Downtown Lisle
This is the month when the Chamber membership gives back to our local
students graduating from high school. We will be awarding ten $500
scholarships to some deserving young people. This year we had over 30
applications and the competition was very stiff. To qualify to apply the
students either need a Lisle mailing address or are immediate offspring of
employees of Chamber members.
The committee chaired by Julie LaFond of St. Joan of Arc made their choices and the
students will be introduced at the May 22nd luncheon. This program is truly a highlight of
the year for me. When you observe the quality of the students you feel confident that we
are in good stead for our future leadership. So please attend the May luncheon at the
Hilton Lisle/Naperville and besides honoring the students we will be brought up to date
on what is hot and what is not in the world of social media. Dr. Cassandra Sheffield will
be our speaker. She had a previous engagement with the Women in Business group and
comes highly recommended. There could also be a couple of surprise visitors at this event.
Speaking of Women in Business they will have a program on CPR on the 13th of the
month. This will be held at Benedictine and will be conducted by our own Lisle
Woodridge Fire District personnel. If you want an update on the techniques that are
being used please attend. All are welcome.
The LENGs will be meeting for lunch at Mullen’s and Pizzeria Bombola this month.
This informal networking group has transacted a lot of business during the past year so
please feel free to join us.
At the very end of the month we have a 9 hole golf outing at Naperbrook Golf Course.
This is a new venue for us but we are proud to say that the Naperville Park District
courses are members of our chamber. Let’s show our support and have some fun on the
links. Thanks to Julie Barnett and ServiceMaster for sponsoring a hole and Allison
Cooper and Liberty Mutual Insurance. Check out the sponsorship rate. It is a real deal at
only $150.
Finally let us not forget one of the most important days of the year, Mother’s Day which is
on Sunday May 11th. Please remember your mother on that day in any way you are able.

The General Membership Luncheon took place on Thursday, April 17 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt
Lisle. This month’s luncheon featured two speakers, Keith Krestan, Deputy Chief, Lisle-
Woodridge Fire District and Dave Anderson, Chief, Lisle Police Department.
Keith Krestan focused his attention on the current issues taking place in the Fire District. The Lisle-
Woodridge Fire District is rated an ISO Class 1 fire district, a rating awarded by the Insurance
Services Office. Furthermore, they have the distinction of being the highest rated fire district in the
entire nation. Dave Anderson went on to discuss a new citizen volunteer program in Lisle. The
program will serve as an excellent way for residents to get involved, give back to their community,
and support the Lisle Police Department. Not only will this serve to strengthen the sense of
community in Lisle, it will provide the opportunity to improve emergency preparedness.
Be sure to sign up for our next General Membership Luncheon which will take place on Thursday,
May 22, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hilton Lisle/Naperville. This is an excellent luncheon to attend
as it is also our annual scholarship luncheon. We will be awarding $500 scholarships to ten high
school students carefully selected by our Scholarship Committee. In addition, Dr. Cassandra
Sheffield will be joining us to discuss Social Media Updates. To register for this event, contact the
Chamber at (630) 964-0052 or visit http://store.lislechamber.com/index.php/events.html to register
online.

Pat Coughlin is a Broker Associate at Re/Max Action located at 1550 Maple Avenue in
Lisle. As a Broker Associate, Pat works with residential home buyers and sellers. Her
main focus is on educating her clients throughout the process, being an advocate
throughout the transaction. She has been a Chamber member and Ambassador for two
and a half years. Pat truly loves being an Ambassador. She feels that she is always in
the know about new events, new members, and Chamber activities. She really enjoys having the
opportunity to get to work with and get to know the other Ambassadors, as well as the new
Chamber members. Being an Ambassador has helped her business because it’s a very active
committee with countless networking opportunities. In general, she feels that the Lisle Area
Chamber of Commerce is an ideal setting for any business owner in the western suburbs to
network, meet other business owners, and keep updated on the local community. She believes that
involvement and commitment to your own business and to the overall business community has a
direct impact on the recovery of the local economy.
Pat lives in Green Trails with her husband, 15 year old son, and many pets including: a Greyhound,
Chihuahua, chinchilla, and tropical fish. Her hobbies currently include reading, biking, yoga, and
Zumba but ask her again in 20 years, she will have more when she retires!
The second annual Lisle Ale Fest will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2014.
This event will once again feature one of the largest selections of Oktoberfest beers in
the area. This event is a great way to support the Lisle Community as
proceeds directly benefit the Chamber and local service organizations.
