Dear Friends,

I know you join with me in praying for those severely im-

pacted by last week's violent storms. Many of us have family

and friends who lost everything. And whether we know them

or not, we all feel the heartbreak of those families who lost

loved ones. We particularly pray that the risen Christ, who

proclaims the victory of life over death, will be a comfort for

them in the days ahead.

Second to prayer, an essential, immediate need is for finan-

cial assistance to aid in the recovery process. A safe and se-

cure way to give is through the United Methodist Committee

on Relief. This organization is already on the ground in the

affected areas. 100% of your donations to UMCOR go direct-

ly to those in need; the administrative costs are covered in

other ways. If you would like to donate, you can make your

check to St. Luke's, and put Tornado Relief in the memo line.

You can mail it to the church office or place it in the offering

plate on Sunday.

Don’t forget, that June 2nd

-5th

, we will join with our other

neighborhood churches to host a VBS for children ages birth

to fifth grade. We need volunteers to help with the evening

sessions, so if you’re willing, please contact the church or our

children’s director, Leah Batson ([email protected].

Also, on Thursday, June 5th

HONORING OUR MOTHERS This Sunday, May 11th, is Mother’s Day. Sally Lewis and

Mary Jane Oglesby continue their family tradition of presenting a carnation to eve-ryone attending our worship service in

honor or memory of “their own” mother. When you pick up your flower, you will notice there are two colors, red and white. Choose white in memory of your mother if she is deceased, or red in honor of your mother if she is living.

HONDURAS MISSION DONATIONS REMINDER Even if you are unable to go to Honduras, you can be a partner in this mission by donating items needed by our Honduran brothers and sisters. This year we are request-ing donations of new and gently used linens, new tooth-brushes and new tubes of toothpaste for the mission’s housing ministry. They need: Sheets for double beds Sheets for twin beds Large bath towels Hand towels Kitchen towels Toothpaste Toothbrushes You may drop off your donations at the church through Sunday, May 25.
