If you are travelling or need accommodation for

the 80th dinner, our Club Sponsor Prince of Wales

Hotel are offering great specials. A standard

room is $80 per night (includes a double and sin-

gle bed with ensuite). The rooms have been up-

dated so you will have a wonderful relaxing stay.

Contact the POW Hotel to book.

A word from our President The lead up to a party can be very stressful for

any organizer. But the hard work and dedica-

tion is what makes for a wonderful celebration.

Emma Harris & Nat Fahey are working hard in

the background to make sure you have a fabu-

lous 80th anniversary night. To assist them make

sure you RSVP as soon as possible with your ta-

bles. Details are on page 1.

Complimenting this, Jo Traynor, Helen Wells &

Paul Ancher are fastidiously putting together the

Derwent memorabilia book and I am sure you

will be as excited as I am in anticipation of its

release.

Again these things take hard work, and every-

one is busy. If you are in anyway able to help

out with anything, whether it is supporting a

coach, cooking a BBQ or running a fundraiser

please do not hesitate to contact a committee

member.

On a final note, I cannot leave you without mak-

ing special note of the Womens Veterans. After

3 years in the veteran wilderness, Derwent Vets

beat OHA 5 –1 on the 20th May and followed

it up with a 1-0 win against University. It was an

extra-special achievement considering that the

players have only been together for 8 weeks. I

am a little biased, but go girls!

JUNIORCORNER

will notify clubs of turf closure and junior coordina-

tors/coaches will contact you. If the turf is not flooded

and only raining, games will go ahead. Always turn

up to games unless notified by junior coordinators/

coaches. If rain becomes heavy the Groundsman

makes a decision at the start time whether to cancel

games if it is dangerous. This is normally not an issue

for turf 1 & 2 as they dry out quickly.

SUBS

Early Bird—19th June 2015 (money will be deducted

if paid by then)

All subs need to be paid by 19th July 2014

If you need to set up a payment arrangement contact

John Harris—[email protected]

Wet Weather Procedures The recent rain has prompted the junior coordina-

tors to remind the members of the procedure for

training and game cancellation in the event of wet

weather. Hockey is a winter sport and games are

not cancelled due to rain. However we do not want

kids training in the rain.

Training—Unfortunately Turf 3 is prone to flooding

after continuous rain. The Groundsman at the

Hockey Centre will inspect turf after 3pm as it usu-

ally takes 1– 2 hours to dry out after heavy rain. If

turf is flooded it is usually closed by Hockey Tas

and Clubs are notified. The Junior Coordinators/

coaches will notify everyone to let them know that

training is cancelled. If the turf is okay, then it is a

Club decision if we train, and the junior coordina-

tors usually consult with the coaches around 4ish . If

rain persists we will cancel training and notify eve-

ryone. If you don’t hear from the coordinators and/

or coaches the training will go ahead as scheduled

and it is the parents decision as to whether you

send them along.

Games—All games on Turf 3 follow the same pro-

cedure as training. IF turf is flooded Groundsman
