Mexico is glad to celebrate its National Day in Hong Kong every year during the
month of September with a programme of cultural and artistic events. For 2011, the
Consulate General of Mexico in Hong Kong is proud to announce that talented
Mexican pianist Mauricio Garza-Salazar would be touring Asia with the support of
the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This touring concert will certainly allow the Hong Kong public to experience Mexico’s
rich cultural and artistic legacy through music, a universal and effective language
that could deliver meanings and be understood among people from all walks of life.
Maestro Garza would present the programme Ponce, within four Decades aiming to
introduce the work of Manuel M. Ponce, Mexico's most important and renowned
composer of the XX century. Ponce’s work as a composer, music educator and scholar of
Mexican music connected the concert scene with a usually forgotten tradition of popular
song and Mexican folklore. Many of his compositions are strongly influenced by the
harmonies and form of traditional songs.
In order to put Ponce’s work in a time context, this piano recital contrasts the music
of this famous Mexican musician with that of other European composers that were
born exactly 20 years before and 20 years after his birth in 1882.
We are looking forward to share the talent of Maestro Mauricio Garza and the
beauty of the Manuel M. Ponce’s legacy with the Hong Kong public.
