In 1934, Dodge built four-wheel-drive trucks and modified them to suit the Army's whims with one-ton, half-ton, and three-quarter-ton capacities, in many variety applications of wheelbases. It has open and closed body styles well before and end of the war. So all of those soldiers, sailors and airmen, who were farmers, construction workers, miners, or sportsmen, sought out Dodge for its rugged, honest goodness, and nearly unbreakable build quality.

Dodge found itself swamped with requests for the rugged wartime "carryalls" or trucks after the war. They had built nearly 226,776 of them. The trucks where built though, the 6x6 WC62/63s, the T214s, and the T234s, were never in question. With four-wheel-drive capability, they were seen as a high-tech bonus, and to boot, they had a 2,000-pound payload capacity off-road.

It was responding well to customers demand. The Dodge engineers got to work on a new civilian truck. The resulting Dodge Power Wagon. Even though it was not new or nor original; it has evolved through “parts room engineering.”
