Editorial:
Optimally equipped for a successful future.Dear colleagues and business friends,
Th e RECTUS Group had an extremely
successful start to 2006. It seems that
the positive trend initially identifi ed in
the 4th quarter of 2005 will continue
through the whole of 2006. We will
therefore not only achieve the targets
we have set ourselves, but it appears that
we will again exceed them in many areas.
For this, I would like to thank you all
very much.
On the one hand, the international
recovery of the competition is certainly
decisive for the success of the RECTUS
Group and, on the other hand, we have
also done our internal “homework” and
set ourselves up well for the changed
market conditions. Th e increasing spe-
cialisation of our customers in their
own core competences also requires a
higher level of specialist knowledge in
all areas on our part. We have taken this
trend into account. Trained external
sales personnel have specialised in in-
dividual segments of the market, which
makes them even more competent as
partners for all queries and assignments
from our customers and prospective
customers. Th is sales team is supported
by highly qualifi ed product managers,
whose specialist knowledge in the
various areas means that they are sought-
after specialists for the development and
application of the latest in connection
solutions. Our staff are at home with
medical technology, food and drink,
mechanical engineering, climate cont-
rol and environmental technology and
in industrial hydraulics, which makes
them competent contacts both for our in-
dustrial customers and for our own inter-
nal and external sales teams.
Th is year, we will again be presenting at
the world’s largest trade fair for chemical
technology, environmental protection and
biotechnology – ACHEMA in Frank-
furt a. M. In addition to our time-
honoured coupling systems, we
will also be showing the specia-
list world a range of newly
developed products. For ex-
ample, we will be presen-
ting the smallest dry-break
quick connect couplings
available, in nominal dia-
meter 4. Further in-
formation on this and
other solutions from our range is
given in this latest edition of our cus-
tomer magazine. Additionally, you will
also fi nd many interesting reports
here on the practical application of our
products and on all innovations from
the RECTUS Group and our brands,
RECTUS, TEMA and NYCOIL.
Bearing this in mind, I wish you an
enjoyable read and would like to thank
you now for working with us and for your
confi dence in our products.

Our trade fair highlights
Our trade fair stand at ACHEMA 2006: clearly, thema-
tically structured and with a large, comfortable bar for
stimulating discussions. Th is is the practiced application
orientation of everything “made by RECTUS”.
1. Plastic coupling systems: Our plastic coupling systems for industrial and medical
applications stand out particularly for the quality of the
materials used. For example, our new medicine series come
in high-grade POM, in USP class VI quality.
2. Stainless steel coupling systems: Available in many stainless steel types, these systems are
always the best choice for applications from high-purity
water through to aggressive media. Th ese systems are
available in a choice of single or double shut-off and dry-
break designs.
3. RECTUS safety couplings:
Many of our products are also compliant with higher
safety requirements in many ways. For example,
colour and mechanically coded systems make it
impossible to confuse diff erent media, self-ven-
ting couplings off er reliable prevention of the dreaded
whiplash eff ect, and dry-break couplings guarantee work
with no drips.
4. NEW! 204, 206 and 209 series
Detailed information on the new generation of dry-break
couplings is given on page 13 of this issue.
5. Our fl at face range: Th e main features of these products – which are used mainly
in mobile hydraulics but also represent optimum solutions in
many other application areas – are their minimised leakage
and the extremely fl at valve structure, which provides reliable
protection against dirt entering the system.

RECTUS AG
In the past and current years, RECTUS AG has invested over 2.8 million Euro
to further improve the competitiveness of the Nussdorf site. Th e expansion of the
operating area by 800 m2 and an additional 1,200 pallet storage spaces take into
account the further expansion plans of our company. Th e complete restructuring
and optimisation of the assembly and dispatch procedure is a particular contri-
buting factor in ensuring the future of our main site, which allows for the further
expansion of production capacities – at the same time as reducing production costs.
For the particularly sensitive sectors of
chemistry and medicine, a new clean
room has been created, in order to take
into account the extremely high safety
and cleanliness requirements at the
couplings production stage. A perma-
nent test stand – equipped with the latest
technical systems and options for load-
testing coupling systems – complements
the huge building investments. Th e new
company building also houses the training
centre for the 230 employees and 14
trainees. Professional training – and
the associated company respon-
sibility to young people – has
been a fi rm component of our
company policy for over four
decades: Not only has
RECTUS been con-
tinually expanding
since 1960, it has
also taken on all
trainees and
off ered them
qualifi ed
employment in the company. Th is too is
promotion of the site in practice.
Regarding constantly rising energy costs,
which increasingly aff ect competitiveness,
RECTUS has taken precautions: the
new construction of a geothermal system
means that most of the heat requirement
for the company building can be met
with geothermal heat – which makes
it independent of developments in the
crude oil market. A photovoltaic system
also installed ensures environmentally
friendly power generation.
Both internally and externally, the
RECTUS Group presents itself as a
modern, innovative company, which is
open to new ideas and which claims to
be a problem-solver for its customers. All
this, in conjunction with a clear belief
in the Nussdorf location. Even in this
context, we want to be the advance guard
and demonstrate that with motivated
employees and an open-minded manage-
ment it is possible for successful compa-
nies to grow within Germany.

