University of Pittsburgh Student Chapter Update This past semester University of Pittsburgh student ASCP had a full schedule of events and speakers. The semester started with MLK day at Longwood at Oakmont Retirement Community to hold a health fair. ASCP members also had the opportunity to shadow Dr. Jennifer Pruskowski, PharmD, BCPS, CGP throughout February and March. Students went to Hillman Cancer Center to shadow a Palliative Care Clinical Pharmacy Specialist and learn more about Dr. Pruskowski’s duties and responsibilities. In March, ASCP members went to UPMC Heritage Place to play Jeopardy and bingo with the residents. We had a great time talking to residents and running a very competitive bingo game. Pitt ASCP had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Gina Ayers and Dr. Megan Carr, PGY2 residents at St. Margaret’s Community Hospital, as well as Dr. Heather Sakely, St. Margaret’s residency director. Students enjoyed hearing their experiences and how pharmacists are a crucial part in the care of seniors. Pitt ASCP also went to the southwestern PA ASCP dinner held at DeNunzio’s and enjoyed a delicious dinner with a talk on immunizations provided by Dr. Milito.

Students visited the Haven Nursing Home to play bingo three times and provided the residents with snacks and prizes. In order to make the prizes, student ASCP hosted a service event on campus to decorate flower pots and canvas bags to give to the residents. (see photo). The winners were so excited to care for their new basil plants! As a result of this continued outreach at the Haven Nursing Home, Duquesne’s ASCP chapter was

awarded Best Service Project at the annual APhA Student Organization Award Banquet. In addition to winning the award, Carla Daniel a PY1 student and ASCP member, was awarded Spotlight Leader for her efforts in helping with the Bingo events throughout the year. The Duquesne chapter was also able to participate in the PA ASCP regional educational dinner/event on immunizations and antimicrobial stewardship. Lastly, ASCP held elections for the upcoming year and members are very excited and looking forward to what may be accomplished in the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year!

Philadelphia College of Pharmacy Student Chapter Update At the University of the Sciences - Student Leadership Awards Brunch on May 2, 2018, the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy student ASCP chapter received the “Student

Organization of the Year” award. Criteria for this university- wide honor include demonstrating a commitment to excellence in fulfillment of its purposes and goals… PCP Student ASCP, led by President Lalitha Sukumar and a very active executive board, had a productive year which included educational and service events in the areas of Alzheimer’s Advocacy, Fall Prevention Awareness across all health care professions and student ASCP chapters, Vial of Life programs, networking with APhA peers for older adult healthy lifestyle education, student educational programs on Medicare Part D, collaboration with a Medical Director, post-graduation planning and more. The chapter advisor and Adjunct Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Laura Finn, BCGP, FASCP stated: “It has been exciting to see the growth of PCP ASCP. Recognizing the need for advanced planning and the range of opportunities for service, students began early, networked throughout the campus, city, state, and region. Most especially, geriatric patients experienced the benefits of more educated health care professionals and medication information to keep them safe while the students also had a lot of fun.”
