ADDTAKING 2 AMOUNTS AND ADDING THEM TOGETHER.. HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES….. 2+8=10 , 33+43=76
BASE the bottom of any shape besides a
circle
This is the bottom of a shape
CATENARY A curve whose equation is y =
(a/2)(ex/a+e-x/a). A chain suspended from two points forms this curve. ceiling function The ceiling function of x is the smallest integer greater than or equal to x…………………………..
DIVISION A basic arithmetical operation
determining how many times one quantity is contained within another …… so here are some examples :
2√6=3 5√30=6 72√8=9
EULER'S CONSTANT The limit of the series 1/1+1/2+1/3+...+1/n-ln n as n goes
to infinity. Its value is approximately 0.577216.
FRUSTUMFor a given solid figure, a related figure
formed by two parallel planes meeting the given solid. In particular, for a cone or pyramid, a frustum is determined by the plane of the base and a plane parallel to the base. NOTE: this word is frequently incorrectly misspelled as frustrum.
GRAPHSA graph is a set of points (called vertices)
and a set of lines (called edges) joinging these vertices
HEXAGON A polygon with 6 sides.
INFINITE becoming large beyond bound
JOINT PROBABILITY FUNCTION A function that gives the probability that
each of two or more random variables takes at a particular value.
KILOMETER A unit of length equal to 1,000 meters
….. For example 7 mi. = 11.2654 km 19 mi. = 30.5775 km
LEAST COMMON MULTIPLE (LCM) The least common multiple of a set of
integers is the smallest integer that is an exact multiple of every number in the set.
2: one occurrence 3: two occurrences 5: one occurrence 2 × 3 × 3 × 5 = 90 <— LCM
MEDIAN When a set of numbers are ordered from
smallest to largest, the median number is the middle number of all the numbers.
The median is the middle value, so I'll have to rewrite the list in order:
13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 21 There are nine numbers in the list, so
the middle one will be the (9 + 1) ÷ 2 = 10 ÷ 2 = 5th number:
13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 21 So the median is 14.
NUMERICAL ANALYSIS The study of methods for approximation
of solutions of various classes of mathematical problems including error analysis.
OBTUSE ANGLE an angle larger than 90o but smaller
than 180o
PELL NUMBER The nth term in the sequence 0, 1, 2, 5,
12,... defined by the recurrenceP0=0, P1=1, and Pn=2Pn-1+Pn-2.
QUARTILE The first quartile of a sequence of
numbers is the number such that one quarter of the numbers in the sequence are less than this number. quintic polynomial A polynomial of degree 5.
RATIONAL NUMBER A rational number is a number that is
the ratio of two integers. All other real numbers are said to be irrational. real axis The x-axis of an Argand diagram.
SUPPLEMENTARY Two angels are supplementary of they
add up to 180o.
TWIN PRIMES Two prime numbers that differ by 2. For
example, 11 and 13 are twin primes.
UNIT CIRCLE A unit circle is a circle with radius 1. unit
cube A cube with edge length 1.
VOLUME The measure of spce occupied by a solid
body. vulgar fraction A common fraction.
WHOLE NUMBER A natural number. winding number The
number of times a closed curve in the plane passes around a given point in the counterclockwise direction. witch of Agnesi A curve whose equation is x2y=4a2(2a-y).
X-AXIS The horizontal axis in the plane.
Y-AXIS The vertical axis in the plane.
ZERO ELEMENT The element 0 is a zero element of a
group if a+0=a and 0+a=a for all elements a.
