MEETING DATE — Thursday, May 12, 2015 Meeting Starts at - 6:30 PM

I hope you attended our April meeting. Our speaker, Ami Simms was soentertaining and funny. This month we have Wendy Mathson! Wendy will bespeaking at our general meeting on May 12th and will be teaching her Stormat Sea technique on Friday, May 13th. Her quilts are amazing, so don’t missthis opportunity to hear and work with her. If you are interested in takingWendy’s class, you can email Johanne Gibson at [email protected] and sign up.

May’s general meeting will be our last one before the Quilt Show on June 4th

and 5th. We still have volunteer spots to fill for both days. We certainly needevery member to participate by volunteering one or two hours at the show.Beach Cities hosts one of the best quilt guild shows around and I am so excitedthat is it almost here.

Margaret Gordon and her Nominating Committee are busy finding members tovolunteer for positions on the guild board. Our guild is so much stronger whenwe all contribute, of course, and there are many opportunities to help. Pleaselook for Margaret’s article in this newsletter and let her know you are willingto be a member of the team!

Parliamentarian2016-17 BCQG BoardSince it’s too early to grovel or to guilt anyone into volunteering to be on the BCQG 2016-17 Board, you know that group of quilters who makes it possible for us to have the wonderful general meetingsand workshops and friendship groups and quilts shows, I thought I would just run down some of theopportunities:

Executive Board:Facilities – Don’t let the title intimidate you. In the words of Mary Arntz, one of this year’s co-chairsthe job can be summarized as: Wendy Price, the co-chair, sends out an email to the board eachmonth showing the floor plan and asking if anyone needs something different.  She then submits theplan to the Murray Center (by email).  Mary checks with the programs chair to see what the speakerneeds in the way of quilt racks and tables on the stage.  Mary keeps 4 quilt racks at her house.  Thissaves her from going to the storage each month.  On the day of guild meeting Mary goes to theMurray Center at about 4 – 4:30 to set up the needed quilt racks and check that the room is ready. Then she meets friends for dinner and comes back after 6.  The job is very easy; the Murray Centeris wonderfully helpful and cooperative, should be easy for a newbie.Parliamentarian- 2016-17 is the easy term since the bi-annual By-Law review was just completed. The position ensures that the voting requirements are met for voting on the 2016-17 board. (A photoID is not required.)

Standing Committees:Door Prizes – if you would like a reason to go to the quilt stores, then this is the perfect job. One ofthe co-chairs would address and stamp the Thank You notes as her way to participate.Library- Gives you first grab at the new books. Perfect position for a team. You decide how manybooks to bring.Friendship Circles – Great position for one or two, especially if your favorite song “Matchmaker”from Fiddler on the Roof. You can help fellow quilters, especially those new to the guild, find thefriendship group to join.Welcoming – If you have a friendly smile, you are perfect for this position. Great job for two!Southern California Council of Quilt Guilds – You attend four meetings over the course of the yearand bring back information that keeps the guild running smoothly.Ways and Means (the Rummage Sale) needs a Chairperson. You already have a team with CandyCrain collecting donations and Nancy Valk assisting

If you want to Co-Chair check out:Hospitality with Jan JohnsonMonthly Mini with Johanne GibsonPlease feel free to contact me or other members of the nominating committee – Debra Wallace,Michelle Naas, Pattie Sexton, Jan Johnson and Sandy Corbin. (Contact info is in the MembershipRoster)
