This week you could use one of these strategies to help you learn your spellings for the days of the week:
English
1) Read the story Augustus and his Smile by Catherine Rayner with your child (also available on the YouTube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuVj8qqMmdg
Augustus and his SMILE
Augustus the tiger was sad.
He had lost his smile.
So he did a HUGE tigery stretch and set off to find it.
First he crept under a cluster of bushes. He found a small, shiny beetle, but he couldn’t see his smile.
Then he climbed to the tops of the tallest trees. He found birds that chirped and called, but he couldn’t find his smile.
Further and further Augustus searched. He scaled the crests of the highest mountains where the snow clouds swirled, making frost patterns in the freezing air.
He swam to the bottom of the deepest oceans and splished and splahsed with shoals of tiny, shiny fish.
He pranced and paraded through the largest desert, making shadow shapes in the sun. Augustus padded further and further through shifting sand until.... pitter patter, pitter patter, drip drop plop!
Augustus danced and raced as raindrops bounced and flew. He splashed through puddles, bigger and deeper. He raced towards a huge silver-blue puddle and saw....
There, under his nose.... his smile.
And Augustus realised that his smile would be there, whenever he was happy.
He only had to swim with the fish or dance in the puddles, or climb the mountains and look at the world – for happiness was everywhere around him. Augustus was so pleased that he hopped and skipped and jumped away, smiling.

PSHE: Year 2: Celebrating differences
Think of a friend or someone you know at school, Mosque or a club you are in and think
about the ways in which you are similar to him/her and different.
My friends name is:
I am similar to him/her because: I am different to her/him because:
Here is some information about a new person.
Read it with an adult.
How are you similar or different to them?
Harriet Tubman was born a
slave on a plantation in
Maryland. Historians think
she was born in 1820, or
possibly 1821, but birth
records weren't kept by most
slave owners. Her birth name
was Araminta Ross, but she
took the name of her mother, Harriet, when she was
thirteen.
Life as a slave was difficult. Harriet first lived in a one-
room cabin with her family that included eleven
children. When she was only six years old, she was
given to another family where she helped take care of
a baby. She was sometimes beaten and all she got to
eat was table scraps.

Tuesday - Respect:
https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/how-can-we-show-respect-activity-sheet-t-c-2549271
Showing respect is a way to let people know you care for them and understand them. By showing respect, people let each other know that they understand
their feelings and wishes. Respect makes someone feel special and loved.

Wednesday (English)
1) Read the comprehension below about Tigers with your child.
What Do Tigers Look Like?
Tigers are mammals. They are the biggest of the big cat family. Most tigers have orange fur with black stripes on their body. Some tigers have black or white fur with light brown stripes. The stripes help to camouflage the tigers when they are hunting for their prey. The markings on every tiger are different, a bit like human fingerprints.
They have long legs to help them run fast and sharp claws to catch and kill their food. They also have a very long tail.
Did You Know…?
Unlike other cats, tigers love water and are fantastic swimmers.
Where Do Tigers Live?
Tigers that live in the wild live in Asia. Some live in the cold parts of the north, others live in the south where it is hotter. Tigers live in different types of forests. They like to live and hunt on their own and mark their territory by scratching marks on trees with their powerful claws.
Sadly, tiger habitats are being destroyed and people hunt them for their fur. This means tigers are now endangered. Most are living in captivity, in places like a zoo or wildlife sanctuaries, to protect them.
What Do Tigers Eat? Tigers are carnivorous (they only eat meat). They like to hunt for food at night. They silently stalk their prey and then pounce, biting it with their strong, sharp teeth. Tigers eat pigs, rhinos, deer, cows and horses, as well as other smaller animals.
2) Answer the comprehension questions. Encourage your child to find the answers in the text
1) What do tigers have on their fur? _______________________________________________________

The Heart and the Bottle
(By Oliver Jeffer)
Once there was a girl, much like any other, whose head was filled with all the curiosities of the world.
With thoughts of the stars.
With wonder at the sea.
She took delight in finding new things...... until the day she found an empty chair.
Feeling unsure, the girl thought the best thing was to put her heart in a safe place. Just for the time being. So, she put it in a bottle and hung it around her neck... and that seemed to fix things... at first.
Although in truth, nothing was the same. She forgot about the stars.... and stopped taking notice of the sea.
She was no longer filled with all the curiosities of the world and didn’t take much notice of anything other than how heavy and awkward the bottle had become. But at least her heart was safe.
It might never have occurred to the girl what to do had she not met someone smaller and still curious about the world.
There was a time when the girl would have known how to answer her. But not now. Not without her heart. And it was right at that moment she decided to get it back out of the bottle. But she didn’t know how. She couldn’t remember. And nothing seemed to work. The bottle couldn’t be broken, it just bounced and rolled right down to the sea.
But there, it occurred to someone smaller and still curious about the world that she might know a way. And it just so happened... she did. The heart was put back where it came from. And the chair wasn’t so empty anymore. But the bottle was.

Thursday Topic: Animals and their habitats.
Animals across the world all live in particular habitats for many different reasons. Polar Bears for example are adapted to live in cold areas, but they would not cope well living somewhere too hot.
Can you research one animal from the list below and create a fact file about it:
Polar bear.
Kola bear.
Camels
Snakes
Whales.
If you would prefer then you can pick another animal of your choosing.
Remember to always use the internet safely.
