EXPECTED
LEARNING OUTCOMES Graduates will be able to:
Critically evaluate the biomedical aspects of global health issues
Integrate knowledge in biomedical sciences (Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, Pathobiology, Biochemistry, Cell
Biology, Genetics, Reproductive Science, Parasitology,
Microbiology, Immunology, Oncology, and/or Transfu-sion Science) to propose the solution of global health
issues through inter- and multidisciplinary approaches
Creatively design research proposal for grant application
Perform qualified research which contributes to the development of biomedical sciences and the improve-
ment of human health.
Apply good laboratory practice for research laboratory management and through collaboration with other
researchers
Effectively communicate both in Indonesian and English language through speaking, writing, and listening using information technology in order to publish their research
in thesis, scientific seminar, and accredited national or
international journal
Implement scientific integrity based on the ethics of science
CONCENTRATION
When the programme was first established, it was entitled
“Post-graduate programme in basic medical sciences”
and offered nine concentrations. In 2000, the programme
title was changed to “Master’s Programme in Biomedical Sciences” along with the establishment of four concentra-
tions* in order to anticipate the increasing needs of more
applied and integrated knowledge that would work in sync with medical science in the era of globalization
Vision
Becoming a leading biomedical education center in Southeast Asia by the year 2019 focusing on translation-al research in order to generate master’s-level graduates with infinite experience and international-standard qualification
Mission
Conducting independent and excellent teaching and learning for master students in biomedical sciences based on translational research in order to generate graduates with the principle of forming research-er through research
Collaborating in education, research, and communi-ty service with other institutions particularly within AHS
Realizing education governance in accordance with the principle of quality assurance
Lecturers
Lecturers for MPBS FMUI is Doctor/PhD degree relevant to the biomedical sciences graduated from qualified national and foreign universities.
Facilities education & research
All educational facilities and laboratories within FMUI (especially Pre-Clinical Science Departments) e.g Indone-sian Medical Education and Research Institute (IMERI), Diagnostic and Research Centre (DIARC), Institute of Human Virology and Cancer Biology (IHVCB), and re-search facilities from affiliated institutions e.g: Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology, Indonesian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Centre– Cipto Mangunkusomo Gen-eral Hospital, Dharmais Cancer Hospital, and related Government of private based research institutions.
Biomedical Sciences
MPBS FMUI comprehensively defines “biomedical sciences” as disciplines of medicine utilizing basic concepts and princi-ples of life sciences (biology, chemistry, and physics) to:
explain phenomenon of life at the molecular, cellular, organ and whole organism level
explain the relationship of those phenomenon with patho-genesis of diseases
discover or develop novel strategies/substances for pre-vention, treatment, and recovery of impairment due to disease
Goal of Studying Biomedical Sciences: To overcome unresolved health/medical problems with clini-cal approaches. Approaches of Biomedical Sciences: Performed through bench work, with biological specimens from patients, animal model or cell culture (in vitro)
Master’s Programme in Biomedical Sciences FMUI
The first graduate programme at UI, which was established in 11 August 1979. From 1990 the name altered into Master’s Programme in Biomedical Sciences which was developed through academic pathway and organized by FMUI.
GRADUATE PROFILE
The MPBS graduates are expected to achieve the learning
outcomes in the respective fields as lecturers, researchers, or
managers at public/private higher education institutions, laboratories, or public officers who determine educational or
research policy related to biomedical sciences.
