    Level 10 Maddie BrunetteGoes to Nationals!

    Please help us congratulate Madison Brunette, our only Level 10gymnast at SGA, for her wonderful showing at her first Level 10 NationalChampionship Meet.

    Twelve-year-old Madison has accomplished a great deal in a shortamount of time. She began her training at SGA in our Rec Op programand went from Rec Op to becoming a National qualifying gymnast in just3 short years. This year was her first year competing at Level 10, and notonly did she qualify to Nationals, she was the only gymnast in the JuniorA division to qualify from our region, Region 2.Madison is a very talented and dedicated gymnast. George Kostadinov isher coach at the Glade Training Facility. He has been her coach sinceMaddie joined the Competitive Program. George recently said of hersuccess: "Maddie is proof that any child participating in one of our SGA

    programs who works very hard and is dedicated can achieve greatsuccess at any level."Level 10 Nationals were held in Minneapolis, MN, this year, hosted byThe Twin City Twisters on May 10-12. Madison did an incredible job andscored 36.0 AA taking 37th place out of 57 girls in her Junior A division.Her standout events were Vault, scoring 9.35, and Bars, scoring 9.075.Maddie competed all 4 events and scored 8.85 on Beam and 8.725 onFloor.

    So again, Congratulations to Madison for a great competition season.Keep up the good work!

    Girls' Team State and Regionals Round-Upby Natali Kostadinova

    The Level 4 Girls' team ended their season with the State ChampionshipMeet hosted by Auburn Gymnastics Academy. Three SGA girls made it tothe Central Sectional Team and they competed against the SouthSection, North Section and the East Section. All of Washington State isdivided into 4 sections and each section took the top 20 girls with the

    highest AA scores to make each sectional Team. So congratulations toAda Reece, Kendall Torres, and Mackenzie Kim: Great job, girls!The state meet was divided into 3 divisions: Gold, Silver and Bronze.Each athlete was ranked into one of these divisions based on her AAscore at the Sectional Meet earlier this season. Congratulations go toLucy Chung, Sophia Goodman, Mackenzie Kim, Keilee Okumoto, AriaSowers, Annie Hatzenbeler, Abby Pierce, Ada Reece and Kendall Torreswho all qualified for the Gold Division!Chloe Lipitz and Lanae Coffee qualified in the Silver Division - way to go,

    girls! And Tara Gamsky competed in the Bronze Division - good job!

    Congratulations to all the Level 4s for an incredible season!

    Our Levels 5 & 6 Girls' Teams also wrapped up their competition lastweekend in Spokane, WA, with the 2013 State Championship Meethosted by Dynamic Gymnastics. In the Youth AYouth A division Abbey Amemiya

    did an awesome job AA, Gracyn Brunnette received 2nd place Vault,Nora Leonard also did very well. Hannah Ota won the Child CChi ld C agedivision - congratulations! Carli Richards, Cate Jescke, and MaeVanderslice also did well in that division. Lucy Kaufer who was our topscorer in the Junior AJunior A division and Molly Deal was likewise in the JuniorJuniorBB division. Danielle Lobo, Mariana Forehand, and Caroline Casey all didwell in the Youth CYouth C age division!

    Rounding out our compulsory girls, Level 6 Team girls wrapped up theircompetition season last weekend at the State Championship Meet inSpokane. Devin O'Leary was our top scorer in the Senior DSenior D division.Sadie Cook was likewise in the Junior BJunior B age division. In our Junior DJunior Ddivision, Elizabeth Allen, Lauren Rickert and Sydney Pytte got the highestSGA scores. And in our Senior ASenior A division, Masami O' Malley and AnuDomingo did great!

    The SGA Girl's Optional Teams, Levels 7-10, did a great job at the 2013Regionals Meet hosted by Metropolitan Gymnastics. Starting with theLevel 7 girls: Anna Roberts took home 4th place AA, and EliseCummings also did very well. Our Level 8 girls, Olivia Ledesma, MargaretChi, and Kim Kramers did an awesome job. Our Level 8 WashingtonState Team took 1st place Team! Go Level 8! And Level 10 MadisonBrunette is your Regional All Around Champion. Great Job Girls!

    As the New Year rang in and the Holiday Season came to a close lastJanuary, we at Columbia City SGA realized that the spirit giving to ourlocal Rainier Valley Food BankRainier Valley Food Bank was important not just through theholidays, but year-round for food-insecure families and individuals. That'swhy we initiated $2 Tuesdays.

    Food Bank Donation Bin Awaiting your Donations - Fill 'er up!

    Our popular Indoor Playground costs $6 per child, or just $4 with a pre-

    paid punch card, but each week on Tuesdays, each child may enter for a$2 donation to the Rainier Valley Food Bank, paid by cash or check, andone canned or boxed food item. All the money and food donations go tothe Rainier Valley Food Bank.

    As of this writing, in just 4 months, we've raised $711 and donatedpounds and pounds of canned and boxed food items!

    Here are some examples of food to donate:

    Canned vegetables and fruits, or meats such as chicken, tuna or salmon;Hearty meat soups and stews;Dried or canned beans;Peanut butter;Rice and pasta;Pancake and baking mixes;Oatmeal;Granola and energy bars;Dried fruits;Ensure and other nutritional supplement drinks;

    And especially important year round: infant formula and diapers of allsizes.The Rainier Valley Food Bank provides food assistance to low-incomeresidents in southeast Seattle, with a focus on seniors, families,individuals with disabilities, and the homeless. No one who meets ourbroad criteria for assistance is turned away from the food bank. Ourmission is to provide healthy food to our hungry neighbors.

    SGA Columbia City put on aspectacularly fun-filledspring break camp, hostingover 70 kids during ourweek off from classes.SGA welcomed first-timegymnasts, and long-timefamiliar faces frompreschool age beginnersthrough intermediate skilllevels. Gymnasts enjoyedhours of directed- and free-play in our first-class facility.They bounced on ourtrampolines and romped inthe bouncy house, learned

    new skills and perfected oldones. The kids participatedin games for the whole untilthey completely ran out ofenergy.When it was time for a rest,staff and gymnasts retiredto the upstairs party roomwhere they found their inner

    artist, engineer, or designer,through fun crafts thatchanged daily. Everyone hadan awesome time and kidsheaded home happy andtired at the end of each day.Here is a snapshot of thevery first rocket ever built inan SGA Gym. Standing over25ft tall, including a launchpad and stabilizers, we havefuture aerospace engineersin the making!
