Pres Report Number 7. Wow, over half way there and I’m still no better at structuring what to write in these things, lol. Where to start this time? I guess a ‘Hi All’ is in order. Well, I wasn’t able to get to the last Committee Meeting as work unfortunately got in my way, but I did manage to get a download from those in attendance. The club purchase of a personal EPERB was passed at the last General Meeting. The intent of the EPERB will be to take it on trips to provide a greater safety margin should something go drastically wrong. At the recent 4WD and Camping show there was a salesperson peddling safety gear and EPERBs and he said that he could do us a deal. His EPERB has a 5 year battery life and is the same as the one that Johno brought to the last General Meeting for a show-n-tell. Thanks again Johno for borrowing the EPERB and satellite phones and briefing us on their uses and shortfalls. Anyway, we have the details of the salesman from the show and we will be trying to call him on his offer. One issue that I will be trying to sort out is the registration of the EPERB to a club/club member but I hope to have that sorted by the next General Meeting. Following on from the EPERB and safety side of things, the Committee believes that there is value in paying for 2 club members to undertake a St John First Aid Course in the near future. The Committee will offer the training to the two members who have attended the most trips over the last year; by doing this we expect that those 2 members will also be attending the majority of trips in the coming years and represent the best value for money for the club. John McKenna will be sifting through the trip sheets to do the number crunching and will report back to the Committee once sorted. On a promotional front, we are still getting quotes in for the stubby holders with another quote hitting our door this Wednesday after the Committee Meeting. The last was from a local provider and the quote is competitive but the final decision will come down to cost. There is a small issue with the printable format of our graphic but I’m sure this will be addressed next week. The spray jackets haven’t been forgotten but unfortunately the supplier hasn’t gotten back to our woman on the inside. I expect that they are still swamped with school requests but we will still hope to get there. On the trip front, we have had one in recent times to the Jondaryan Woolshed. It was a great trip with a good turnout and even though the weather and impending flooding was against us, we all had a good time. A trip report was compiled by one of our newest members (Ben) and I have it on authority that a supplementary trip report was underway for the day after when Ben and Peter departed for the weekend. A Gordon Country trip is scheduled for this coming weekend and fingers crossed, there will be no RAIN. On a down side, the club has lost John French Motors as a sponsor as of this issue. I would like to pass on my thanks to them for the years of support that they have thrown our way & I have personally found them to be a wealth of knowledge on all things Subaru mechanical. On an upside though, John French Motors are still keen to give club members a discount on parts and service so remember to drop the ‘Subaclub’ name with them if you need some work done. May already, nearly half way through the year. After a few camping trips, this month we have 2 good day trips, the first to Widgee and Kilkivan areas, the next to Duck Creek Rd and Mt Tamborine. Also you will see we have moved Inskip Pt to the October long weekend and for the June long weekend we are now off to Sundown N/P near Stanthorpe. Also if you are interested in helping the Club's Team Charlie crew at the ARC Rally Qld in July and

the WRC Rally Australia in September, you need to register online as an official.

There is no reason to stay home, get out and about and enjoy our great outdoors. Also if you have

an idea for a trip you would like to run please see me, so we can get it up and running.

How to Lock Your Car and Why I locked my car. As I walked away I heard my car door unlock. I went back and locked my car again three times.

Each time, as soon as I started to walk away, I would hear it unlock again!! Naturally alarmed, I looked around and there were two guys sitting in a car next to the store. They were obviously watching me intently, and there was no doubt they were somehow involved in this very weird situation. I quickly chucked the errand I was on, jumped in my car and sped away. I went straight to the police station, told them what had happened, and found out I was part of a new, and very successful, scheme being used to gain entry into cars.

