Senior Outing Set This year’s seniors Senior Outing will be to the Indiana Northern Dunes on Lake Michigan. Players and coaches will

plan to leave at 8:45 am on Friday, June 10. Workouts that morning will begin at 6:00 am as usual and, following our SAQ drills

ending at 7:30 am, players will be dismissed to shower and eat. Players should return no later than 8:45. We will load on mini-

busses to travel to the Dunes. There will be no cost to the players except for food money used at the Dunes for snacks and a

stop on the way home to eat. The Gridiron Club will provide a box lunch for us to eat when we arrive at the beach. Following

lunch we will climb dunes, talk about goals, plans, and encouragement for the season, and enjoy the beach. We will plan to

return by about 8 pm. Seniors need to communicate if they plan to go so we can make necessary preparations. We will have

sign-ups during our 1st two weeks of workouts. This should be a fun day that we hope all our seniors will want to take part in.

Again, players are encouraged to check the website for specific lifting, running, and OFD schedule. Freshmen are also limited to

12 days in helmets and shoulder pads but their scheduled padded days may differ from the varsity and JV players.

Players are reminded they must have the IHSAA physical and all FHS paperwork completed and turned into the

athletic office before they will be allowed to participate in lifting or drills. Physical forms can be downloaded and other

paperwork can be completed online by going to www.fisherstigersathletics.com .

Fishers Freedom Festival Parade – a Tiger FB Tradition Continues! The Fishers Tigers football team will participate in the Fishers Freedom Festival Parade on Sunday, June 26. This will

be the 10th consecutive year our football team has been a part of the festival parade. All available members will walk the

parade route with our Fishers Tiger Tunnel passing out candy and possibly other items to the crowd. Participating players will

wear their Fishers practice jersey and managers and coaches will wear Fishers football t-shirts. We’ll have plenty of water on

hand if the weather is hot. This has always been a fun celebration for our team as the town has always received us with great

enthusiasm. We hope you will be able to join us for this event. We’ll provide more details later in the summer.

We also need some parent volunteers to help with this event. Please contact Bob Kantner at [email protected] or

Giannine Cohoon at [email protected] if you would like to help. Coach Wimmer and Coach Wyss will be

discussing this with players at workouts and begin getting a count on how many plan to take part.

TigerOne Casino Night, Silent Auction, and Scholarships

Casino Night and Silent Auction - SAVE THE DATE!!! The inaugural TigerONE Casino Night and Silent Auction

fundraiser has been confirmed for Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the FORUM Conference Center. The Casino Night committee is

looking for Silent Auction items. If you can help or have access to items, contact Joe Eaton at the e-mail or number below. We

are very excited about this event. Last year was our first TigerOne Casino Night and everyone had great fun. Thousands of

dollars were raised which helped kick-start our weight room equipment purchases, helped various sports purchase some

needed items, and provided scholarships for graduating seniors. Be sure to buy your tickets for a fun night and a chance to

support all Fishers athletes and sports.

TigerONE Scholarships – 2016-2017 school year: All money raised by TigerONE will help fund numerous needs in our

athletic program and for scholarships. We are excited to announce that TigerONE will again be awarding two $500 scholarships

to one male and one female graduating student athlete this Spring. Application for this scholarship can be found on the new

athletic website at www.fisherstigersathletics.com under the TigerOne tab.

Thanks for your continued support of TigerONE. If you have any questions or comments, please let us know.

We will finalize the times but setup times will be at about noon. We will also need a group to tear down after the final concert on Saturday, July 16 at about 10 pm. Coach Wimmer and Coach Wyss will coordinate sign-ups for this event with our players. Parents who would like to help should contact our coordinator Amy Cole at [email protected], Bob Kantner at [email protected] or Giannine Cohoon at [email protected].

Bishop-Dullaghan Camp Info – Registration and Deposit Due ASAP As has become an important part of the process of becoming a champion here at Fishers HS, we are making preparations to attend the Bishop-Dullaghan football camps this summer. Varsity and Junior Varsity teams - made up of incoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors – will prepare to attend the B-D Team Camp where our players will not only focus on fundamental development, but our own coaches will install our base offense and defense and have the opportunity to work against other similar teams who will be at the camp. Last year we were able to work against Ben Davis, Columbus East, Crown Point, Whiteland, and Westfield and those teams are expected to return again this year.

We will send our Freshmen skill players (QBs, WRs, TEs, RBs, DBs, LBs) to a B-D Skills Camp where they will focus on the development of fundamentals. Our incoming freshmen linemen will attend the B-D “Down and Dirty” Linemen Camp which will also focus on the fundamentals of being an offensive and defensive lineman. Those camps are both held at Depauw University during the same week so all our freshmen players and coaches who are able to go will be able to attend together.