RECTUS special couplings ensure smooth particle transport:
There is much more to it then you would think.
In building machines for particle
foaming, Teubert has been relying on
RECTUS quick connect couplings for
ten years. A special coupling designed
specifi cally for the Teubert job profi le
ensures that no particles are deposited
or tilted during the fi lling process.
Who knows that the inside of a bumper
or sun visor is made of particle foam?
Th ings that generally never occur to the
everyday user have been the order of the
day at Teubert Maschinenbau GmbH
in Blumberg/Germany in the southern
Black Forest for the last 35 years. Today,
Teubert has around 70 employees and is
one of the renowned manufacturers of
standard and special machines for proces-
sing EPS, EPE and EPP particle foams.
Whichever the system in question for the
individual case, the core of the machine is
always the integrated injector. Th is shoots
the particle granulate into a pre-heated
mould where the pellets fuse to a precise
fi t. It is important that the particles do not
tilt or stick any point during injector per-
fusion and impair the fl ow.
On order by Teubert, RECTUS deve-
loped a special material coupling free of
interference edges and indentations, with
a nominal diameter of one inch. Th e
solution was based on a robust series 74
coupling with a nickel-plated brass body.
By contrast to the tried and tested stan-
dard coupling, this special design is com-
pletely smooth and continuous inside.
Th ere are no edges or strictures on which
particles could be deposited. A short
handle enough to open and close the
coupling, with no screws or requirement
to hold in place. Despite the cumbersome
hoses and restricted space conditions this
means that coupling/uncoupling is easy at
any time.
Furthermore the 74 series standard cou-
pling is suitable both for compressed air
and for vacuum. It forms an airtight seal
not only from the inside outwards, but
also from the outside inwards. Th is pro-
perty is of essential importance to this ap-
plication as the particles are not pressured
through the hoses by compressed air but
rather sucked through by vacuum.

RECTUS 21 series makes minimal quantity lubrication even easier and more fl exible:
Here, less really is more.
Whether for turning, grinding or drilling –
whether in die cutting, moulding or rol-
ling, the tempo in cutting and non-cutting
metal processing is constantly increasing.
Naturally, this causes a continual increa-
se in friction heat, which must either be
reduced or preferably prevented. Other-
wise, both the tool and the work piece will
suff er. Short life spans for cutting tools
or poor surface fi nish quality for high-
alloyed CR-Ni steels are both typical
examples of the consequences. Previously,
for the sake of simplicity, the entire work-
space was cooled with a liquid jet (so-
called fl ood cooling). However, this simp-
le procedure has serious disadvantages:
not only has disposal of the wastewater
become very expensive, employees also
increasingly suff er from health due to the
lubricants being used. Furthermore, only
a very limited proportion of the coolant
reaches its destination. Th e rest just runs
off and dirties the entire work area.
To avoid these problems, minimal quantity
lubrication is the optimum alternative.
For this, a very high-grade oil is sprayed
and applied in minimal dosage directly
to the tool contact point. By contrast to
fl ood cooling, this process aims not to
divert the friction heat, but rather to
prevent it from ever occurring. Th e appli-
cation of the lubricant to a precise spot
has two decisive advantages: on the one
hand, tool life spans are signifi cantly in-
creased - sometimes even doubled; on the
other hand, the work retains a constantly
high surface quality. Th e company, Link
Dosiergeräte GmbH, has now been
relying on high-grade coupling systems
from RECTUS for 15 years. Our 24-
hour delivery service provides optimum
support for the fl exible production con-
cept of this Karlsruhe-based company.
Easy handling and very fl exible application options
make the Link GmbH micro-jet system for minimal
quantity lubrication stand out. Whether controlled
manually or by machine – via corresponding
manifolds – it is possible to spray as many tools as
desired with cooling lubricants. Th e use of million-
time proven quick connect couplings from the
RECTUS 21 makes the system also easy to upgrade
or refi t and transportation is no problem. Two of
these solid brass coupling systems provide the
simple connection for the compressed air and the
lubricant. Here, the RECTUS coupling comes with
the benefi t of compact assembly dimensions and
easy single-handed operation. Th e single shut-off
coupling systems are also designed so as to provide
reliable resistance to the lubricant pressure of 7 bar.
Minimal quantity lubrication with the RECTUS 21 series.
In modern metal processing, minimal quantity lubrication has become a recognised
alternative to fl ood cooling. As one of the pioneers of this technology, Link GmbH
continues to set benchmarks: the micro-jet system is unequalled in dosing precision
and compact operation of the lubricant jet. Th anks to modern couplings technology
from RECTUS, it is also easy to upgrade and quickly refi tted and transportation is
no problem.

