Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Enabling Entrepreneurs to Shape a Better World

openSAPhosted by

We already have the technology and knowledge to solve many of the world’s biggest problems,

but that alone is not enough. It needs entrepreneurial people to take those resources and make

change happen. Together with an entrepreneurial approach, mindset, and tools, entrepreneurs

lead to create something new. That is what the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), “Enabling

Entrepreneurs to Shape a Better World“ is about. It’s about impact. It’s about how to create vi-

able solutions for a better world. It’s about practice. It’s interactive. And, above all, it’s free.

We invite people from all academic and professional backgrounds and all regions to join this

unique MOOC because today’s challenges can only be solved by diverse and interdisciplinary

approaches. Over the six-week period, everyone can learn online about what it takes to develop

ideas that have both a sustainable impact for society and a self-sustaining, profitable business

model. You will learn from world-leading experts and practitioners and see inspiring lectures by

active entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs, all from the convenience of your computer or

tablet.

Each week, our MOOC will feature over 20 course presenters, including:

• Prof. Muhammad Yunus: Nobel Peace Prize Laureate of 2006 and founder of Grameen Bank,

the concept of microcredit and social business.

• Ms. Ding Li: Vice President of Non-Profit Incubator – one of the leading supporting organiza-

tions for NGOs and Social Enterprises in China.

• Hedda Pahlson-Moller: Business angel focused on impact investing at the seed capital stage

through Omnisource International. Hedda runs Tiime, a catalyst for social impact.

• Bill Liao: Social networking pioneer, CoderDojo Co-Founder, and investor in the WeForest

Project.

• Alexander Osterwalder: Inventor of the Business Model Canvas and shortlisted for the Think-

ers 50 Innovation Award.

Their lectures will aim to serve as a foundation for both the regular and special tracks.

Regular Track. All participants who enroll in the MOOC will take part in the regular track, which leads

participants through six-weeks of content:

• Week 1 - Entrepreneurship to Foster Societal Change

• Week 2 - Deep Dive into Problem Solving and Ideation

• Week 3 - Innovative Thinking, Approaches and Business Modelling

• Week 4 - Preparation and Testing

• Week 5 - Storytelling and Motivating

• Week 6 - Scaling Sustainably

Participants will view 4-5 weekly lecture videos and take a brief weekly assessment.

Anticipated weekly commitment: 1-2 hours.

Special Track. The special track is an additional opportunity open to a limited number of participants.

Throughout this nine-week course, learners will work in virtual teams and generate – with support

of mentors – their own business models aimed to solve the challenges presented through the topic

of our times, migration. Special track learners will use the real problem-based cases of China, Mexico

and Germany as a source of information and inspiration to think big and find innovative solutions to

the challenges faced by and through migration. Special track participants will be able to participate

in a business model competition, through which one team will be awarded as the project concept

with the most potential for impact and the best financial sustainability. Anticipated weekly commit-

ment, combined with the regular track: 3-5 hours.

Overall, the strength of the MOOC, “Enabling Entrepreneurs to Shape a Better World,” sourc-

es from its truly global perspective. Our MOOC draws upon the expertise of entrepre-

neurs, social entrepreneurs, subject-matter experts, and scholars from around the world.

The MOOC is an initiative of the Global Entrepreneurship Summer School, a joint project of

the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, the Technische Universität München, the Uni-

versity of Applied Sciences, Bundeswehr University Munich, and their entrepreneurship

centers and the Social Entrepreneurship Akademie. Together, the Munich institutions are sup-

porting over 1,500 startups annually. Starting this year, the partnership has grown internation-

ally to include university partners Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico and Tongji University

in China. The MOOC is proudly supported by the SAP Foundation and is integrated into SAP’s

global online learning platform, openSAP.

3 Problem Cases: Challenges of Migration in China, Europe and Mex-icoTo solve the biggest challenges of our time, you need to understand the problem, before you start creating ideas. So that’s what the problem cases are about. We will use as an example the great challenge: MIGRATION. Along the innovation journey, vari-ous experts from Europe, Mexico, and China will take you through the different aspects of the topic. You will learn about the specific situation of Latin American migrants, struggling in Mexico, exploit-ed by drug cartels and lost on their journey towards the big northern dream of making it to the US. Eu-ropean experts will take you on a journey through the front line of the refugee crisis, to small Greek islands, into European registration camps, to border controls in the Alps and to the final destination of all their dreams in Germany. In China, academics, prac-titioners and migrant workers will take you through the booming mega city of Shanghai and through the challenges of a migrant’s daily life in the rural area.
