vouchers cannot be mailed.

If you are unable to come to the community sites, you may send a friend or relative with required documentation (your identification to verify age and residency) and a completed proxy form. Proxy forms are available by calling (724) 282-3008, online at www.co.butler.pa.us or by email request to [email protected]. There is also a proxy form in this issue of Butler County Senior News that you can fill out and bring to one of the sites. Each proxy form must contain only one person; forms having more than one person (even if they are husband and wife) will not be accepted. Vouchers are like cash, so keep them in a safe place. Lost or stolen vouchers cannot be replaced.

The Area Agency on Aging administers programs and manages services for Butler County residents who are 60 years of age or older. Two ladies were out shopping when they started to discuss their home lives, one said, “Seems like all Alfred and I do anymore is fight. I’ve been so upset I’ve lost 20 pounds.”

“Why don’t you just leave him then?” asked her friend.

“Oh! Not yet.” the first replied, “I’d like to lose at least another fifteen pounds first.”

Slow golfers are ahead of us

Joe decides to take his boss Phil to play 9 holes on their lunch. While both men are playing excellent they are often held up by two women in front of them moving at a very slow pace. Joe offers to talk to the women and see if they can speed it up a bit. He gets about half of the way there stops and jogs back.

His boss asks what the problem is. “Well one of those women is my wife and the other my mistress,” complained Joe. Phil just shook his head at Joe and started toward the women determined to finish his round of golf. Preparing to ask the ladies to speed up their game, he too stopped short and turned around.

Joe asked “what’s wrong?” It’s a small, small world Joe, and you’re fired.”
