Only two weeks un-til “Bus Stop” pre-

miers at the Playhouse. Are you ready? Director Sam Di Vita shares her thoughts about the show.

Why did you choose to direct this show?

I love the story and because a couple of people talked me into it!

What’s the best part about direct-ing this show?

The best part of directing any play is getting to know the people involved and making new friends. Of course, it’s kind

of fun to play house with living dolls, too!

What was your greatest chal-lenge directing?

Surviving the flu! My poor assis-tant director, Terrie Har-ris, who’s never direct-ed before had to block the whole second act by herself—she did a great job! So, I think it was her greatest challenge, too! Blocking isn’t easy!

Why should people come and see this show?

“Bus Stop” is a sweet love story. It’s funny and sad. Every character has a story to tell. It

all happens in a diner during the quiet hours. Believe me, a lot can hap-pen in the quiet hours!

Do you have a fa-

vorite scene? There are too many great scenes for me to pick just one, but any-

thing with the charac-ters Carl (Ron Barrett) and Grace (Terrie Harris) will make you laugh. Bo (Stevie Viss-er) and Cherie (Lauren Kondrat) will make you sigh—first love. Dr. Lyman (Matt Bach) and Elma Duckworth) will make you chuckle, then cry! Virgil Blessing (David Coffey) and Will Masters (Michael Ham-ilton) will make you think! It’s a win, win!

A theatre seat has been purchased

in memory of Doris “Toni” Hodgkin.

Toni, a resident of Fenton, passed away March 27th at the age of 86.

In her younger years, Toni was a pro-fessional dancer and enjoyed preforming all over the country.

One of Toni’s last out-ings was to see “Run for Your Wife” at the Fen-ton Village Playhouse.

Her greatest joys was watching her fam-

ily perform on stage. Her children and

grandchildren also embraced the arts as artists, actors, singers, musicians, and more.

She also owned dance studios in Cal-ifornia and Florida.

More information about Toni and her family can be found in her obituary at MLive.

If you would like to purchase a theatre seat in memory of a loved one, please contact the [email protected].

The World War 2 Navy uniform of

Fenton Village Players’ benefactor Russ Haden was found in the cos-tume room recently.

Made out of wool, the uni-form is not us-able onstage.

It was decided, with the blessing of his family, to donate his uniform to the Fenton Historical Museum. The museum

will prominently dis-play the uniform along with those of other community members who served our country in the armed forces.

summer’s mu-sical, “The Addams Family,” are upon us! June 1st and 2nd at 6:30pm at The Fenton Village Playhouse.

“The Adamm’s Fami-ly” features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare.

Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respect-able family—a man her parents have never met.

If that weren’t upset-ting enough, Wednes-

day confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother.

Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before—keep a secret from his be-loved wife, Morticia.

The whole family will be turned upside down as the family hosts the fateful din-ner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend—and his family.

The play will be di-rected by Stevie Visser and produced by Joy Carr and Jill Tomlin.

The Board had a lengthy agenda at

their April 8th meeting. Among the many

things discussed was the need for new flats. The Board voted to build new flats and Kidz Theatre Kompany would share the cost.

The carpet in the activity room will be cleaned, a new ramp to the shed will be in-stalled, new parking lot directional and handi-capped signs will be pur-chased, energy efficient LED light bulbs will be installed, new lights will be installed in the dressing rooms, three toilets will be replaced, a new “quiet” fan will be installed in the men’s bathroom, additional

tubs will be purchased for costumes, and gut-ters will be repaired.

We would like to thank our long list of volunteers for your help in keeping the Play-house in tip-top shape.

All of cast photos of our shows have been placed on the activity room wall and the His-tory Scrap books have been brought up to date.

The Board, in con-junction with the Building and Grounds committee, is carefully reviewing our “Needs and Wants” list.

Volunteers are the backbone of this or-ganization and there

are lots of ways to get involved. Your help would be greatly ap-preciated on any of the above projects.

We also need a few folks to take fliers and posters to area businesses for our upcoming shows.

Board meetings are open to anyone.

To volunteer, send an email to [email protected] or call (810)-750-7700.

This months news-letter has been

a real challenge for me. Not because of the content. It actual-ly only took me a few hours to put together. It’s everything else!

I was diagnosed with mono in early April, then late in April was hit with a double whammy of the flu and mono. I also had to take an incomplete in my final two classes, and now the newslet-ter is three weeks late. Go team sickness!

Anyway, I would like to thank every-

one’s patience in getting this out.

Please make sure to share this newsletter with your friends, and, as always, if you have a story to share, please let me or Joy know.

I’m pleased to see our community coming together and helping bring these pages alive.

As a reminder, when sending infor-mation, please make sure to include photos wherever possible and include credits!

The classic play that was later turned

into the acclaimed movie, “Driving Miss Daisy,” is coming to our Second Stage the weekend of June 18th.

“Driving Miss Daisy” is a light-hearted drama that takes place in the mid 20th century. Daisy Werthan (Mary Powers) is the widow of a suc-cessful businessman. After totaling her new car and miraculously escpaing unharmed.

Her son, Boolie Werthan (Matthew Sem-rau,) heir to his father’s business, insists on

hiring a driver. Daisy is less than fond of this idea, but Boolie does it anyway, hiring the easygoing Hoke Col-burn (Dennis Sykes.)

Daisy does her best to rid herself of this unwanted intrusion, but things change as bonds are forged between the three characters.

The self-directed play is being produced by Mary Powers, and written by Alfred Uhry in 1987 and originally performed off-Broadway from 1987 to 1990.
