The POSITIONSJAMMER: The players with the star on their helmets use speed and agility to score as many points as possible during each jam.LEAD JAMMER: The first jammer to get through the pack legally can call off the jam anytime by tapping her hands repeatedly on her hips.PACK: Three blockers and one pivot from each team attempt to stop the opposing jammer from scoring points.PIVOT: The players with the stripe on their helmets are eligible for a star pass.BLOCKERS: These versatile players clear a path for their jammer and block the opposing jammer.
CAN She DO ThAT?!?LEGAL• Torso and hip checks from the side• Blocking with the upper arm • Whipping or pushing a member of your

WhAT IS GOING ON?HOW WE ROLL• Each game, consists of two
30-minute periods.
• Each period contains multiple jams that can last up to 2 minutes.
• Before each jam, 5 players from each team line up on the track.
• The pack and jammers are released at the single whistle.
• The first jammer to make it through the pack legally is called lead jammer.
HOW WE SCORE• Jammers are the only players who can
score points, but first they have to make it through the pack once.
• On their second trip through the pack, jammers gain a point for each opposing player they pass legally.
• The lead jammer controls the score by calling off the jam at anytime. She does this by tapping her hands on her hips.
NEW FOR 2013• Jammers are released at the same time
as the pack on a single whistle.
• Minor penalties have been eliminated.
• Skaters may accrue 6 trips to the box during a game but on the 7th they foul-out and are removed from gameplay.
• Penalties are assessed based on total impact not just initiation of contact.

The Foco MicroBruisers, Foco Girls Gone Derby’s travel team, competed in the Colorado Cup hosted by the Denver Roller Dolls on April 27-28. Six roller derby leagues from the region participated in the tournament. Slim’s record-breaking jam (50 points)assisted in the MicroBruisers’ 351-85 win over the Castle Rock ‘n’ Rollers.
The Bruisers lost to Salida’s Ark Valley High Rollers, 212-144, and fell short by 10 points against the Crossroads City Sucias (Las Cruces, N.M.), 220-210.
Following the Colorado Cup, the Micro Bruisers jumped
15 points in competitive rankings, according to FlatTrackStats.com, which labeled Foco one of the “biggest movers” of the week among WFTDA sanctioned leagues.
The MicroBruisers are climbing the rankings again after placing third in the Mayday Mayhem tournament hosted by the Slaughterhouse Derby Girls in Greeley on May 3-5. The
Bruisers won four of their six bouts and took away the bronze trophy. Foco fell to Sioux City, 234-110, and Junction City, 257-154, but trumped the Cheyenne
Capidolls, 221-123, Central Coast (Calif.), 208-178, and Pueblo -- in two matches, 255-88 and 234-174.
