MAXIMIZE VM PERFORMANCE WITH PERNIXDATA FVP SOFTWARE AND VCE VBLOCK SYSTEMS

Combine the foremost integrated infrastructure

system with the premier platform for I/O accel-

eration to optimize virtual machine performance

with the highest level of availability and lowest

TCO.

SOLUTION OVERVIEW:

• Support the most demanding applications with

the lowest possible latency

• Effortlessly meet required service levels

• Scale performance seamlessly and cost-effectively

BENEFITS OF THE COMBINED SOLUTION:

VCE Vblock Systems represent the next evolution in IT by combining best-in-class

virtualization, compute, network and storage technologies from VMware, Cisco and

EMC to deliver extraordinary efficiency and business agility. PernixData FVP software

is a perfect complement to ensure that even the most stringent of service levels are

exceeded for all virtualized applications running on the Vblock platform at the foun-

dation of your business. The result is optimal virtual machine performance, cost-

effective scalability, and minimized Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

Extend Vblock Simplicity by Accelerating VM Performance

Pre-integrated, tested, and validated to enable rapid adoption and reduce

time-to-revenue, Vblock Systems can be counted on to increase the predictability

and timeliness of IT projects for solution providers and end-users alike. PernixData

FVP software integrates seamlessly inside the VMware vSphere hypervisor at

the core of the Vblock System to aggregate server RAM and flash to create a

low latency IO acceleration tier delivering unprecedented virtualized application

performance.

The following benefits result from combining VCE Vblock Systems, the world’s

most advanced converged infrastructure, with PernixData FVP software, the

industry’s premier platform for IO acceleration:

• Performance on demand – Add IOPS where and when you need them most

simply by adding RAM and flash to the FVP cluster

• Maximized user experience – By optimizing reads and writes at the host

level, FVP reduces application latency from milliseconds to microseconds

• Extended useful life – FVP offloads up to 70% of VM reads/writes into server

hardware, extending SAN performance and reliability

Distributed Fault Tolerant Memory (DFTM) Extends

Vblock Performance Capability

PernixData FVP software is the first to use RAM as a server-side

acceleration medium (in addition to flash) for both reads and writes

by creating a fault tolerant cluster across hosts. With FVP’s Distributed

Fault tolerant Memory (DFTM), Vblock Systems can handle the

most demanding applications with the lowest possible latency.

Meanwhile, this level of performance doesn’t diminish the high

availability businesses have come to expect from VCE as the data

is always protected by synchronously replicating across hosts. This

eliminates the risk of using a volatile technology for enterprise-class

acceleration.

Use Cases

Modernize Databases

With many database environments unable to benefit from infrastructure

consolidation enabled by virtualization due to concerns about

performance, database sprawl is a real problem in today’s data

center. This proliferation of equipment creates both a management

nightmare and imposes exorbitant licensing costs. With PernixData

FVP software and Vblock systems delivering unprecedented data-

base performance, robust service availability and industry-leading

data management capabilities, any and all databases may now safely

be virtualized to introduce new levels of operating efficiencies.

Faster and More Reliable End User Computing

An increasing number of organizations are implementing Virtual

Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) to more effectively manage end-user

devices with enhanced security, data protection and compliance.

However, VDI environments face the difficult challenge of providing

adequate performance during brief periods of peak usage (e.g.

boot storms, anti-virus updates) without grossly overprovisioning

the infrastructure for the greater portion of time when the average

utilization reaches a much lower point during steady-state. With

a streamlined architecture enabled by PernixData FVP software,

the platform can be designed to cost-effectively provide end users

with a consistent and high quality user experience.

A leading financial services organization deployed FVP with VCE

Vblock System 720 as part of their next-generation compute

cloud architecture and now see the following results:

• 137,000 IOPS per Host (avg.)

• 0.4 ms Latency (avg.)

• 1,210 MB/s Throughput per Host (avg.)

This enabled them to make database virtualization a reality,

reduced reliance on custom hardware platforms, and allowed

them to support high performing application containers like

Docker and TIBCO Silver Fabric all from within their private cloud.