As we have done in the past, we will have scholarship money available from last year’s fundraising efforts for those who would like to take advantage of that. We will provide a $60 Scholarship to our sophomores, juniors, and seniors attending the Team Camp and a $40 Scholarship to incoming freshmen attending the Skills or Linmen Camp. Attendance at these camps is not mandatory, but we do believe they are highly beneficial to each individual player’s skill development and our team’s progress. Below are the camp dates we will be attending.

FHS Team Camp Dates Set The 2016 Fishers HS Football Team Camp (Grades 9-12) will take place Monday, July 18 – Thursday, July 21. This

camp is for all players in our HS program grades 9-12. There is no cost for this camp except for $20 required for the Fishers FB

Practice Shorts and Fishers FB Practice Jersey which are mandatory for the camp. These items obviously cost more than the

required $20, but we plan to make up the difference with the sale of our Tiger Value Card fundraiser. This camp will run from

4:30 – 7:30 pm daily (7:00 pm for incoming freshmen). This is a very important instructional opportunity for our players to

attend. We expect all players to make every effort to attend our team camp during July 18-21.

1-Day College Evaluation Camps

If you will be a junior or senior next year, want to continue playing football in college, and believe you are good

enough to earn a football scholarship, you need to attend 3 or 4 college 1-day evaluation camps. These camps are very

reasonably priced and are designed to evaluate players, not necessarily develop your skills, which is why we go to the Bishop-

Dullaghan Camps. To get interest in order to be recruited, coaches want to visually see players and watch them in a series of

controlled drills to help them evaluate an athlete’s abilities. Below are several 1-day evaluation camps. Some are for seniors

only. Some are for Juniors and Seniors. Some may take sophomores as well. Contact the university directly at the contact

information listed or see Coach Wimmer to make arrangements to attend any of these evaluation camps. Showcases indicate

that a number of lower division schools will be there as well so a player has opportunity to be seen by a number of schools.

NCAA Scholarship Requirements and Clearinghouse

The NCAA requires student-athletes to reach minimum GPA and SAT / ACT test score standards in order to receive an athletic scholarship. These standards are on a sliding scale for Division I scholarship eligibility. The NCAA currently requires a high school student-athlete to have attained at least at 2.3 GPA in 16 core courses. Not all courses count as part of your core course curriculum. Core courses include college prep courses in language, math, science, and social studies. Your guidance counselor or coach can help you determine your core course GPA. Minimum test score requirements are on a sliding scale based on the core course GPA. For example, with a core course GPA of 2.3, an SAT score of 900 (Reading & Math only) or an ACT score of 75 is required. With a core course GPA of 3.00, only 620 is required on the SAT or a score of 52 on the ACT. Some colleges have GPA and/or test score minimum standards which are higher than those required by the NCAA. The NCAA does not use the writing portion of the SAT to determine your score. Only the reading and math scores are used for NCAA eligibility.

Course grades cannot be upgraded by retaking a course during your senior year. There are also restrictions regarding what online courses will be accepted by the NCAA. Most will not count toward NCAA eligibility. Check with your guidance counselor.

We strongly recommend that all players considering going to college take the SAT and/or the ACT no later than the

fall of your junior year. You must meet SAT or ACT test minimums before you can take an official visit as a student-athlete recruit. You may take these tests as many times as you wish with the best scores counting. It would be a good idea for sophomores to take the PSAT test in the fall to help prepare for the SAT.

See your guidance counselor to register for these tests. You may also register for the ACT at www.act.org or for the SAT at www.collegboard.com. Late registration (with additional fees) are also available if you miss the registration deadline. Check with your guidance counselor.

Any student-athlete who hopes to earn an athletic scholarship at any NCAA Division I or Division II institution must apply to the NCAA Clearinghouse. These forms should be completed at the beginning of your senior year. See your guidance counselor to receive and complete these forms or you can do it online at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net .

10 THINGS EVERY FAMILY SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ACT & SAT 1. Neither the SAT nor the ACT is “easier” or “harder" than the other, but different types of students usually do MUCH

better on one than they do on the other. 2. Take both tests as early as possible, to find the right “FIT” and to give you time for tutoring and additional exams. 3. Choose the test you scored the highest on and then work to improve that score. 4. After you choose the “right” test, you must plan to take it multiple times. For football recruits you should have

multiple scores by October of your senior year. 5. Combining scores – You can combine a really high Math score on Test 1 and high Reading score on Test 2. 6. Generally speaking if you are:

a. Strong Math / Weak Reading = ACT b. Strong Reading / Weak Math = SAT

7. Scoring Differences a. ACT has no penalty for wrong answers, so don’t leave any questions blank. b. SAT has a ¼ point deduction for all wrong answers, so a “rule of thumb” is if you can narrow answers to a

50/50 choice – pick one. If you have no clue = skip it 8. Colleges will accept either the ACT or the SAT – They are more concerned with high scores! 9. ACT has a Science section, which really is more about using charts and graphs properly – SAT does not. 10. SAT has a stronger emphasis on vocabulary.

