ARMED FORCES

DAYWar, deception and art come together in this astonishing true story of American G.I.s who tricked the enemy with rubber tanks, sound

effects and carefully crafted illusions during WWII.

Tuesday, May 14 @ 7PM & Saturday, May 18 @ Noon

American heiress Anne Morgan poured both her own fortune and the fruits of intense fundraising into rebuilding Picardy, a region in northern France which had been devastated by the Great War.

Saturday, May 18 @ 1PM

ESCAPE IN THE PACIFIC: 1943On April 4, 1943, 10 American prisoners of war escaped from the notorious Davao Penal Colony on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.

They had been incarcerated for a year since the fall of the islands to the Japanese invaders. Led by Lieutenant Colonel William Dyess and assisted by two Filipino convicts, the group

took two months to plan their flight, the only successful group escape from a Japanese POW

camp during the entire war.

Saturday, May 18 @ 2PM

Saturday, May 18 @ 3PMJoin an American couple's courageous

mission in 1939 to help refugees escape Nazi-occupied Europe. Over the course of

two years, the pair risked their lives so that hundreds could live in freedom.

Saturday, May 18 @ 4:30PM

The little-known story of a unit of African American soldiers from Illinois, largely from Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood, who fought in combat for the United States under the French during World War I. They fought on two fronts: the war against the Germans and the war against racism and inequality.

Sunday, May 26 @ 7 & 8:30PM

Join hosts Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise for the 30th anniversary live broadcast of

America’s national night of remembrance from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, featuring the National Symphony Orchestra under the

direction of Jack Everly.

A SALUTE TO OUR ARMED FORCES

Monday, May 27 @ 9PMGoing to War brings terror, pain and grief,

but also exhilaration and a sense of purpose. Authors Karl Marlantes and Sebastian Junger

help make sense of this paradox, while military veterans reveal the truths of combat

with unflinching candor.
