Anticipated Benefits

• Proactive response to regional “Ripple Effects” of significant events through prompt, coordinated action based on timely, reliable information.

• Enhanced public awareness of significant events so that they can make better travel decisions

• Improved traveler safety resulting from less exposure and advanced warnings

• Continued improved performance resulting from incident reviews, training and performance measurement

• Assess plan, adjust plan, train / exercise

• Limited initial coverage (through June 2009): daily peak periods; planned events

• The MATOC Facilitator will move among agency operations centers

• Regional incident activity will be monitored using a variety of information sources

• Notifications of regional transportation incidents will be made

– Through telephone calls, 2 way paging and other confirmed means

– Agency staff expected to take appropriate response actions

– Test communication and coordination among participating agencies

• No direct media contacts

• Situation reports and updates will be provided until incident ends

• Website access will be investigated / evaluated

• Inauguration Day will provide an opportunity for MATOC to exercise the Proof of Concept in a planned regional event

Evaluate / Improve

• Assess accuracy, comprehensiveness and timeliness of information in RITIS and other sources

• Identify best methods of communicating with each MATOC agency, other agencies and the public

• Identify / understand specific stakeholder information needs

• Identify / make needed enhancements to RITIS and other software tools

• Define ongoing RITIS operations, maintenance, and support requirements

• Finalize MATOC staffing needs and equipment needs

• Assess / adjust standard operating procedures and protocols

• Prepare for full deployment on / before July 1, 2009.

• Communications Plan being developed– How MATOC will convey information about itself and address

stakeholder concerns

• Focus Group being formed– To obtain recommendations on how MATOC can best share

incident information with other agencies in the region and with the media

– Will include local traffic and transit agencies, commuter rail, public safety, State PIO representative, and media representative

• Developing a regional strategy for how MATOC will coordinate with agencies in the region to share information with the media/public

• Identifying future budget needs and funding sources