Fishers FB Alumni Club “Tiger Challenge” Golf Outing Set Scholarships and Outing Honoring Trent VanHoosen enters 4th year

The date for the 2016 Fishers Alumni Football Club “Tiger Challenge” Golf Outing will be Thursday, June 23, when we will return to River Glen Golf Club for this annual event. Other details will be forthcoming. Last year our 3rd Annual “Tiger Challenge” was a great success as we attracted about 75 golfers, provided a $1,000 renewable scholarship in memory of Trent Van Hoosen for a graduating senior and 2 former players, and over a 3-year period, raised an additional $10,000 to assist the athletic department in providing funds to purchase weight room equipment for the new 6,000 square foot weight room. This year’s Trent Van Hoosen Memorial Scholarship winner is Colton Thomas who has been a leader in the classroom and on the field, learning to deal with the unexpected death of his father Darren last year to become a valuable member of our program and earning the Most Valuable Special Teams Player Award this past season. Our #1 goal will be to provide $4,000 worth of renewable scholarships for Colton and the other 3 former scholarship winners to continue their education. After that goal is met, we hope to continue to build funds to support the football program and Fishers HS. This is the 10 year anniversary of our first FHS football team from 2006. At this year’s outing we hope to bring many of those players back, recognizing and honoring them at our post-outing dinner. If you know players or parents who were part of our first team in 2006, please pass along our intentions and have them send contact information to Coach Wimmer at [email protected]. Check out and “Like” our Facebook page for the latest on the June 23rd golf outing at https://www.facebook.com/Trent-Van-Hoosen-Memorial-Scholarship-Golf-Outing-A-FHS-FB-Alumni-Event-216059288732981/

Team Scrimmage vs Lake Central HS The Varsity and JV squads will travel to Lake Central HS for a Controlled Practice and Scrimmage in shoulder pads and

helmets on Wednesday, June 29. This is the 2nd year of a 2-year agreement between the school regarding a summer

scrimmage. Last year Lake Central travelled to Fishers. Lake Central is a 6A school in northwest Indiana and a member of the

Duneland Athletic Conference. The format for the scrimmage will be similar to the Bishop-Dullaghan Camp format that our

players will go through with other teams in June. After separate warm-up and individual periods, Varsity and JV squads will

compete in an Inside Drill while WRs and DBs are going 1-on-1. We will then have a 7-on-7 Pass Skel while the OL and DL

conduct 1-on-1 drills. We will finish with segments of 11-on-11 team scrimmage. There will be no live tackling to the ground

but we will get much out of going against a quality team that we know little about. Following the scrimmage, the Gridiron Club

will provide a cookout meal for both teams. We expect to start the scrimmage at 5 pm (EST) and finish about 7. The LC Booster

Club will feed us before our return home. Upon arrival at Fishers, there will be no more workouts or football activities for our

players until after moratorium ends and we resume workouts on July 11.

Parent FB Meeting to Take Place Final Night of Team Camp There will be a mandatory parent meeting on Thursday, July 21 following our final night of the FHS Team Camp. This

meeting is for all parents of players in grades 9-12. The Gridiron Club will sponsor a pitch-in cookout for players and parents.

Parents may begin eating at 6:30 with the players to eat at the conclusion of the camp at around 7 pm. The meeting for parents

will begin at 7:30. The Gridiron Club will hold a brief meeting and describe their function and how parents can be involved at

the beginning of this meeting followed by FHS Head Coach Rick Wimmer who will go over expectations and procedures for

players and parents during the course of the season. Our Athletic Trainer Bruce Willard, Strength Coach Randy Wheeler, and

Athletic Directors Rob Seymour and Jim Brown will also address the parents and provide important information. Much

important information will be provided during the evening and many questions can hopefully be answered that parents may

have regarding the program, support, rules and expectations, and procedures for the year. Parents are welcome to arrive early

to visit w/ other parents and watch practice. Members of the Gridiron Club will be on hand to answer questions about how

parents can be involved in the support of our football program and players. Information will be forthcoming later in the

summer regarding what parents can bring for the pitch-in cookout.

