Principal’s Message
It seems our students are becoming fitness fanatics with the help of ‘Sergeant Ty’ as part of our bootcamp program for this term. “When is Ty coming?” is a
familiar question on a Friday
morning.
K-6 students are put through
their paces, within a variety of
fast paced and interesting
activities aimed at building
and maintaining their fitness
and strength. Ty is friendly
and encouraging with the
students but is also focussing on the discipline associated with
doing the activity correctly. The push-ups seem to be helping
them to understand this!
I thought this was a brilliant example of how well students
respond to the expectations and boundaries placed on them by
the adults in their lives, whether at school, home or out in the
community. High expectations and well devised boundaries really
help to support and develop a child’s sense of what they can
achieve whilst considering the needs of those around them.
These sessions, like the many lessons learnt each week in
school, are allowing kids to push themselves to complete an
activity to a high standard, recognising the value of a job well
done. Well done boys and girls! Your participation and effort is appreciated!

Foster Care Angels
Foster Care is increasing at an alarming rate. When a child is removed from their
home and placed into foster care, they often leave with little or no personal
possessions. At this time, Foster Care Angels provide the child with Care Packages
to make this transition a little easier for them. Sometimes the child leaves with their
siblings and each child receives a Care Package, appropriate to their age. Care Packages are provided to
the child as they transition in to the Foster Care System, giving them a sense of self-worth and
independence.
Our school has been approached to be a collection point for any new donated goods that our community
may be able to offer. A collection bin will be placed in the office for these donated goods to be placed and
later distributed. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. We will send home an information flyer, with
items needed, in our next newsletter. For additional information on the Foster Care Angels please visit their
website: www.fostercareangels.org
‘Before School Refuel’
Just a reminder that some of our students will be provided, by their families, with a small snack that they can eat before the morning bell. Parents please ensure that the snack is small, healthy and able to be consumed quickly.
Anaphylaxis
With ‘Allergy Awareness Week’ week taking place last week, it is important to acquaint ourselves with the particular needs of some of our students.
We ask parents not to send any nut products to school. These products may include nut muesli bars, whole nuts, cashew based dips, nut spreads.
Several students at our school are affected. Please keep in mind that this is not a choice for these families and the potential consequences are extremely serious. Your co-operation will help to minimise the risk to these students.
Woolworths Earn & Learn We are again collecting Woolworths Earn & Learn Points. Please send them to the office by JUNE 9
th.
EOI - Flexischools At our last P&C meeting, an online/ electronic canteen ordering system has been suggested. You may wish to investigate this via the website - www.flexischools.com.au Please contact the P&C using [email protected] to offer your input.
Lunch bags The closing date for orders for the insulated lunch-bags has been extended until the end of term. Profits from these bags go directly to the P&C. There is a possibility that the bags will be available from the canteen later in the year. Labelling Of School Clothes With so many jumpers going missing, even with names on the tags, one of our parents has offered to embroidery label the front of jumpers and back of hats for a small fee. Please contact the office if you are interested.

Class News
Kindergarten Thank you to all the parents who are able to help out in groups each day. It is greatly appreciated and the children love having you. Do not forget to encourage your child to read each night and then ask them some questions to make sure they have understood the story. We will be following procedures next week in groups that Kindergarten are looking forward to. We have also written a description about Giant Pandas this week.
Year 1 Year 1 have been working hard on being more fluent readers this Term. We have been practising every day and it is already noticeable the improvements they have made. When they are reading at home, it would be great to read the book more than once to assist their familiarity with the book. It is really important to keep practising reading on a regular basis with your child at home. In maths we have been practising making numbers with tens and ones. We have also looked at how we can add bigger numbers together. Fantastic work Year 1!
Year 2 Year 2 have been learning about solar energy and how the sun helps living things. We have set up an experiment using seeds. Year 2 planted 3 containers with brussel sprout seeds, 1 container was put in the sun, another placed in the classroom and the last one was placed in the storeroom with no light. We are only 2 weeks into our experiment and are very excited to find out how each container grows. We are also very excited to see the brussel sprouts grow, as we all think they look very funny. Year 2 are beginning to run out of stationary so could you please buy your child some glue, a red pen and 2 lead pencils. If anyone is interested in helping with reading groups it would be greatly appreciated. Reading groups run on Monday – Wednesdays from 9am – 9:30am. Year 2 love having helpers.
Year 3/4 Last week, we received our first take-home assignment for our HSIE unit. We have been researching our community, mainly focusing on its description, features, maps, photographs and what we like about our local area. Miss Wynn has kindly allocated 3 hours for computer time over the the next fortnight to support us in our completion of the assignment. Also, we are all looking forward to our ‘Vision Valley’ camp in Week 9, Term 3. We are having so much fun learning new skills in Dance and Bootcamp sessions. Reminder: ‘Vision Valley’ camp permission slip and medical form is due this Friday 31st May
5/6
5/6 have been completing more water experiments within science lessons. We have discovered how water molecules dissipate at different temperatures.
We are also writing poems using metaphors which add greater depth and meaning to our written work. It also helps to create an image for the reader, assisting with the comprehension of what is written.
Yr 5 have begun reading “Danny the Champion of the World’ by Roald Dahl and ‘Finders Keepers’ by Emily Rodda.
Yr 6 are particularly excited about their ‘Zoosnooze’ at Dubbo. We will include some reports and photos in the next newsletter.
Our HOT MILO MORNING fundraiser is taking place on Thursday 6th June. We will be selling warm Milo from the canteen area before school and at recess for those on the bus who won’t have time to drink it.

Canteen Update Our winter menu has been well received. We are trying to offer a broad range of items that can be prepared by canteen helpers within the timeframe. Our updated facilities and approach towards training new helpers, is designed to ensure safe and comfortable conditions for our valued volunteers. While we make a small profit on sales, the goal is always to provide a convenient and affordable service to our families. Please be advised, canteen staff cannot fill recess orders, particularly hot food, in time for recess. Orders can only be taken for lunch. Students may still buy non-heated items over the counter as usual at recess.

When kids ask “the” questions . . .
Many parents find it hard to discuss or answer questions relating to sexuality education . . . We know how to
‘help break the ice’. Interrelate programs are interactive, family focused and presented in the context of
caring relationships. Our fully trained and experienced educators, who adhere to a strict code of ethics,
conduct the program.
Session 1: “Where Did I Come From?” 1 hour – Years 3, 4, 5 & 6
In this session children are eager to learn more about how their bodies work and the differences between
males and females. This session extends their understanding of conception, fertilisation, foetal development
and the birth process.
Session 2: “Preparing for Puberty” 1 hour – Years 5 & 6
This session helps to prepare children and parents/caregivers for the physical, social and emotional changes
associated with puberty. Changing emotions and relationships with families and peers are addressed.
Information is also presented on menstruation and wet dreams.
You and your child will benefit from the information presented in this program. The feedback is
overwhelmingly positive. What parents have said about us:
“The educator has a great way of putting things simply” “Provided me with a solid foundation”
“Covered areas I hadn’t thought of talking about” “Entertaining and informative”
