The County Annual meeting that was scheduled for June 13 has been postponed. A new date has not

been decided on. It will be discussed at the July council meeting when more information regarding the

status of our county, state, and nation is available.

We are looking to fill the position of County President. I am attaching the nomination form to this

email. Please, please, please…if you or someone in your club is interested (or you think they would be a

good leader for the organization) encourage them to fill out the form!

A proposed budget has been developed. It will be presented at the July council meeting.

The scholarship committee has met, and the winner of the scholarship will be announced soon.

Hello Ladies,

This is going to be lengthy, but I urge you to read all of it as it contains

important information!

I hope you each are safe and well at home taking care of yourselves and your

family! I have been working remotely since mid March. Working from home

with an adorable toddler is not for the faint of heart! She’s got so much

personality, ha! Starting the first of May, I am trying to ease back into

working in the office 1 or 2 days a week. At this time all in person meetings

are cancelled through May 31st. We will have more information about

programming in the summer months as more information becomes available

from upper administration. They’ve done a wonderful job keeping us all

informed!

As many of you know, through this time, the Extension Office has remained open

and fully operational to answer questions and develop creative programming

that families can take home! I will soon have a green cleaning kit that you can

reserve through a link on our Facebook page and pick up at the back door! I

have also partnered with the local Early Childhood Council to provide kits and

books to families with young children. This has been a really fun project to put together! So, although our

normal programming has come to a halt, Extension

Offices across the state are adapting and finding new ways to reach their people!

KEHA is working with UK Children’s Hospital to provide cloth face masks for their staff. We have exceeded

the initial goal but are still taking masks. If you are interested in sewing masks for this project, please

reach out to me and I will get you the information needed. There is a specific pattern to follow along with

a few other guidelines.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions, concerns, or ideas. I am going to try to improve

my communication with all of you during the month of May. March and April were a real struggle for me

personally and professionally and I apologize I did not reach out to check in with each of you sooner!

Below are some key points from the Council meeting that was held virtually on May 4th.

The KEHA meeting has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled for this year. Refunds will be issued

beginning next week.

County Awards: Because the Annual Meeting is postponed, you have some extra time to get county

awards and nominations in. Please submit your club’s county awards (reading, perfect attendance, years

of service, and new member) at the July Council meeting (or before would be great too!). Along with

club reports, personal reports are due such as the volunteer service unit log and homemaker of the year

nomination forms in addition to nomination for county president forms. Homemaker of the year and the

officer nomination form are enclosed.

Program of Work Reports: All club presidents and chairmen should have a copy of the 19-20 program of

work report forms. If you need a copy they can be found at http://keha.ca.uky.edu/content/impacts.

These will also need to be turned in at the July council meeting.

KEHA Spirit Week: KEHA has come up with this idea to bring Homemakers together while we are apart.

May 18-22 you will find daily prompts promoting KEHA for you to participate in. We will do this via our

public GC Homemaker Facebook page and the posts will be shared on the GC Extension Facebook page.

You can find more information in the enclosed flier.

Please see the minutes from the council meeting for additional information!

Thanks, Natalie

Feed your brain. A heart-healthy diet is also a brain-healthy diet. It includes complex carbohydrates such as

brown rice, oatmeal, lentils, whole grains, and beans. Bright vegetables are full of antioxidants. Omega-3

fatty acids can be found in salmon, tuna, halibut, and trout in addition to flaxseed and olive oil. Healthy nuts,

seeds, and fruits also give a boost to the brain.

Be social. Meaningful social connections boost both the soul and the brain.

Exercise. Physical activity not only decreases the odds of developing heart disease, diabetes, and stroke, but

it can also help lower or maintain weight, prevent depression, and protect memory and thinking skills.

It is not uncommon for people over 40 to experience some memory loss. You forget where you put your keys,

you cannot recall a name or date, etc. Unless such forgetfulness begins to interrupt everyday activities, you are

likely okay.

But you should think about what might be causing some lapses in memory. Are you getting enough sleep? Are

you managing your stress? Are you reacting to negative toxins in the environment or experiencing hormonal

changes?

It is also important to understand that memories are facilitated by a chemical in the brain called

neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters transfer information from one neuron to another and this transfer can

be affected by disease, lifestyle, genes, and age. To help boost your brain, it is important to:

If you feel that you are having a hard time learning new things or doing things you have always done, or you see

that your memory is getting progressively worse, make an appointment to see a health-care professional.
