Chapter Two – Training For Your Part 7

Training For Your Part Mathnasium takes pride in our interactive and effective teaching methods. We use Mathnasium methods because it makes learning simple for our students. Our methods also teach the student why something works, as opposed to just how something works. By doing so, students retain concepts of math better. All employees must complete at least three levels of training. All training is done online, through salesforce.com. Your Center Director will provide you with specific information on how to begin your training. The levels of training, as well as deadlines and compensation rates, are as follows. Mathnasium University 101 – Basic Training Mathnasium University 101 is a compensated training. Once complete, you will receive a lump sum of $100.00. Employees must complete this training within 4 weeks of employment. Figure 2 shows the cover of this training manual. Mathnasium University 102 – Basic Training Mathnasium University 102 is a compensated training. Once complete, you will receive a lump sum of $50.00. Employees must complete this training within 8 weeks of employment. Mathansium University 103 – Advanced Training Mathnasium University 103 is a compensated training. Chapter Three – Keeping the Center Clean 11

Keeping the Center Clean Keeping the learning center organized creates a peaceful environment for the students to learn. In order to keep the learning center clean and organized, employees must work together to cover all bases. Daily Instructional Schedule A typical student will spend about an hour at the center each time they visit. Some students stay up to an hour and a half, which is the maximum amount of time allowed. Figure 3.1 illustrates how the students’ hour at the center should be spent. This model can be modified to accommodate those who wish to stay more than an hour. Daily Tasks and Cleaning Aside from instructing students, instructors should keep the learning center clean and organized. Of course, an instructor’s priority is instructing and aiding students. An optimal time for cleaning is during slow periods of the day. Most tasks are self-explanatory; these tasks will be listed below. However, other tasks have specific procedures in order to be as efficient as possible. This section of the employee manual details these specific tasks General Cleaning Tasks An instructor can locate the materials needed for completing these tasks in the supply closet located at the back of the learning center. Refill the Reward Cabinet if empty or at the end of the day. Check the water cooler to see if it needs more water. Refill scrap paper at your tables. Clorox the assessment room table. Dust your tables during the day. Dust your tables right before close. Windex your tables right before close. Sharpen the pencils, or new ones, in the assessment room. Spot vacuum when students leave the learning center. Take out all trash and recycling, relining each trash can. Straighten magazines in the waiting area.

Disinfecting Tables, Toys, and Door Handles For this cleaning task, an instructor will need the spray bottle of CaviCide, which is located in the supply closet. This task should be done every other day.

1. Starting from the back of the building, spray all door handles one time each. 2. Spray the entire surface of all tables in the learning center. 3. Spray all toys in the waiting area of the learning center

Cleaning the Bathrooms of the Learning Center For this task, an instructor will need the Windex cleaner, one paper towel, three Clorox wipes, and the Lysol toilet bowl cleaner. You may also need toilet paper and paper towels. All supplies is located in the supply closet in the back of the learning center. This task should be done daily for both bathrooms.

1. Lift both the cover and the toilet seat up. 2. Line the underside of the inner rim of the toilet bowl with Lysol cleaner so that the

cleaner drips down, covering the sides of the bowl. 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other toilet. 4. Spray Windex on the surface of the mirrors and wipe until clean and dry. 5. Throw the paper towel away. 6. Use one of the Clorox wipes to wipe down the entire surface of both sinks, including

handles and the faucet. 7. Throw the wipe away. 8. Use the other two Clorox wipes to clean the two toilets, using one wipe for each toilet. 9. Wipe the top of the toilet tank and then the sides of the toilet tank. 10. Wipe the toilet seat then lift the toilet seat. 11. Wipe the underside of the toilet seat then the rim of the toilet bowl. 12. Wipe the outside of the toilet bowl. 13. Throw the wipe away. 14. Scrub the inside of the toilet bowl with the toilet bowl brush located beside the toilet. 15. Scrub until clean, making sure no residue is visible. 16. Flush the toilet. 17. Replace toilet paper if necessary. 18. Refill paper towel dispenser if necessary.

Periodic Cleaning and Reorganizing Schedule As part of maintaining the center, instructors must perform certain cleaning and reorganizing tasks on a weekly basis rather than daily. These tasks are just as important as daily tasks; however, it is more efficient to perform the weekly. Dust all shelves and tables in the waiting area. Windex the Reward Cabinet inside and out. Windex the windows of the assessment room. Vacuum with the big vacuum. Windex the front door (twice a week).

Chapter Four – Knowing the Rules 15

Knowing the Rules Mathnasium aims to create the best environment for students so they may learn to the best of their ability. An organized, structured environment is key for a great learning environment. Attendance and Tardiness The Center Director notifies employees of their starting and ending times of their shift both on a physical calendar at the learning center and online on Google Calendar. Mathnasium of Southlake expects instructors to keep track of their work schedule. Excessive tardiness and poor attendance disrupts workflow and instruction to our students. Instructors should notify the Center Director as far in advance as possible if they are unable to attend their shift, if they will be late, or must leave early. If the Center Director is unavailable, notify the Lead Instructor. Mathnasium has a 3-Strikes policy for tardiness. If an instructor is late for any reason by more than three minutes and fails to notify the Center Director, an instructor receives a strike. After three strikes, an instructors’ employment terminates. If an instructor fails to show up for their shift for two days in a row without notifying the Center Director, an instructor’ employment terminates. If an instructor is unable to work on certain days, an instructor must write it on the calendar for the Center Director to see. In the case of an emergency and an instructor is already scheduled, it is the instructors’ responsibility to find someone to cover their shift. Dress Code for Work In order to maintain an optimal learning environment for our students, we need the learning center to be free of distractions. Although Mathnasium does not provide a formal uniform, we expect all employees to follow certain guidelines. Employees may also choose to wear a Mathnasium t-shirt. Any other shirt or blouse must be church appropriate or business casual. Employees may wear jeans as long as they are free from rips or tears. Employees may wear shorts as long as they are not too short. Employees should avoid wearing sweatpants or any type of fitness attire. We want to maintain a professional, distraction-free environment for our students. Cell phones at Work Mathnasium discourages instructors from using their cell phones to text or make phone calls while instructing students. While it is acceptable to have your cell phone on you, instructors should turn cell phones on silent mode during business hours. In the case of an emergency, an instructor may go to the back room to make a phone call. If the emergency requires the instructor to leave early, it is the instructor’s responsibility to inform the Center Director. Instructors may use cell phones as calculators as long as students are able to maintain focus.

16 Mathansium of Southlake Employee Manual

Employee Payroll Mathansium of Southlake issues paychecks bi-weekly. Importantly, instructors should remember to scan in and out at the correct time. Scanning in and out at the correct time is important in calculating paychecks correctly. Mathnasium deposits checks directly into instructors’ bank accounts. Employee Resignation Occasionally, personal affairs result in an employee’s decision to change jobs. In such cases, instructors should give at least two weeks; notice. Keep in mind, Mathnasium greatly appreciates a longer notice due to the necessary time it takes to train new staff members. Advanced notice allows us time to adjust working schedules and secure a replacement. Advanced notice is an act of courtesy; by law, it is not required. However, Mathnasium will favorably note on the employees’ record if an instructor chooses to do so. Mathnasium grants employees who leave in good standing consideration if they wish to return to work at a later date.
