Course Delivery Format
Students taking this distance learning section of Math 108 will view course lectures online at a time and place
independent of the traditional course lecture in a classroom on campus. Students are not required to attend
lecture sessions on campus but do have a timeline for course activities and assessments. Typically, three items
are due at a time: the video lecture assignment, the homework assignment, and the timed quiz assignment. The
required online video lectures are a prerequisite to the online assignments. The online assignments are a
prerequisite to the online timed quizzes. Assignments should be started well before the date they are due to be
successful in this course; in general, students who start the assignments the day they are due are not successful
at completing the course with a passing grade.
The two proctored cumulative outcomes exams are administered in a CSI testing center or in an approved
external testing center. Students who reside outside a CSI testing area use an alternate approved testing location
(see campus testing section of syllabus). The CSI testing center does not charge a testing fee. However, non-CSI
testing centers may charge a testing fee, which is the responsibility of the student.
CSI E-Mail and Contacting your Instructor
Since email is the primary source of written communication with students, all registered CSI students get a
college email account. Student e-mail addresses have the following format: <address>@eaglemail.csi.edu
where <address> is a name selected by the student as a part of activating his/her account. Students activate their
accounts and check their CSI e-mail online at http://eaglemail.csi.edu. Instructors and various offices send
messages to these student accounts. Students must check their CSI e-mail accounts regularly to avoid missing
important messages and deadlines. At the beginning of each semester free training sessions are offered to
students who need help in using their accounts. Personal e-mail accounts cannot be used.
Subject Line of all E-Mail correspondence
When you e-mail your instructor, include your NAME and your COURSE (Math 108) in the SUBJECT line of
the e-mail. For example….. Subject: Jane Doe, Math 108

Outcomes
General education in Mathematics develops the understanding of mathematics as a language which permits the
student to express, define, and answer questions about the world.
Student Learning Outcomes 1.The students will be able to analyze real-world questions and mathematically structure strategies to model the
question. 2. The students will be able to correctly provide solutions to the models of the questions. 3. The
students will be able to communicate the solutions to the questions when analyzed and solved mathematically.
Daily assignments, daily quizzes, and cumulative tests (midterm and final outcomes assessment) will be used to
assess mastery of course content and to assess student achievement. A grade of D or F will be used by the
instructor for a student who does not perform at a 60% or higher on the proctored cumulative midterm and/or
the cumulative final outcomes assessment exams. The purpose of measuring outcomes is to determine success
and overall knowledge of the subject, to predict the preparedness for the next math course in the sequence, and
to improve instruction.
Course Evaluation
To help instructors continually improve courses, students are strongly encouraged to go online to
http://evaluation.csi.edu and complete an evaluation which open two weeks before the end of the course and
close the last day of class. When students enter the site, they find evaluations for their enrolled courses. Thank
you for this valuable input!

Campus Testing Center
The Campus Testing Center is located in Room 230 of the Academic Development Center in the Meyerhoeffer
Building. CSI Picture ID is required at a CSI testing center. Campus Testing Center hours are listed at
http://www.csi.edu/ip/adc/testing/testing.htm. No test will be given out later than one hour prior to closing in
the CSI testing center. Students may be required to travel to the campus or branch campus testing center for
the cumulative assessments (midterm exam and final outcomes assessment) unless other proctoring
arrangements have been requested by the student to the instructor. Timed quizzes are given online and these
can be completed on your home computer. The cumulative midterm and cumulative final outcomes assessment
cannot be completed at your home computer. Therefore, plan on testing in one of the CSI testing center
locations or an approved off-campus site. Students outside the CSI testing area are required to follow the
Guidelines for Exams Taken off Campus found at the CSI testing center website. Follow the Proctor Guidelines
at http://www.csi.edu/ip/adc/testing/proctorinfo.htm

B (80-89)
C (70-79)
D (60-69)
F (0-59)
Important Grading Note: A grade of D or F will be used if either the proctored Midterm or Final Exam is below
60% competency, regardless of course grade average.
Online Assignments 20%
Online Timed Quizzes 20%
Cumulative Midterm and Final Exam 60%
Withdrawals:
It is the student’s responsibility to drop the course. A student may drop a course or all courses prior to the end
of late registration (first Friday of the term) without it being recorded on the student’s official transcript. A
student initiated drop after the late registration period is considered a withdrawal, and results in the grade of W.
(Students may drop courses online until the end of the late registration period. In order to withdraw from one or
more courses following late registration, a completed registration form is required. Instructions on the form
indicate when a signature of instructor and/or Financial Aid advisor is required. The completed form may be
submitted to Admissions & Records or any off-campus center.)
NOTE: Students may withdraw from courses until 75% of the course meetings have elapsed. No course may
be withdrawn from after 75% of the course has elapsed.
Homework Procedure
Viewing the course lectures online is a part of homework assignments and notes should always be taken on
course lectures. Homework problems are assigned online in the course website. Students should work these
problems only after reading the textbook and viewing the course lecture. Problems should be worked out on
paper and then submitted online. Keep these papers in a folder when working through homework so that there is
a paper backup from what you submit online. The instructor will call for the paper backup if any online content
is deleted. Problems are taken from the course textbook and given in alternate form. More practice problems
can be found in the book.
Late work is not accepted for full credit. A student who misses a homework assignment may have 24 hours to
turn in a late assignment for 50% credit. No late quizzes allowed. A late test is allowed within 24 hours of the
due date for a 10% penalty. Due dates and due times (Mountain Standard Time) are listed online in the course
website. You can attempt a homework question twice by clicking “similar exercise” when you have an incorrect
Free Technical Support Hot Line: 1-800-677-6337 Page 5
problem. However, timed quiz questions can only be attempted once. No late grace period is allowed on
quizzes.

You will need to schedule your time well in advance and complete the work BEFORE the date listed if you have a conflict;
PLAN AHEAD. Once an assignment, quiz, or test closes, it closes. However, you may miss two homework and two quizzes
per semester without your grade being affected. Those scores will be dropped at the end of the semester. In addition, you
will have a 24-hour grace period on homework (not quizzes) in which you may still submit work for 50% of the grade.
You also have a 24-hour grace period on the two comprehensive exams to take a missed test with a 10% grade penalty.
Some questions are multiple choice. Should I work the problem out or just look for the best possible answer?
On math work that has multiple choices, you should cover up the choices, work the problem out, and then go back and
look at the options you have.
