sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing

925 by weight of silver and 75 by weight of

other metals usually copper the sterling silver

standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of

925 Fine silver for example 999 pure silver

is generally too soft for producing functional

objects therefore the silver is usually alloyed

with copper to give it strength while preserving

the ductility and appearance of the precious

metal

a gemstone (also called semi-precious stone)

is a piece of mineral crystal which in cut and

polished form is used to make jewelry or other

adornments however certain rocks (such as

lapis lazuli) or organic materials that are not

minerals (such as amber or jet) are also used

for jewelry and are therefore often considered

to be gemstones as well Most gemstones are

hard but some soft minerals are used in jewelry

because of their luster or other physical prop-

repousse is the time honored indonesian met-

alwork technique utilized as a cornerstone

of cynthia Galersquos product development our

Javanese artisans work out of wooden logs

which are then turned on end hollowed out

and filled with a black sticky pitch Sterling sil-

ver sheet is then carefully laid in the pitch and

a relief is hammered from the back of the piece

to form the singular dimensional shape the

finished piece is then chased from the front

to sharpen the design before oxidation is ap-

plied to add depth and texture by darkening

recessed areas within the design The final sur-

face is polished to a resplendent high sheen to

emphasize the line form and detail

repousse is the time honored indonesian met-

of cynthia Galersquos product development our

Javanese artisans work out of wooden logs

which are then turned on end hollowed out

and filled with a black sticky pitch Sterling sil-

ver sheet is then carefully laid in the pitch and

a relief is hammered from the back of the piece

to form the singular dimensional shape the

finished piece is then chased from the front

to sharpen the design before oxidation is ap-

recessed areas within the design The final sur-

a gemstone (also called semi-precious stone)

is a piece of mineral crystal which in cut and

polished form is used to make jewelry or other

adornments however certain rocks (such as

lapis lazuli) or organic materials that are not

minerals (such as amber or jet) are also used

for jewelry and are therefore often considered

to be gemstones as well Most gemstones are

hard but some soft minerals are used in jewelry

because of their luster or other physical prop-

erties that have aesthetic value

repousse is the time honored indonesian met-

alwork technique utilized as a cornerstone

of cynthia Galersquos product development our

Javanese artisans work out of wooden logs

which are then turned on end hollowed out

and filled with a black sticky pitch Sterling sil-

ver sheet is then carefully laid in the pitch and

a relief is hammered from the back of the piece

to form the singular dimensional shape the

finished piece is then chased from the front

to sharpen the design before oxidation is ap-

plied to add depth and texture by darkening

recessed areas within the design The final sur-

face is polished to a resplendent high sheen to

emphasize the line form and detail
