    FOURTEENTH SUNDAY

IN ORDINARY TIME Lk 10:1-12; 17-20 or 10:1-9

In today’s Gospel passage from Luke, we find our

Lord appointing disciples to go out and prepare others to re-

ceive His invitation to the Kingdom of God. Every verse has

something to say about the way a Christian steward should

approach others. Let’s look at least to one of the coaching tips

    Christ gives.

“The Lord appointed seventy-two others whom He

sent out ahead of Him in pairs to every town and place He in-

tended to visit.“ In His wisdom, Christ sent His disciples out

not as individuals but in pairs, as teams. This approach to

evangelization certainly provided practical advantages. The

disciples could lean on each other for mutual support and en-

couragement, helping each other to stay on task and to put their

heads together to pray and problem-solve. This teamwork ap-

proach is just as relevant to us modern-day Christian stewards.

It takes courage and commitment to go out and invite others

into the Christian life. We need to work together to do it well.

But there is also symbolic importance to working in

teams. It points to the reality that when we invite others to

embrace the Good News of the Gospel, we are not merely in-

viting them into a belief system, but into a relationship with

Christ and through that relationship, into Christ’s family — our

fellow Christian disciples near and far.

Our parish is our immediate spiritual family in this

extended worldwide fold. We are not meant to live as isolated

individuals, within the parish any more than we are meant to

live in isolation within our families. We are meant to be a

community. That is why it is so important for us to foster a

vibrant, supportive, welcoming parish life. This is why we

emphasize hospitality as one of the pillars of stewardship. It is

not enough, just to point others to Christ, we must invite them

to join us in community with Him; we must offer a place and

mission for them in the Church and within our parish family.

    TIME, TALENT & TREASURE

This Week’s Stewardship of Time and Talent

In gratitude for God’s gifts of time and talent to use, we grate-

fully salute our Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion.

    Stewardship Thought for the Week

“The harvest is rich,” Jesus tells the seventy-two in today’s

Gospel, “but the workers are few.” The situation is the same

today. How can I help with God’s harvest? Am I called into

the field? Am I one who could provide food or shelter or wag-

es to those who toil in the field of the Lord?

    Parish Sacrificial Giving

Collection information was not available at the time of this

printing. It will appear in next week’s bulletin

As always, thank you for your generosity to your parish.

    NEXT SUNDAY IS

HOLY NAME SUNDAY The Holy Name Society will meet next

Sunday, July 14th. We will meet for cor -

porate Communion at the 8AM Mass.

There will be a short meeting after the Mass. Please try

to attend and be a part of the veneration of the name of

Our Lord, Jesus Christ. All are welcome.

    2019 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES

    APPEAL UPDATE

as of June 25, 2019 OUR PARISH GOAL THIS YEAR: $78,700

    AMOUNT PLEDGED TO DATE: $56,216

    AMOUNT PAID TO DATE: $44,359

    NUMBER OF GIFTS: 179

Thanking you always for your sacrifice to the

Catholic Ministries Appeal which helps so many.

    YOU CAN MAKE

A DIFFERENCE ... Just a reminder, we still have food

certificates available for our local supermarkets.

Food certificates are the same as gift certificates, only they are

for the supermarkets. We have them for Key Food, King Kul-

len, Best Market, Stop & Shop, Cross Island Fruits and CVS.

Since you have to eat and feed your family, why not help your

parish at the same time? It’s an even exchange. If you give us

$100, we give you $100 in food certificates. They actually

come in denominations from $5 up to $100. Spend whatever

you wish. In turn, the supermarket will give us a 5% rebate.

We have approximately 2,500 families in our parish.

Can you imagine, if each family in our parish used these cer-

tificates on a regular basis to do their food shopping, what the

revenue could be? Our parish will receive 5% of the total

amount of certificates you use. They don’t cost you anything

more than what you would have spent at the store.

You can get them at the Rectory, Monday through

Friday from 9:30AM to 4:30PM and 6PM to 9PM. On Satur-

day from 9:30M to 5:00PM and on Sundays, before or after

you go to Mass from 9AM to 1PM. When purchasing them

from the Rectory, you must pay by check only. They are also

available during school hours at OLP School, which will ac-

    cept cash or check.

JOB OPPORTUNITY A full-time Music Minister for Sacred Heart Parish in

North Merrick is needed. The hours are flexible. Responsibil-

ities include: select music for weekly liturgies; coordinate

organist, choir and cantors for weekly liturgies as well as fu-

nerals and weddings; work in tandem with our Pastoral Team

with regard to Sacraments, and you will be expected to create

and maintain a system to communicate with all the music min-

    isters.
