FROM THE PASTOR

Hey now,

Hey now,

In just two weeks we, and the church throughout the world, will celebrate Pentecost. It is a beautiful

celebration as we await the outpouring of God’s Spirit upon us anew. We remember how that Spirit

bestowed the ability for people from throughout the world to hear the proclamation of the apostles in their

own language. The Spirit of God is a gift that is given to unite us even though we are all different and have

different gifts. The Holy Spirit bridges borders and boundaries that were created by humanity through the

eons of humanity to bring us together as one again as God created us.

In that spirit of unity we are asking everyone to partake in our parish’s Pentecost festivities. As you have

heard we are having an International St. Jerome Food Fest where people can try the cuisine from various

regions and countries throughout the world. All one has to do is look around the community at our liturgies

and we can see that we are multi-cultural. There are people from all the Americas, (South, Central and

North), and from various countries in Africa. One can see sisters and brothers from India, the Philippines,

Vietnam, China, Japan and other countries on the Asian Continent. As well we know that those we sit next

to have their ancestry in the various countries of Europe such as Poland, Germany, and France among the

many others. St. Jerome almost has representatives from every continent in the world (yes we know that

Antarctica is not well represented but we are hoping to ship in some penguins so that we exclude no one

J).

Thus, while everyone is invited I would like to invite once again for people to consider making a dish that is

representative of your ancestry and share with the community. You don’t have to make ‘frijoles de la olla’

to feed 2,000 people nor are we expecting you to make thousands of papusas, pierogi or latke. We are

hoping that people can make enough for people to have a sampling not a full meal, so if you love to bake

or cook (and eat) a dish that reminds you of home, please consider sharing your time and delicacy with

others so we can learn more about your home as well and truly become one family in Christ.

Also, at all of the masses we will have various people from the community come forward to proclaim our

Prayers of the Faithful in their native language. We may not be able to understand what they are saying

(although we will be able to read the translation projected in front of us); however, I just love hearing the

rhythm and sing song quality that other languages have. One thing that we will know for sure is that in that

language they are raising a prayer to the God and Father of us all. On that day we are also inviting those

who may have ethnic dress that may be commonplace in their region to wear it for all to see. The various

fabrics and colors will enlighten our sense of sight to the beauty of created things that are the work of the

hands of our sisters and brothers from around the world. For those that may not have such vesture please

wear something red to show that the fire of the Holy Spirit burns in us and brings us together as one.

Lastly, for children of all ages (but especially for the younger ones of God) we will have a water day to help

you cool down and enjoy playing with others. There will be bouncy houses, water, games, water, fun, and

did I mention water. Why so much water? Water is life for the human race and most creatures on the Earth

and as the temperatures continue to increase it is a fun way to cool down and laugh and play with others.

Also, in some small way it can remind us that in the waters of baptism we are all united to Christ in his death

and resurrection, and by being united to Christ we are united to all people through Christ. Please consider

coming out for this event when we can come together as community. We do so every Sunday in our

liturgy, but our call as Christians is to take that message of love and unity outside the doors of our church

and bring it to the ends of the earth.

In the Peace of the Risen Christ,

Fr. Gary

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

Rooted from the very beginning of Church tradition, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is the path for welcoming new inquirers into our community of believers. If you, or someone close to you,

are considering becoming a member of the Catholic community here at St Jerome, then please accept our invitation to join with us on a journey of faith. We also welcome active Catholics who are interested in celebrating the sacraments of confirmation and first communion, as well as those who

are baptized in another Christian tradition.

We encourage those already members of the community to consider being a part of the RCIA team

where by sharing your faith you will receive the gift that comes by helping others grow in theirs.

Finally, we ask you to consider being sponsors, walking with and supporting the inquirers as they grow. Please welcome them warmly into our community. For further information, contact Diane Orban at
