ANNOUNCEMENTS

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

In an effort to promote the warm community feeling we strive for here at KMS, we introduce you to two KMS members each week. We hope you enjoy meeting your fellow members and will use these brief bios as a catalyst to introduce yourself to others at KMS.

AHAVA & EPHRAIM LEIBTAG Ahava and Ephraim Leibtag moved to Kemp Mill in 2002 as they finished their graduate degrees after 2 exciting years in Col-lege Park (the Terps won the NCAA Men's Basketball Champion-ship and students burned some couches on Route 1). When not

planning and preparing for the KMS High Holidays, Ephraim runs the most competitive Fantasy Football league in Kemp Mill and ensures that the USDA is using the best economic data, research, and statistics when making food and agriculture policy decisions. Ahava runs a mar-keting firm and in her spare time plays the guitar. They have 3 chil-dren: Tzophia, 14, Amaya, 12, and Navon, 8, who all attend Berman Hebrew Academy. The Leibtags served loyally during the Silberman and Klonsky administrations and Ephraim continues to help out when the Ritual Committee or ExComm Search Committee call upon him. Ahava helps any and all Committee Chairs who are looking for an hon-est assessment of their ideas (or anyone, let’s be honest). They appre-ciate the efficient services, thought-provoking shiurim and drashot, and openness to different viewpoints among their fellow KMS mem-bers.

ATARA MARGOLIES & MIKE SERLIN Atara Margolies and Mike Serlin moved to Kemp

Mill in 2014 after spending a decade living on the

Upper West Side of Manhattan, thus ensuring

that their kids would be “out of towners” (phew).

They are the proud parents of Noam, 6 and Nava,

3. Noam attends kindergarten at CESJDS and

spends as much time as possible playing baseball

in preparation for his future MLB career. Nava is

in preschool and is enthusiastic about lollipops at

shul. Mike is a dedicated Chicagoan (Go Cubs

Go!) who has still not come to terms with the fact

that he has been living on the East Coast for 17

years. Atara grew up in Baltimore and spent nu-

merous shabbatot at KMS when it was in the

house during her high school years at Hebrew

Academy. Mike is an infectious diseases physi-

cian specializing in the care of HIV positive patients, and is currently serving as the

medical director for Family Medical Counseling Service, an outpatient clinic in

Washington, DC. Atara is an architect at Quinn Evans Architects where she de-

signs educational and cultural facilities. In fact, while in college, she worked at the

firm that was building KMS and attended several construction meetings on site

when she was a clueless student intern. Atara and Mike appreciate the numerous

minyanim at KMS, as that allows parents with young children to figure out how to

make shabbat morning work for them, in addition to the focus on youth program-

ming and the participatory davening on yamim noraim.