TEMA swivel joints ensure freedom of movement for hydraulic systems:
Always stay fl exible.Almost impassable terrain, dirt, wind
and weather all mean that when used
in forestry equipment, it is not only the
lifting machines that have to meet the
highest demands – even the hydraulic
systems for the attachments must be
able to withstand these extreme con-
ditions. Moreover: particularly when
loading or working on logs in almost
impassable forest terrain, attachments
must have unlimited freedom of move-
ment – in spite of their hydraulic supply
system from hydraulic hoses.
Here, TEMA swivel joints are used and
ensure that the rotary movements of the
equipment cannot be transferred to the
hydraulic hose. Th anks to the perfected
joint structure, there is almost no loss of
pressure here. Th is means that the
swivel joint can be used suc-
cessfully even if trans-
portation of a
high volume of hydraulic oil is required.
Depending on the area of application,
TEMA swivel joints are available in the
widest variety of sizes and materials, with
the maximum rotation speed of the joint
being 60 r.p.m. Th e TKR series in steel
(partially hardened, polished and yellow
galvanised) will withstand operating pres-
sures of up to 350 bar and has excellent
durability at over 1.2 million rotation
movements. Th e TDG series in brass
(with steel axle, hardened and polished) is
non-corrosive and designed for a working
pressure of up to 250 bar. As the swivel
joint is also available with stainless steel
axle, it can also be used for water appli-
cations.
Th e swivel joints are avai-
lable with a choice of
sliding or ball be-
arings. With fo-
restry cranes, this

harshest conditions.
also means that lateral loads, which can
be caused by extreme operation and harsh
rotation movements, are absorbed. Even
the temperature resistance of the swivel
joints (-40 to + 90°C) has been designed by
TEMA for the most severe weather con-
ditions and thereby for particularly harsh
requirements. In addition to forestry work,
TEMA swivel joints are also used in ma-
chinery construction, mobile hydraulics,
in hoisting and conveying engineering, in
construction and agricultural machinery,
and in the automotive industry.

TEMA fl at face couplings ensure smooth operation in forestry technology:
In Sweden, there is no such thing as bad weather...
Th e RECTUS Group Customer Magazine
As the name, “fl at face” says, the coupling
and plug profi les on these double shut-off
systems are completely fl at – with no dead
room whatsoever. Th is means that no oil
can escape during uncoupling and no air
pockets or dirt particles can get into the
system. In addition, the innovative valve
structure means that the fl at face cou-
pling systems guarantee minimal pressure
drop and high fl ow rates.
For applications in the Swedish forest,
three fl at face couplings are already
in uses, which can be coupled/uncoupled
simultaneously. Th is is made possible
by the use of a multi-plate – half of
which is on the truck and the other
half with plugs is on the attachment.
Two connections at 220 bar each form
the pressure line and the return line
and a further connection provides the
signals for the hydraulic measuring system.
Th e multi-coupling is coupled and uncou-
pled automatically by a manually opera-
ted pneumatic cylinder. Th e com-
pressed air for this cylinder is taken
directly from the compressed air
tank on the truck. By using this, the
hydraulic connection from the forest-
ry crane can be easily separated from
or coupled up to the truck in seconds,
which results in a huge saving on time
when the operation location is changed
frequently.
Previously when coupling and uncou-
pling with the traditional ISO A cou-
plings, the dynamic pressure on the
forestry crane had to be released by
hand and the oil drained. Not only
did this coupling procedure involve consi-
derable time and eff ort, it also had a ques-
tionable environmental impact as a result
of the ISO A coupling valve design and
the inevitable oil leakage. If the coupling
is not in use, a special cover ensures that
the multi-plate is protected against dirt.
... only unsuitable couplings. When ice and snow make
work in the Swedish forests completely impossible for
other systems, this is when TEMA fl at face couplings come
into their own. Designed for this type of conditions, they
guarantee dirt-proof and dry-break coupling even under extreme
conditions.

