Create Your Success Story at MATC

An MATC education works for our graduates and the many local businesses that rely on them. The college’s career-centered associate degree and technical diploma programs are linked with industry professionals who advise the college on what skill sets graduates need to succeed. The results are impressive. Our 2012 graduates were employed quickly and earn competitive starting wages.

MATC’s class of 2012 distinguished themselves despite a still sluggish economy. Almost nine of 10 associate degree graduates were employed within six months of graduation. Eight of 10 technical diploma graduates were employed within six months of graduation. These impressive achievements are a testament to the commitment of our graduates, the skills they acquired and the abilities of our faculty to prepare students for careers.

MATC graduates can be found in virtually every Milwaukee area workplace. They are the skilled technical professionals in rewarding occupations that include creative/digital careers, protective services, skilled manufacturing and building trades, healthcare, business, engineering, IT, green industries and more. Whatever the workplace need, we have the occupational programs and the talented graduates ready to respond.

Many of our students also enroll at MATC as the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. Our affordability, which puts us among the best values in higher education, our small class sizes, accessible faculty, and convenient campus locations help make MATC your best route to personal and professional goals.

I invite you to learn more about our many career opportunities through this report, by going to matc.edu or, better still, by visiting one of our four full-service campuses. Our support staff and faculty are ready to help you start your MATC success story.

Sincerely,

Michael L. Burke, Ph.D.President

Multiple Paths to Your Goals

In addition to 85 associate degree and 52 technical diploma programs, MATC also offers:

Certificates – Targeted, short-term (one-semester) programs designed to prepare you quickly for a career or update your current job skills.

Four-Year College Transfer – Finish the first half of your bachelor’s degree through Liberal Arts and Sciences courses (200-level). Credits are accepted at public and private four-year colleges throughout the state and beyond. We also have 400 four-year college transfer agreements that provide transfer of selected associate degree programs as the first two years of a four-year degree.

Apprenticeships – “Learn and earn” a skilled trade at MATC and on the job through one of 20 partner employers.

Students attend MATC for a variety of reasons. For those who do not intend to complete a degree or diploma program, success means completing a course or two to gain a specific skill. The total number of annual graduates increased 40% since 2002. About 2,700 students graduate from the college each year. In addition, MATC is committed to the Completion Challenge, an important nationwide initiative to increase the number of graduates 50% by 2020. MATC’s goal is to reach 3,900 graduates in seven years.

Graduates: Students who graduated from an associate degree or technical diploma program in December 2011 and May 2012.

MATC District: All of Milwaukee County, the southern two-thirds of Ozaukee County and small portions of Washington and Waukesha counties.

Employment: The proportion of responding program graduates who are employed per program. When fewer than three graduates from a program responded, the percentage of WTCS graduates employed statewide is shown in parentheses but not included in the overall program average for employed MATC graduates.

Salary Figures: The average salary of MATC graduates responding to the survey and computed per program. When fewer than three program graduates provided annual salary data, state WTCS graduates’ average annual salaries are provided in parentheses. Otherwise, the data are omitted (noted as **). State median salaries are not included in computing the overall average program salary for MATC graduates.

Employment Projections: Job openings for each college program are the total projected employment opportunities for all Wisconsin counties. Projections include both new and replacement positions for the corresponding occupational category.

Report Definitions and Qualifications

About the Survey: This report is based on telephone surveys conducted among graduates between November 2012 and February 2013. Fifty-eight percent of December 2011 and May 2012 graduates (1,600 of 2,782) responded to the survey.
