Maths as a subject often suffers from having a bad image.
According to the NCETM “in English society today there exists an essentially negative set of attitudes towards Mathematics” which are “regularly rehearsed by the media, in the pub and the school playground”.
Researchers talk about an “alarming phenomenon” of increasingly negative attitudes towards mathematics.
In particular, it is thought that girls “irrespective of their age or nationality are less positive in their beliefs about their personal competence [in mathematics]”.

The “image problem” is by no means insurmountable.
Our students enjoy maths and maths lessons.
They participate in lunchtime and after school clubs.
They take part in online challenges at home.
We need your help to build on this momentum and further encourage our students