Two weeks later, my friend's son had a similar happening....While travelling, my friend's son stopped at a roadside rest to use the bathroom. When he came out to his car less than 4-5 minutes later, someone had gotten into his car and stolen his mobile phone, laptop computer, satnav, briefcase......you name it. He called the police and since there were no signs of his car being broken into, the police told him he had been a victim of the latest robbery tactic? There is a device that robbers are using now to clone your security code when you lock your doors on your car using your remote locking device. They sit a distance away and watch for their next victim. They know you are going inside of the store, restaurant or bathroom and that they now have a few minutes to steal and run. The police officer said to manually lock your car with the key -- that way if there is someone sitting in a parking lot watching for their next victim, it will not be you. When you lock up with the key upon exiting, it does not send the security code, but if you walk away and use the remote button, it sends the code through the airwaves where it can be instantly stolen.

This is very real.

Be wisely aware of what you have just read and please pass this note on. Look how many times we all lock our doors with our remote just to be sure we remember to lock them -- and bingo, someone has our code...and whatever was in our car.

Joe and Sheryl arrived on the Thursday with the Outback with trailer and pop up tent. The rest of the group consisting of Peter and Ben and their Turbo Diesel Forester, Dave in his Brumby, Mary in her Forster XT, Rick and his family in their Outback towing their camper trailer, Phil and his two kids in their Tribecca and trailer and Rob, Deb, TJ and Ondre in his L Series all met at the Caltex in Plainlands, During the convoy, it was found that the radio that Dave lent Peter and Ben was dead even though it was said to have been working. They then made convoy till the top of Toowoomba where Peter and Ben stopped for fuel. The rest of the convoy continued on route to the woolshed although the traffic was slow they made it in good time. After their detour, Peter and Ben eventually made it in spite of being led astray by Google Maps on Ben’s iPhone.

After setting up, the rest of the afternoon was pretty relaxed around the camp site although being interrupted by some people fishing on the river who’s fishing line had snapped with the fish and fishing float still attached. Joe came to their rescue fishing both the float and a decent sized carp by using a lure to hook the float and line. Rob then used the ‘Twigmobile’ (L Series) to pull a twigish bit of firewood to the campsite. That night all except Rick and his family went to the woolshed for a dinner of fish and chips. The kids after dinner had a special treat of going wildlife hunting or watching the animated movie Hop. The rest of the group went down and spent the night talking around the campfire and discussing plans for the next day.

On the Saturday morning we had thought the cavalry had arrived but unfortunately it turned out to only be Shane arriving in his Outback. Before Shane’s arrival, Joe then closely followed by Ben awoke early to try some fishing but weren’t rewarded with any catches and only got nibbles due to the moon the night before. The gang in the morning went up for the Saturday morning pancake breakfast before heading back down to the campsite to discuss plans for the day. The crew decided on a day trip to Dalby and out to the dam for lunch. On the way to Dalby Peter, Ben and Dave hatched a plan to buy a Birthday Cake for Cheryl’s Birthday. First stop during the trip was Dalby to the town centre where Peter and Ben went to look for camp chairs and Joe hunted for a steering arm boot for his Outback.

After the short stop in Dalby the convoy made it’s way out to the dam for lunch. During lunch Phil told his son Liam not to get wet in the dam but in true spirit, Liam used sneaky moves to edge his way in further and further in until he was soaking wet. After lunch the group made the trip back to the Wool Shed with Peter and Ben ducking off to find antihistamines. The rest of the convoy tried a new route to cut off going through Dalby. The new route was slightly longer and absolutely rubbish except for the view. The road had roadwork, pot holes and the convoy had to dodge cars coming the other way. However Peter and Ben made good time and made it back to the campsite at the same time as the convoy. Rob started some tomfoolery by creating a three car roundabout at the campsite. The rest of the afternoon passed by uneventfully with the group relaxing and Liam continued to fish in the creek.

That night everyone made dinner and sat around the campfire where Rick did a raffle that was obviously rigged as Mary and Shane were drawn out for the same prize on three occasions. Peter won the ‘boobie’ prize which was a pink blow up bunny. After the raffle, Rick read out and collected the fines. For the first time Phil got a fine -- not one but three different times. Ben picked up a fine for ‘D’ plates. After the fines the cake was brought out and the whole group sang Happy Birthday to a very surprised Cheryl. The cake was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Later on that night the group played card games around the fire and discussed plans to go to the Oakey Army Air Museum the next day.

