I would like to thank all the people that came to Springfield Airport on that cold and windy Tuesday evening to welcome all the veterans, including me,

that were returning from the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

I also want to say thanks for all the cards and

letters sent to me for mail call. What a surprise! The trip was overwhelming, even if it did snow

and the wind blew, most of the day.

Thanks again for a great memory. - Russel Miner

Thank You

I want to thank everyone for all of the cards, calls and especially your prayers

during my recent hospital stay. I feel blessed to be in a community of such car-

ing people.

“Angels Among Us”

Everyone once in a while you will see this angel walking her dogs, disguised as a

regular human, with bright colored glasses, long legs and a healthy stride. She likes to

be called “Paula” but if you are ever in need of her in the hospital you will know

that she is an “Angel in Diguise.”

A 1960 graduate of Ashland High School, Fred has recorded and toured with some of the biggest names in the busi-ness. When interviewed, he always says he is from "Ashland, IL" not a "little town near Springfield," or some other better-known city. Over the years, he has been in the area many times performing with various musi-cians. On May 25 at 7 p.m. at Guitars and Cadillacs in Springfield, he will be with Waylon Jennings' son Shooter and the band, "Waymore's Outlaws."The band is Waylon's last touring and recording group. ASHLAND/PLEASANT PLAINS MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION One of the great things about living in Central Illinois is the fact that there are four distinct seasons. We have just experience one of the more challenging winter seasons in a very long time. But right now everything out-side is telling me that springtime is here. The grass is green and the air smells of turned earth. Bring out the short sleeves and the umbrella! Put the windows up! The sun warms us as the birds sing and insects buzz. Springtime calls everything and everyone to come forth in newness. Our gardens are sprouting and the flow-ers are blooming. Springtime demands that we clean up our yards and make new efforts to kill the weeds in our lives. Plant the flowers that will last until autumn comes again. Every season seems to come with its ben-efits and its dangers. I find that life also comes in seasons. Springtime is the picture of hope. Springtime says that no matter how cold, how bitter, how bad the winter, it will end. Life comes forth again. Things will become green. Fruitful-ness will return. The difficult seasons of life will come and go our entire lives. God is always working in each season of our lives. Even though the pruning is sometimes very painful, the results are worth the pain. With Jesus’s help we experience perseverance and become stronger and closer to Him. Our experience then can help others. Look for the people that are in a “hard winter season”. They need our encouragement. Encouragement is tangible. Whether it be by touch, words, gifts, etc., encouragement is a tangible commodity. As a follower of Christ, we are to offer tangible encouragement to others as we recognize the difficult season they are in. Isaiah 41:10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Matthew 11:28-29 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
