Introduction to Adult Learning

Welcome to Ashford Children’s Centre Adult Learning Programme in Partnership with Kent Adult Education service. We have some really innovative courses on offer that will build on your existing parenting skills. We also offer courses to support you in your personal development. Our courses are unique. The tutor will not tell parents “how it’s done”, instead they are discussion-based with time to share experiences, ideas, concerns and explore possible solutions together. We understand that going back to learning can be scary for some people, with this in mind every course has a member of staff linked to it, to support you and remove any barriers you have to learning. We also offer limited free child care during courses in the form of crèches. All staff are qualified and experienced Childcare professionals to meet the individual need of every child and are DBS Checked. Please be aware that if your child is attending the crèche, please attend the settling in session to complete paperwork and allow your child to explore the crèche room. All courses where a crèche is offered to your child meet the week before the start of the course for children and parents to meet the Early Help Support Workers and become familiar with the crèche room. If you have any questions or would like to book your place on a course, simply contact your local Children’s Centre* today! All courses are confirmed with Adult Education one week before the start date, so please DON’T DELAY, BOOK TODAY. *Contact information for Children’s Centres is on the front page.

Enjoy a fabulous time together with your child, making pop bottle rockets. Feedback from previous rocket making session include: ‘Brilliant time that gave me lots of ideas of what to do with my children during the holidays’. ‘Fun, Fun and even more Fun!’ Lots of people here for fun, would like more like this’

If you would like to work with your children to learn more about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in a fun and practical way then this is just for you! Great fun for you and your preschool children. Explore the wonders of our world by engaging in fun activities together such as building chocolate bridges or making and racing balloon buggies.

Baby Signing

Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help babies, children and adults to communicate.

Research has shown that signs and gestures are easier to learn than spoken words. Baby Signing, if used regularly will encourage babies and children to let others know what they want, make choices, share information and understand more.

This is a 5 week course for parents/carers with children aged 4 - 24 months. This is a certified course and parents must attend all 5 sessions in order to gain the certificate.

Book your place now for your local Children’s Centre. If you cannot get to one of the venues listed, please phone and let us know your local Centre and we will try and arrange a course near you.
