BOUNCE BACK: Following last night’s 12-3 defeat to the Braves
in the second game of a four-game series, the Dodgers dropped two
straight for the first time since losing back-to-back against the
Nationals on June 5-6. Despite the loss, Los Angeles still holds the
best record in the Major Leagues with a 66-31 (.680) mark, 1.5
games head of the Houston Astros. Following the weekend set
against Atlanta, the Boys in Blue will continue their season-long
tying 10-game homestand (0-2) with a three-game Interleague
matchup with the Minnesota Twins and a three-game series against
NL West rivals, the San Francisco Giants.
The Dodgers have won 31 of 37 since June 7, which is the
best 37-game stretch since the 2013 club went 31-6 from
July 7-Aug. 18. The only other team in franchise history to
best that stretch, was the 1899 Brooklyn Superbas, who
won 32 of 36 games from May 10-June 23. Since the
aforementioned June 7 date, the Dodgers have been truly
dominant:

Los Angeles, which has won 18 of its last 21 games at
Dodger Stadium, is a Major-League best 39-13 (.750) at
home this season, outpacing all but the 1953 Dodgers (60-
17, .779). According to Stats LLC., the Dodgers’ .750
winning percentage at home would rank among the best
single-season mark by an NL team since the 1975 Reds,
who went 64-17 (.790) at home – that Reds team would
eventually win the World Series.
The Dodgers have gone 14-7 against the Braves since the
start of the 2014 season, including winning eight of 11
home games during that span. Los Angeles has also gone
14-5 against NL East opponents this year, including
winning eight of its last nine contests.
The Dodgers’ +169 run differential is the best in the Major
Leagues, two runs better than the Astros.
The Dodgers are 66-31 through 97 games, their best 97-
game start to the season since having an identical record in
1955. The 1952 Dodgers were also 66-31 through 97. The
last Dodger squad to better that mark was the 1942
Brooklyn team, which was 68-29 en route to 104 wins. The
the ’52 squad did not win their 98th game.
HILL-TOPPER: The Dodgers tonight will send left-hander Rich
Hill to the mound for his 14th start of the season as he looks to record
his seventh win of the year. Hill last pitched on Sunday at Miami,
allowing just one run on five hits in 5.0 innings with nine strikeouts,
as he recorded the win in the Dodgers’ 3-2 victory. In three starts
during the month of July, Hill has gone 2-0 with a 0.95 ERA (2
ER/19.0 IP) and has held batters to a .162 average. During that span,
he has also recorded 29 strikeouts against only one walks, while
posting a 0.63 WHIP.
Hill last pitched against the Braves on Aug. 29, 2013 as a
member of the Cleveland Indians, allowing one hit in 0.1
inning of relief. In seven career games (five starts) against
Atlanta, Hill has gone 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA (7 ER/33.1 IP)
and has held the opposition to a .192 average, while
punching out 31 batters against 10 walks.
Hill has been excellent with runners in scoring position this
year as he is holding batters to a .156 (10-for-64) mark in
those situations, which is the fourth-best mark in the Majors
(min. 70 batters faced) among starters, behind just Gio
Gonzalez (.132), Clayton Kershaw (.147) and Andrew
Cashner (.154).
BATTING CROWN?: Dodger All-Star third baseman Justin
Turner improved his Major League batting average to a .371 clip
after going 1-for-2 with a double in last night’s contest. He also leads
the big leagues with a .467 on-base percentage, while ranking third
in the league with a 1.045 OPS. Turner, who is vying to become the
first Dodger to win a batting crown since Tommy Davis in 1963,
looks to join Davis and Eddie Murray (1990) as the only Los
Angeles Dodger to finish the season with the best average in the
Majors:
LAD Ranking 1st in MLB in Batting Average, 1958-2017

Tommy Davis, 1962 .346
Tommy Davis, 1963 .326
Eddie Murray, 1990* .330
Justin Turner, 2017 .371 (thru July 21)
* Willie McGee won the NL batting title in 1990. He finished the
season with a .324 batting average, but posted a .335 mark with the
Cardinals before being traded to the Athletics on Aug. 29, 1990. SOURCE: STATS, LLC
THE CT SHOW: Despite going hitless in last night’s contest,
Dodger infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor is batting .410 (25-for-61)
in 15 games during the month of July, which leads the club and ranks
third in the National League. Since the All-Star break, Taylor has
been crushing the ball, as he ranks third the Majors with a .483 (14-
for-29) batting average (min. 30 PA), only behind Gerardo Parra
(.538) and Bryce Harper (.500). During that span, Taylor has also
recorded seven runs, three doubles, two triples, one homer and two
RBI in seven games.
BELLI-BOOMING: Dodger rookie sensation Cody Bellinger,
who went 1-for-4 with a run scored in last night’s contest, currently
is tied with Joey Votto for second in the National League with 26
home runs, four behind Giancarlo Stanton. Since his April 25 call-
up, the 22-year-old leads the Major Leagues with 26 home runs and
ranks second in RBI, six RBI behind Nolan Arenado. Since
Bellinger’s promotion, Los Angeles is 57-20 (.740) and is 56-18
(.757) when he starts.
BEST IN SHOW: Despite allowing 12 runs in last night’s contest,
the Dodgers still lead the Major Leagues with a 3.18 ERA. The club
also leads the Majors with a 1.13 WHIP, a .226 opponents’ batting
average and 10 shutouts, while leading the NL in strikeouts (927).
The Dodger bullpen leads the National League with a 2.90
ERA (103 ER/319.1 IP), a 1.10 WHIP (1st, MLB) and 3.87
strikeout-to-walk ratio (364 SO/94 BB, 1st MLB). Two-
time All-Star closer Kenley Jansen recorded his 24th save
on Tuesday (2nd, NL) and currently owns the longest active
save streak this year (24). Jansen has thrown scoreless relief
in 21 of his last 22 appearances, going 2-0 with 16 saves
and posting a 0.38 ERA (1 ER/24.0 IP) with 27 strikeouts
during that span.
AIN’T IT GRAND(AL): Dodger catcher Yasmani Grandal
continued his hot hitting at Dodger Stadium, as he recorded his
second consecutive multi-hit game last night after going 2-for-4 with
a double and an RBI. Grandal currently ranks among the top-15 in
the NL in doubles (14, T-5th), batting average (.320, 13th) and
slugging percentage (.569, 15th) at home, while stroking eight of his
13 homers at Chavez Ravine.
Grandal currently leads Major League catchers with 20
doubles, while ranking among the best in hits (73, 4th),
