Owner of the International Patented biotechnology called:
“Integrated System of Phytodepuration – ISP -” This new biotechnology, carried out from wetlands, phytoremediation and lagoon systems, allows creating "gardens with a pond" instead of classical treatment or phytoremediation plants. Today more than 45 plants in Italy and outside are successfully working with this biotechnology. He works as a Consultant for (i)FAO - Food and Agriculture Organization - United Nations – FAO: workshops in Chile, Peru, Thailand and Egypt, (ii) the SNAM Methane Italian Company, on wastewater analysis, treatment plants and environmental problems of methane pumping stations, (iii) the Molinari Int’l Spa on water quality analyst and consultant in the management of the industrial sewage treatment plant. Further he is a Professor of specialised courses dealing with wastewater treatment by phytodepuration in Viterbo, Italy He is fully acquainted with Windows 98, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop and other software for PC and Macintosh computers. VII SIF TECHNOLOGY PRESENTATION The SIF is an International Patented Biotechnology based on the combination of phytodepuration in pluriculture and conventional technology of depuration. Phytodepuration is carried on in a basin - natural, artificial or mixed - divided into functional sections, each one being substantially marked by the culture of sevreal species of plants (seasonal or evergreen). The operative characteristics of the process allow a simplification of the system’s planning and management; the resulting costs are reduced in comparison with conventional technologies of depuration. GENERAL DESCRIPTION This biotechnology has for object an integrated process for wastewater depuration based on the combination of phytodepuration in pluriculture and conventional technologies of depuration. Chosen plants are principally autochthonous rooted species; in particular, it is a biotechnology consisting in the combination of the following operative phases (flow - sheet)

At the end of the process, the effluent is depurated of all the organic and inorganic compounds that cause pollution: and can be reclaimed in agriculture, industry , etc. Total absence of unpleasant smells.

Since 1986, a lot of applications of the "Integrated Process of Phytodepuration" were realized in Italy; they were planned and dimensioned to work all over the year, even in adverse climatic conditions (snow and frost) using evergreen plants.We report some examples - VINEGAR INDUSTRY This plant treats the organic sewage of a vinegar company located in Province of Modena - Italy. The application of the I. S. P. consists in: Stage A : Imhoff tank used like primary sedimentation to separate solids. Stage B : High-load biological treatment based on the S.A.P.S. (Submerged areated percolating system), this system reduces the organic load from 7.000 mg / lt in COD up to 1.000 mg / lt Stage C : phytodepuration basin divided into two functional sections ; in the first there are evergreen plants, the second is a pond with fishes; following picture shows a general view of the plant. Vinegar Industry -1,200 inhab/eq. Dairy - 800 inhab/eq. - PRIVATE DAIRY Pesci’s dairy is a private industry builted in 1995; it is in the province of Viterbo, Central Italy. It is a covered area of 2.000 sqm, and it is supplied with the most modern technologies for fresh and seasoned cheese. All sewage produced is piped to a depuration plant arranged in the diary area. The treatment plant was built according to the I.S.P. biotechnology. Stage A : Imhoff tank that collects diary’s sewage. Stage B : Oxydation tank with activated sludge Stage C : Phytoabsorbing basin with evergreen rooted plants and pond with fish Outlet effluent flows to the final well and it is piped under earth for subirrigation. From 1995 up today the effluents discharged by this plant come within law limits, both chemical and microbiological.

