Largillière created portraits of France’s wealthy middle class using the drawing and painting techniques of the Flemish masters. The elegant gown in this portrait is reflected in the floral arrangement and in the vase—both created by the arranger.

86 The Annunciation AgostinoMasucciERINRADKEANDJEFFRADKE

Our family used tree blossoms to symbolize the Holy Spirit. Mary and Gabriel are reflected in spring flowers from Grandpa Dave and Grandma Joyce’s garden in Maplewood. The lily is also in Masucci’s painting. Its smell is an announcement.