8th Grade Spring 7-on-7 League

About 30 incoming freshmen participated in the Hamilton County 7-on-7 League. The league consisted of teams from Fishers, HSE, Westfield, and Noblesville. League play began on Sunday, April 24. The season lasted 4 weeks with all games being played on Sundays beginning at 6:30 pm. Each of the 4 schools have 2 teams and each team plays 2 games each night. Coach Wimmer along with Fishers assistant coaches Michael Kelly, Keith Shelton, Ben Wyss, Dexter Stallworth, and Ryan Springman coached the 7-on-7 teams.

Congrats to the players who played. The improvement from week 1 to week 4 was significant by many of the players. Below are the incoming freshmen Tigers who are participating in the 7-on-7 League.

FHS Football Players in Spring Sports The football staff is proud of our players who compete for FHS in other sports. We have always encouraged our

players to take part in other sports here at FHS as we see the value of our football players competing in other sports as a part of

their total development. We want to congratulate these players for their participation during other sports for the Tigers. Good

luck to all of our players, their teams, and coaches who are competing for Fishers High School. We are proud that over 80% of

the football players in our program compete in other FHS sports.

Baseball currently carries a 17-12 record as they wind up their regular season. They will open IHSAA Sectional play on

May 26 vs North Central HS.

The FHS Track & Field Team competed in their IHSAA Sectional last Thursday, May 19 and several football players

advanced to the Regionals which will be May 26 at Lafayette Jeff HS. Congratulations to Charlie Bernhardt (SP), Cam Kosegi

(Discus), Will Syrus (LJ, 4 x 100m), H.L. Lewis (4 x 100m, 200 m), Keyshawn Burrell (4 x 400m, 4 x 100m), Jalen Moss (4 x 400),

and DiSean Graham (4 x 400). Good luck to the Tigers!

Volunteers Serve Community; Assist Geist Half-Marathon and 5K Event

For the 5th consecutive year, Fishers football players helped with the Geist Half-Marathon and 10K Run, a community

event that provides money to the HSE Schools Foundation as well as schools in Lawrence township. Tiger football players as

well as a few other students willing to help and represent the Tigers served as course marshals as well as water station

attendants. Thanks to these Tigers for their help in this great community event.

New Coaches Added to Staff Some changes are occurring on the Tiger football staff. We first want to thank a couple of coaches who have worked

very hard in our program the past several years who have decided not to return to the football staff. Curt Trout, who has been

on our staff for 7 years, has stepped away for the time being. As his children get older and more involved in athletics and other

activities, he wanted to be able to be more involved. Curt joined our staff as the Head Freshmen Coach, a position he held for 2

years, and then moved to coaching various positions with the varsity including TEs, DBs, and finally LBs. The past two years he

has been our Special Team Coordinator. Joe Riordan, after spending 3 years coaching CBs in our program, has taken a position

at Webber International University in Florida. Good luck to both of these coaches and thanks to them for their sacrifice of time

and family as well as for the outstanding job they have done for us. We will miss them both.

We have hired two coaches at this time who will be with us in the future. Trey Mills received his degree from Taylor

University where he played for the Trojans earning NAIA All-American honors as a DB. Trey will serve on our Freshmen staff

and will teach science here at Fishers HS. Joining Coach Mills will be Mike McClain. Coach McClain currently serves as a trainer

at Sparta and works with a number of athletes ranging from youth to NFL prospects. Mike served on the 7th grade staff at

Riverside Junior High last year and will coach on our freshmen staff at FHS.

In other changes on the HS staff, Ryan Springman will move from the freshmen staff to the varsity/JV staff to coach

Safeties. Former RB Coach Matt Bouwie will move from RBs to CBs. Keith Shelton will move from Safeties coach to coaching

the LBs on the Tiger defense. Jeff Harkin will move from Head JV Coach to Special Teams Coordinator. One varsity/JV offensive

position is still in the process of being hired.

As always happens with change, we hate seeing good coaches moving on, but are excited about the new coaches and

roles we have added.

Martin Collects First Offer Tiger offensive lineman Luke Martin received his first college offer this past month when Bowling Green State

University offered him a football scholarship. BGSU is a Division 1 FCS school that competes in the Mid-American Conference.

Former Fishers defensive back Brian Sutton played 4 years for the Falcons, graduating in 2015. Luke is a 6’4, 300 pound

sophomore offensive lineman that started all 11 games for the Tigers in 2015. He may move inside to offensive guard this

season which is where he is projected to play in college.

Two Tigers Ranked in top 5% of Senior Class Congratulations to Alex Johnson and Michael Folta who were recognized as being in the Top 5% of their graduating

class. Both players have been 4 year participants in our program. Folta has been a 3-year letterman, earning the starting free

safety position as a senior. Alex played as a linebacker and earned a varsity letter this past year with special teams duties.

Congratulations to each of these outstanding student-athletes.
