Empty Bowls
Thursday, Dec 1st, 5-6:30pm in the Great Hall.
Empty Bowls is a tradition at Meadowdale in which we invite
Mav students, staff and community members to purchase a ce-
ramic bowl for $17 with the proceeds going to the Lynnwood
Food Bank to help feed those whose bowls are empty during this
season of giving and thankfulness. We celebrate together with a
soup dinner on December 1st. You can also choose a disposable
bowl for a $5 suggested donation. Enjoy a delicious, heart-
warming bowl of homemade soup with all the fixings before
attending our production of 12 Angry Jurors!

FINANCIAL AID REMINDERS All seniors should consider applying for financial aid to attend college (4-year, 2-year and technical colleges) even if you don’t believe you will qualify for student aid. Some col-leges want this information on file regardless of whether you qualify for federal aid before they will award institutional scholarships! The FAFSA can (and should!) be completed now. The
website to complete this form is www.fafsa.ed.gov. Please take care not to use a “.com” with this website!!!
If you are a College Bound Scholarship senior, you must complete the FAFSA by your college priority deadlines.
Families can now link filed tax information to your FAFSA using completed taxes from 2015. This should streamline the process.
Some seniors will need to complete the PROFILE in addi-tion to the FAFSA. The PROFILE is a supplement required by a few independent colleges and universities. Please see us if you have a question about needing to fill this out. This can be completed now for those of you apply-ing to colleges that require this form at https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/index.jsp.
Please feel free to contact the financial aid offices of any of our local colleges/universities as you are completing the form if you have questions.
ACT AND SAT TESTING FOR SENIORS Seniors planning to apply to a four-year college are encour-
aged to plan accordingly to take the ACT and SAT. New this
year: The University of Washington – Seattle will be Super
Scoring both the ACT and SAT! This means it is important for
students to send all test scores so that the UW-Seattle can
take the best scores from multiple test dates. Please see your
counselor with questions.
Both the ACT and SAT are accepted at ALL colleges.
To register, students are encouraged to register online. In-
structions for completing registration online are available in
the counseling center. The websites are: ACT: www.act.org
SAT and SAT Subject Tests: http://sat.collegeboard.org/
home
Remember that you can choose which ACT scores are sent directly from the testing agency but SAT will send all scores. You are encouraged to have scores sent to colleges at the
time you register to avoid paying extra at a later date. Please see your counselor if you have any questions.
COLLEGE PLANNING NIGHT FOR
JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES
Meadowdale High School is honored to be hosting the 2017 Junior-Sophomore College Planning Night on Tuesday, Feb-ruary 14th at 7:00 pm. Our keynote speaker will be Mike Sex-ton, Vice President for Enrollment at Santa Clara University.
Following the keynote address, we will offer incredible
breakout sessions about various aspects of college admis-sions. Even if you have attended in the past, we encourage
you to come again as you cannot see all sessions in one night. Students are encouraged to attend with their parents/
guardians. All attendees will also receive the Guide to College Admissions produced by the Meadowdale High School Coun-
selors. Breakout sessions include, but not limited to:
Applying to public universities in Washington state · Opportunities at community colleges · The ACT and SAT ·
Financing College · Writing the admission essay and personal statement · College for students with learning disabilities ·
Opportunities for the artistically talented student · Selective college admissions · The NCAA and the student athlete · College for first generation students · Opportunities in
Canada · Student Panel · The Parent Perspective
Please call the counseling center at 425.431.7658 for more
information.
UW APPLICATION DEADLINES The University of Washington – Seattle’s FINAL application dead-line is December 1, 2016. If a student has not submitted his/her application by this date, the application will not be considered for admission to the Seattle campus. All applications will receive a holistic review by two readers. Admission decisions for all appli-cants will be mailed between March 15 and March 31, 2017.
Applications can still be submitted to the UW-Bothell and UW-Tacoma campuses through January 15, 2017.

From the Library Corner:
Thanksgiving is a time of reflection and family and I am so thankful to work with such a great community! I feel like I have three
wonderful families, there is the family that I was born into, my immediate family here in the Northwest comprised of my husband
and two kiddos and finally my Meadowdale Family, and I am very grateful for all three!! We have a lot to be proud of here at
Meadowdale! We are moving on to the High School Football Playoff Brackets: WIAA - 3A! We did an amazing job “scaring hunger”
with our food collection for the Lynnwood Food Bank and we continue to cultivate an amazing group of talented scholars with
heart.
The Library continues to be a busy place where students quietly collaborate on projects, work on homework, tutor each other in
various subjects, read the latest, hot new teen titles and sometimes just decompress. Students seem to be enjoying the utilitarian
aspect of their Chromebooks, but still need to use the desktops in the Library to print and sometimes to collaborate on non-web
based programs. Students receive $1.00 at the beginning of each semester in their printing account but need to put in more mon-
ey as needed (each copy costs .5 cents). $2.00 is the minimum amount that can be put in at any one time into Papercut. We now
have color printer that students can only access in the Library and each color copy costs .50 cents. There is a way for students to
print from their Chromebooks but it is a 14 step process and only prints to designated printers in the building. Here is a link to the
Powerpoint explaining each step: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/12lJMK-XksGSqUTtOFPyVp2pgZmqLJ_eHdSn9pESbusI/

We have a lot of art on display in the Library. Some magnificent stepping stones are exhibited on two large shelves in the Library.
We also have an enticing invitation to make or purchase a hand designed pottery bowl and then enjoy a dinner and a show (12
Angry Jurors) at Meadowdale High School on December 1st. Our students are so talented and our Music and Arts Booster Club
supportiveness allows them to show off their creative abilities!
Now that the Holidays are almost upon us we have set up some great displays in the Library to promote a lot of great old and new
“reads.” This is the perfect season for your student to curl up with a good book and escape into a different dimension, country,
reality or time period. We have lots of great books that will afford these opportunities so please encourage your student to drop
on by the Library and pick up a remarkable book!
Have a wonderful Holiday and don’t forget to “breathe and read!”
Sincerely,
Mrs. Borchert and Mrs. Burns
