MASTER OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY As our world becomes increasingly digitally enabled, there is a high demand from New Zealand employers for ICT graduates. The Wellington ICT Graduate School is creating a diverse supply of industry-ready talent in response to the ICT sector boom that is currently occurring in the Wellington region. The programmes are designed to build on students’ existing talents and skills, providing hands-on experience and real world projects to prepare them to take on jobs in the ICT industry. The Master of Information Technology (MIT) involves course work, practicums, projects and applied research in industry, giving students an opportunity to investigate leading IT developments. The Wellington ICT Graduate School has relationships with a number of leading companies in the ICT sector, and the programmes delivered through the School have been specifically created with industry involvement and reviewed by industry regularly. Students will also have the opportunity to engage with industry and industry leaders through guest lectures, projects, and business networking events. MASTER OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGYThe Master of Information Technology (MIT) has been developed to help students with an undergraduate qualification in Information Technology further develop their skills and career through Master’s study.

PROGRAMME STRUCTUREThe Master of Information Technology (MIT) is an 18 month full-time programme (180 credits). This programme requires a combination of specialised courses plus a research component. Each course in the Master of Information Technology is worth 15 or 30 credits. There are two options for the research component; one is a 45 credit research report and the other a 90 credit thesis.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?The Master of Information Technology has been developed for graduates of Information Technology disciplines who are already working in this area and want to further develop their career through postgraduate study.

All applicants should have a degree or equivalent in Information Technology or related subject with at least a B grade average at Level 7 (or 8) and relevant work or professional experience.

International students require an IELTS 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0) or equivalent.

PROGRAMME OUTLINEFocus your research on the latest developments in your area of speciality. Choose hands-on research relevant to your career from a range of course options including data mining, cloud computing, business analysis, business intelligence, ICT infrastructure, information management, mobile devices, network design and management, security and forensics, quality assurance and system architecture.

Students must achieve 180 credits from the approved level 8 and level 9 papers.

The 180 credits must include:• the compulsory papers IT8501 and IT8502• either IT9501 or IT9502• remaining 60 credits will be completed from

courses within your specialisation.

IT8501 Research in Information Technology(15 credits) aims to provide students with a framework for applied research in information technology through examining research methods and publications, with particular reference to research into the impact of information technology on society. Course contains research methods (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed), research literature, and impact of information technology on society (including digital divide, ethical issues, cultural and gender perspectives, environmental and social challenges).

IT8502 Research Proposal (15 credits) aims to provide students with knowledge and skills in conducting literature reviews, preparing research proposals and addressing ethical issues. Course contains literature searches, criteria for critical review, acknowledging sources, data collection and analysis methods, institutional requirements for approval of research, structure of research proposals, addressing ethical issues.

And one of the following two courses: IT9501 or IT9502

IT9501 (45 credits) is an individual applied research project. A primary academic supervisor and a secondary academic supervisor, with expertise in the chosen research field, supports each student. A project coordinator is assigned to manage the process for students. This course will enable students to undertake professional and applied research that contributes to professional practice in information and communications technology.

IT9502 (90 credits) is an individual research project - thesis. A primary academic supervisor and a secondary academic supervisor, with expertise in the chosen research field supports each student. A project coordinator is assigned to manage the process for students. This course will enable students to plan, execute, and complete publishable applied research that contributes to the knowledge base in information and communication technology.