LAND RECLAMATION AND REINSTATEMENT OF THE NATURAL BIODIVERSITY
IN A DEGRADATED AREA NEAR PO RIVER This project concernes an area known as Mezzano, which borders the Po River and theValley of Comacchio in the Province of Ferrara, Emilia Romagna, Italy. The project aims are: (i) To recover and improve the pre-existent biodiversity conditions of the area with the realization of a constructed wetland , (ii) Reduction of organic and inorganic loads presents in the water of River Po (iii) Biomass production for industial uses : paper, etc.(iv)Protection and reproduction of tench and local species of fishes (v) Creation of a Natural Park for children recreation and didactical purposes. The constructed wetland is divided in two modules (or sub-areas) with a total extension of 40 hectares, the two modules are separated by a central channel. Each module has its own use: - The first is assigned to the biomass production and the restoration of the local fish fauna. - The second to naturalistic uses, recreation and didactical purposes. The Inlet flow is 1 - 3 m3 / sec. and the organic load is 280 - 850 Kg / h in COD. A pump system has been installed to recirculate and improve water quality. This project won the ” International Prize Carnia Alpe Verde" - Edition 1995. The aerial picture shows the whole area of the contructed wetland .
Land Reclamation Marposs Company
PRIVATE COMPANY - MARPOSS Spa Marposs Spa is a private company with 1,000 workers and located in Province of Bologna, Italy. In 1990 the Industry Management decides to renew the activated sludges wastewaters treatment plant, builted in1975, utilizing the ISP. The ISP application allowed: (i) to increase the plant potenziality so to respect the current law limits, (ii) to reduce the activated sludge production and consequentially the management costs, (iii) to recover and reuse treated waters to irrigate its own gardens. THE SILE RIVER PROJECT
In 1995 European Community classified the Sile River natural resource for drinking water and the Italian Gouvernment declarated the same one a Natural Park: NATURAL PARK OF THE SILE RIVER To preserve the river water quality the Park Management decided to treat all the civil wastewaters discharged in the river; with this aim was developped the : SILE RIVER RECOVERY PROJECT The project deals with the construction of eighteen plants for civil sewages applied on equivalent number of municipalities, for a total of 85,000 inhabitants and using only one biotechnology: the Integrated System of Phytodepuration. The project has been planned in 1996, financed in 1997 and today there are some plants realized and others in construction. Financing Board: Italian Ministry of Environment Founds manager: Natural Park of Sile river. The project was mentioned " one of 100 greenest projects in Europe” by the International Prize - Carnia Alpe Verde, Edition 1997.
Sile River Project Town of Porto Recanati
TOWN OF PORTO RECANATI Porto Recanati is a seaside town on the Adriatic sea in the Province of Ancona, Italy, with a population of 20,000 inhabitants. The municipality treatment plant (built in 1985): (i) lacked of a tertiary treatment stage to reduce the high inorganic load present in the treated waters and (ii) had efficiency problems in the summer period caused by the touristics presences. For these reasons the Municipal Administration decided to employ the ISP as tertiary stage treatment. The original design foresees the realization of two individual phytodepuration basins, each one with a capacity for 10,000 inhabitants, to achieve a total of 20,000. The first one was built and started working in 2000; the other will be built in 2003. Today all treated waters from the first phytodepuration basins (3.200 mc/d) are reclaimed and reused for irrigation and there is a project to use these ones for fish production. PROJECT LIFE - ENVIRONMENT: ECOFIMON FIMON LAKE WATER QUALITY RECOVERY and TOURIST TRADE DEVELOPMENT The lake of FIMON is in the province of Vicenza, northen Italy. All around the lake there are five villages of which the biggest is Arcugnano, located on the shores of the Lake. The project aim the construction of 5 different ISP plants to treat and reclaim in agriculture the wastewaters discharged from 5 different villages so to recover the water quality of the lake of Fimon.
OBJECTIVES - To treat urban wastewaters reducing the lake pollution - To develop tourist activity all around the lake RESULTS 1 - 90 % reduction of the civil pollution in the lake catchment area 2 - Improvement of the lake water quality 3 - Improvement of environmental quality 4 - Creation of new job opportunity

PROJECT - FAO/MEX - COUNTRY: MEXICO ISP PLANT APPLIED TO PIG FEEDLOT SEWAGES
Objectives of the project • To contribute to the improvement of the environmental conditions in rural or semiurban areas of the developping countries. •To promote the recycling of treated water in a sustainable and cheap way, contributing to the reduction of the costs of energy today requested by the used irrigation systems. •To design a new wastewater treatment plant that has low cost of construction, maintenance and operation and that would be applied to several diffrerent organic wastewaters (from urban sewages to industrial wastes). • Demonstration of the advantages between this new treatment technology and the conventional systems. In the I.S.P. plant we can distinguish three operative stages how showed in the following diagram
Stage A: Anaerobic Biodigestion with production of Biogas Stage B: Biological treatment of oxidation Stage C: Phase of Phytodepuration basin, divided in two functional sections: 1 - first is an artificial tank with rooted plants in hydroponic culture 2 - second is a lagoon where the activity of the phytoplankton is developped. All the System (stages A+B+C) is designed and calibrated to respect: - requirements of the Guanajuato territory; - climatic conditions; - biological adaptation of the rooted plants and of the fish - the use of autochthonous species is recommended.
