FIRST COMMUNION

First Communion is one of the most beautiful moments of Parish life. This weekend, May 4th and 5th,

there are over thirty children who received Holy Communion for the very first time.

Every year, when I preside over the Mass of First Communion, I remember with joy the day of my

own First Communion. I am so grateful to my parents and my catechists for the way that they pre-

pared me for such an important day. I was six years old and so little. My conscience was so frag-

ile. Twenty four years later, when I was ordained a priest on June 25th 2005 and celebrated my

First Mass in Rome, I asked for the grace to have the same simplicity of heart that I had on the day

of my First Communion in order to be a good server of the Holy Eucharist.

Looking at the children, we learn a lot about what it means to receive Jesus truly present in the

consecrated host. They really believe that Jesus is present in the Blessed Sacrament and that when

they receive communion, they encounter Christ. The witness that they bear always renews my faith

and helps to conquer the insensibility caused by routine. We need to always approach the Holy Eu-

charist with the eyes and hearts of children, with the same astonishment that they have before Je-

sus. We should always receive the Holy Eucharist in a state of Grace.

We congratulate the children who received their First Communion and we also congratulate their

families! Come back with your parents every Sunday and Holy days! Jesus waits for you.

We pray that the grace of the first encounter with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will produce

abundant fruit in their lives.

Your pastor Fr. Ettore Ferrario, F.S.C.B

INTO THE DEEP… “Go into deep water, and let down your nets for a catch.” (Luke 5:4)...

GAUDETE ET EXSULTATE - REJOICE AND BE GLAD (Mt 5:12):

This is the title of the latest apostolic exhortation of Pope Francis.

This is a beautiful document, which in light of the tradition of the

Church, illumines for us the path to holiness. As Pope Francis states in

the beginning of his exhortation: “My modest goal is to re-propose

the call to holiness in a practical way for our own time, with all its

risks, challenges and opportunities. For the Lord has chosen each

one of us “to be holy and blameless before him in love (Eph. 1:4).”

We encourage you to read and meditate this text of our Pope as a

great opportunity to go into the deep of our universal call to holi-

ness. You can find the exhortation on the Vatican website at: http://

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE

As we are now two-thirds of the way through our capital campaign, let us Rejoice and Give Thanks that we have been able to build and maintain this beautiful and sacred space to worship and build community. Thank you to all whom have pledged and contributed.

The progress on the campaign thus far has been tremen-dous:

• In the last four years, we have paid off more than $2,500,000 on the principal of our mortgage

• We maintain a good fixed interest rate with Premier Bank on the remaining balance

• Over 48% of our pledges have been fulfilled

However, building from this success, we still have a great deal more to accomplish:

• We have a remaining mortgage balance of $2,500,000

• We continue to pay over $275 per day in interest on that balance

• Our progress in pledge payments has slowed in the last two years.

To me, the most striking number is that daily interest. What could we be doing for our community with an extra

$275 a day? How could our parish mission be better fulfilled with an additional $8,500 a month? What more could we be doing to continue the saving work of Jesus Christ without that additional cost of OVER $100,000 PER YEAR IN INTEREST?

With less than two years remaining in the campaign, we need to press forward to make that difference. 280 families have outstanding pledges of over $618,000; if you’re one of those families, please continue to work towards fulfilling your pledge. If you have fulfilled your initial commitment, are you perhaps at a place now to consider giving more?

We continue to make good progress, but we need to go Go Into the Deep to working towards finishing this debt. Then, when our mortgage is paid off, we will have a whole new reason to Rejoice and Give Thanks. -Tricia Hengemuhle, Business Administrator
