1 Monday

Starter - Count in steps of 2, 5 and 10

Main activity - Another and another

Write 6 different answers which fit each of these

statements:

- A pair of numbers with a total of 10 (20 if you want a

challenge)

- A pair of numbers which differ by 5

- A number we say when we count in 2s, 5s and 10s

Match mine

If you don’t have a ruler, use a non- standard unit of measurement, for example, the length of their

hand or width of their finger and adapt the challenges (eg. Something that is longer than 10 hands)

Tuesday

Starter – Play a number bonds game using pairs which total

10 or 20

Main activity – Same and different

Look at the sets of numbers and objects. For each set think

of something which is the same about them and something

which is different.

- circle, square, triangle, rectangle

- 3 + 5, 4 + 4, 10 – 2, 7 + 1

- 11, 14, 16, 18

Challenge: Make your own list of 4 things which have

something that is the same and something that is different.

Wednesday

Starter – Make a list of everything you can remember about

measuring length (eg. units, equipment)

Main activity – Match mine

Looking around the house or outdoors, can you find

something that matches each of these statements:

Shorter than 1cm

Longer than 20cm

Exactly 10cm

Wider than 7cm

In-between 4cm and 6cm

Has equal length sides

Longer than 1 metre

Challenge: Write your own measuring challenge for someone

else in your family to try.

Thursday

Starter – Write the numbers 1 to 20 in words

Main activity – What's missing?

Use your addition and subtraction skills identify what’s

missing from the calculations (sometimes it might be the

tens or ones rather than a whole number.

Friday

Starter – Sort a set of numbers into odd and even

Main activity – Pyramid challenge

Page 4: Maths Overview WB · Monday & Tuesday – to count coins / to recognise coins Give the children a range of different coins and ask them to put together the correct amount for an object

Maths Overview WB

Use your addition and subtraction skills to fill in the gaps on

the pyramids. This activity is available on the school website

and Purple Mash in the 2do list.

Money

Monday & Tuesday – to count coins / to recognise coins

Give the children a range of different coins and ask them to

put together the correct amount for an object. Create a

little shop at home. Challenge: can you buy this 20p item

using only copper coins?

Wednesday – to find change

To find change we find the difference (subtract).

Use your shop again but the till isn’t working out the change

for you! Find the difference on a number line and then use

the coins to return the change.

Thursday – to solve word problems involving money

Ensure that the children are using the correct methods for

addition (partitioning) and subtraction (find the difference

on a number line). Use RUCSAC like we did for the word

problems in previous weeks.

Friday – to solve reasoning problems involving money

Use the white rose document here to ensure that the

children have a full and deep understanding of this week’s

learning:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Main: Assesssment style one and two-step problems.

Read the questions in the resources folder carefully and

work out what they are asking you to do using RUCSAC. Do

some of them require you to do more than one calculation?

Work them out and check with the inverse!

Mastery:

Friday

Starter: Number bonds practice on hit the button.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Main: Problems solving.

Use the knowledge you have of addition to systematically

work through the problems. They require you to think

critically so remember all that you know about place value,

addition and subtraction.

Mastery:

5 Monday Monday Answers:

Page 10: Maths Overview WB · Monday & Tuesday – to count coins / to recognise coins Give the children a range of different coins and ask them to put together the correct amount for an object

Maths Overview WB