New RECTUS couplings range for the medical sector: comfort and safety for patients and clinics
New RECTUS stainless steel coupling with profi le compliant with ISO 6150 C:
As a stainless steel coupling with the
ISO 6150 C plug profi le that is po-
pular in medical and analytical tech-
nology, the new RECTUS 303 series
is the optimum addition to our product
portfolio.
Th e high fl ow, specifi c sealing material and
high resistance to aggressive media mean
that the space-saving miniature couplings
can be used in many areas of the medi-
cal, chemical and food industries. Due to
its low carbon content, the stainless steel
used – AISI 316 L – is signifi cantly more
resistant then traditional titanium-stabi-
lised steels. Th is means that the coupling is
reliably protected against corrosion from
pitting and stress cracks. With respect
to the seals, in addition to the standard
design in FKM (Viton), FDA approved
EPDM seals for special chemical or food-
technical applications are also available.
Th e double shut-off design also off ers an
additional safety factor: the valves are only
opened once the coupling body and plug
are sealed and thereby spray-protected.

In the medical sector, the strictest hygi-
ene and safety conditions apply – even
for the connecting elements that are
used here. With the RectuPom (series
21 – DN 5), the medical technology divi-
sion has developed a new type of plastic
industrial coupling, which is compliant
with the highest requirements.
Produced in the high-grade plastic, POM,
in USP class VI quality and with FDA
approved sealing element, this double
shut-off mini coupling stands out for its
high mechanical rigidity and excellent
resistance to liquids and high tempera-
tures. Furthermore, the above-average
fl ow is ideal for liquid and gaseous me-
dia up to 10 bar – simultaneously provi-
ding both the highest level of safety and
simple single-handed operation with au-
tomatic locking. Th e RectuPom coding
system is a new development. Not only do
four colour codings on the coupling and
respective plug ensure that it is impossib-
le to mix up the media, the mechanical
coding on this quick connect coupling also
off ers reliable protection. For example, the
red hexagonal coupling for warm liquids
and the blue octagonal variant for cold
liquids ensure that body temperature does
not drop during a lengthy operation and
speeds up patient recovery from the pro-
cedure. Other variants such as the round
and triangular RectuPom for compressed
air applications are used in decubitus mat-
tresses, for example.

As a logical further development of the
successful fl at sealing coupling series, the
new RECTUS couplings also stand out
for their extremely low leakage rates and
for a minimal volume of dead space. Th is
also has the eff ect of eliminating airlocks
during the coupling procedure and, when
uncoupling, only a negligible fi lm of the
medium being transported remains on the
valve bodies. Designed for single-handed
operation, another captivating aspect of
the dry-break series is its extremely easy
handling. Th anks to the new, ergonomic
sleeve shape – which ensures good grip
and handling even with gloves – even
overhead applications can be carried out
with no problem. As all the most stressed
components of the coupling are equipped
Th e new RECTUS Series 204/206/209
There are times when even a single drop is one too many.At ACHEMA 2006 in Frankfurt, the RECTUS Group will be presenting a product
innovation: from 15th to 19th May, we will show the new, dry-break, low pressure
systems from series 204, 206 and 209 – quick connect couplings with lower coupling
force than any standard model currently on the market. A further innovation: as a
dry-break design, the new coupling series off ers the smallest nominal diameter ever
available on the market (4 mm).
with high-grade materials, they can also
be used in environments with high mate-
rial and function requirements – such as
in the process-technical industry for ag-
gressive liquids, for example.
As well as analysis technology for connec-
ting liquid and gaseous media in chemical
processes, the coupling is also predestined,
for example, for use in cooling systems
– particularly in electronic systems, where
an absolute dry-break coupling procedure
must be guaranteed.
As an option, the new coupling
series, 204, 206 and 209 are also
available in mechanically/colour-
coded versions, which prevent in-
correct coupling of media that do
not mix.
Safety comes fi rst.