The Sunday morning there was a few nerves around the campsite as the BOM website predicted a rain band closely followed by an afternoon storm. This didn’t worry most of the club as the morning continued the car line up photo was taken then followed by a trip to the Army Air Museum which all partook in except for Phil who was feverishly preparing for the bad weather predicted. Liam tagged along with Peter and Ben in the mighty diesel Forester. The trip to the museum through Oakey was easy going. At the museum most of it was the same as the last time the club was there except the upstairs observation deck was closed. Liam thoroughly enjoyed the museum and was able to remember some outstanding stories that the museum had to share.

Sadly in the afternoon the weather took a turn for the worse with some Moderate to Heavy rain setting in with a storm also hitting the campsite. Peter, Ben, Joe, Cheryl, Phil, Liam and Matilda all packed up during the rain due to being close to the creek and the weather forecast. They all made convoy back to Rusty’s fuel station just past Plainland before heading their own way home. Rick and his family stayed along with Mary, Shane, Rob, TJ, Deb and little Ondre.

Hi, my name is “Little Red Wagon” an “L” Series and the latest purchase by Rob and Deb for their Subaru

entourage.

Sunday morning we woke to some rain and after the trip to the airfield with the forecast for more rain to

come, discussions were being held around the camp whether we stay or whether we leave because of the

weather (could you fit anymore weather/whether in there Red, Ed). People were divided on what to do, so

some decided to pack up in the rain and go while others decided to stay.

The stayers were Shane and Mary’s camp, Rick and Lisa’s camp and Rob and Deb’s camp. The rain was

a bit off and on as we eagerly watched the weather radar, missing some heavy rain while copping others.

It had come to the attention of some campers that Rob was itching to do some 4wding and throw some

mud on me. Rob decided to dig a trench behind the tents of his camp for drainage. As he reached for the

shovel, out come the keys and I realized who was really going to be doing the digging. I drove up and down

behind the tents to form the trenches. It was one thing for me to dig the trench but a completely new one to

try and get out of it. I thought Rob was going to abandoned me in the trenches forever and I wasn’t having

that happen. I swerved from side to side, back and forth with mud going everywhere, Rob was reveling in

this. With a final last ditch (no pun intended, (sure Red, Ed)) effort I drove out with a little push from others.

The rain started to really come down now and it was time to do some weather protection. Rob and Deb

lowered the gazebo, drove me around to the windward hence rainy side to act as protection (Red is my

hero, Ed), Rick loaned us a tarp to tie around the gazebo and we sat around half wet to weather out the

weather.

After the visit from the Jondaryan foreman to check the river level, Rob picked a stick rising out of the river

to act as a levy watch, stating that if it goes under we have about 4 hours to pack up and leave.

With everything wet including the timber to burn, Rob and Deb decided to pack me up with dinner and

family and head to the Damper hut to cook a camp oven stew and damper, dry out and warm up. Shane,

Mary, Rick, Lisa and kids stayed back at camp.

After we came back to camp, all was very quiet and lights were off. Rob and Ken were determined to have

a fire and with all their experience combined from cubs and cadets, they succeeded albeit a little fire…. a

little late. The river maintained a constant level for the remainder of the evening.

Next morning after breakfast Rob checked the river and all was good albeit flowing a little more. Satisfied,

Rob went to visit the neighbours with cup of mocha in hand. Meanwhile back at the camp site, Ondre, TJ

and Joel’s son wanted his independence from his mother’s arms and wanted down. TJ gave up and Ondre

reveled in the mud eventually blending in with the scenery.

Next thing Deb calls out to Rob and says “isn’t that your stick floating down the river”. The river was on the

rise, it was time to pack up. It hadn’t rained all morning and gave everything time to dry out.

I was definitely in a game of Tetris as Rob and Deb packed up all our gear and fitted it in me, much to the

entertainment value to Shane, Mary, Rick and Lisa, who had finished packing up.

Overall, another great weekend away with the Suba Club.
