Volunteers needed to assist with Live-streaming Masses In the coming weeks we will have equipment in place that will enable us to live stream all Masses from our church building. We will need volunteers to operate the “control room” that manages the video streams and sends it to the internet. Training will be provided. If interested in helping with this new ministry, please contact our parish manager, Rudy Geisler, at [email protected] or contact the parish office at 717-766-9433 for additional information.
CHURCH CLEANING ASSISTANCE NEEDED ON SUNDAYS One of the requirements for our church while we are in the green phase, combating COVID-19, is to sanitize the church in between each Mass. The Knights of Columbus are coordinating our sanitizing teams, which should only take about 15-20 minutes after Mass is over. If interested in assisting with this effort please go to our website and use the Time to Sign Up link: https://stjosephmech.org/church-cleaning. You do not have to be affiliated with the Knights of Columbus to assist with this effort. The link will be updated every week! Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Welcome to Saint Joseph Parish! July 26, 2020 www.stjosephmech.org Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time P ARISH TRANSFORMATION:
It’s hard to believe we are entering the final week of July! It’s even harder to believe that we have come to the time when we have to say good-bye to our Seminarians, Dan Kotsko and Mike Kostick! I want to take this time to say THANK YOU to Dan and how grateful we are for all his help during
his stay here. I am sure this summer assignment was not what was expected (especially making videos)! Since May 26th, Dan has been willing and eager to assist us in our Liturgies and Sacraments and various projects he was assigned. His gift of gardening has been a blessing to our parish too. The flowers at the Church are in full bloom thanks to his efforts. Our parish is grateful for your time spent here, your videos, outreach, friendship, but mostly your prayers. We will continue to pray for Dan and Mike and all those in the Seminary. If you wanted to send a card or letter to Dan or Mike, here is the address:
Mount Saint Mary Seminary (Daniel Kotsko) or (Michael Kostick)
16300 Old Emmitsburg Road Emmitsburg, MD 21727
As our parish continues to offer prayers to all those discerning their vocation, please pray the Prayer for Vocations below:
Heavenly Father, We ask you to bless our diocese with selfless hearts that are willing to serve You, by serving Your Church. Lord Jesus raise up from our homes those called by the Father: courageous and humble men to the Priesthood, faithful people to Consecrated Life and holy men and women to the sacrament of Marriage. Holy Spirit, help us to live our universal vocation to holiness, by listening to the Father’s voice and responding with a sacrificial love. Holy Mary, Model of Vocations, teach us to hear and follow your Son. Holy Mary, Queen of Priests, sanctify our priests and obtain for us many more. Holy Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for our families and intercede for our children. Amen.

SAINT JOSEPH CHURCH MECHANICSBURG, PA
Order of Worship 17th Sunday Ordinary Time Entrance Chant • THE GOD OF ALL GRACE
ⴕ INTRODUCTORY RITES
ⴕ THE LITURGY OF THE WORD
First Reading • 1 Kings 3:5, 7-12
The Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. God said, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.” Solomon answered: “O Lord, my God, you have made me, your servant, king to succeed my father David; but I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act. I serve you in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a people so vast that it cannot be numbered or counted. Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong. For who is able to govern this vast people of yours?” The Lord was pleased that Solomon made this request. So God said to him: “Because you have asked for this—not for a
long life for yourself, not for riches, nor for the life of your enemies, but for understanding so that you may know what is
right—I do as you requested. I give you a heart so wise and understanding that there has never been anyone like you up
to now, and after you there will come no one to equal you.”
The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm • R̷ Lord, I love your commands.
Second Reading • Romans 8:28-30
Brothers and sisters: We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his
purpose. For those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the
firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified;
and those he justified he also glorified.
The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
Gospel Acclamation • Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
Gospel • Matthew 13:44-52
Jesus said to his disciples: “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”
“Do you understand all these things?” They answered, “Yes.” And he replied, “Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.”
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Homily
Singing at public Masses: We are told that singing is one of the easiest ways for transmission of the Corona Virus, since more air is pushed from our lungs in this action. We are asked to limit singing to only the Cantor, who is in the choir loft for the entire Mass, at a substantial distance from the congregation. Music is an integral part of the celebration of Mass and we know how much you look forward to participating in our sung worship. However, prudence demands that we limit the role of congregational singing for the present time. Instead, please sing with your heart, and enjoy the fine musical leadership that always comes from the choir loft!

Universal Prayer • Lord, Receive Our Prayer ⴕ THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST Hymn • O HOW BLESSED (The Beatitudes)
ⴕ COMMUNION RITE Communion Hymn • BEHOLD THE LAMB
Spiritual Communion Prayer: My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
ⴕ CONCLUDING RITE Prayer to Saint Michael: Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

ACT OF THANKSGIVING AFTER RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION To be prayed silently after receiving Holy Communion during Mass
O good Jesus, We thank You with all our hearts for giving us Yourself, the Source of all graces, in Holy Communion.
We thank You for all the blessings that we have received from You, especially through the Holy Eucharist, in which You are ever present to console us
and to help us in our needs. In thanksgiving of all Your favors, We offer You all that we are and have.
May Your Will be done in our family and through each of us now and forever. Jesus, receive this poor offering.
What can I give you? I give myself to You, that I may always serve You.
I give You my body, that it may be chaste and pure. I give You my soul, that it may be free from sin.
I give You my heart, that it may always love You. I give You every breath that I shall breathe, and especially my last;
I give You myself in life and in death, that I may be Yours forever and glorify You eternally. AMEN.

Bishop Ronald W. Gainer has announced his invitation to pastors to nominate men who wish to consider the Permanent Diaconate. Approximately 20 men, and if married, accompanied by their spouses, will be admitted to a year of aspirancy (exploration and discernment) beginning January 2021. The program will last a total of five years. Participants will be selected taking into account projected needs of the parishes, ministries, and geography of the Diocese. In addition, they must possess an undergraduate degree, or its equivalent, be able to undertake graduate level studies, and be gainfully employed. Applications must be obtained from the parish pastor after an initial discussion with him. Applications cannot be obtained directly from any Diocesan office. The Diaconate is an order of the Catholic clergy open to married and single men. As such, the Permanent Deacon is a member of the Church's hierarchy, who is configured to Christ the Servant through the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Applications for the Permanent Diaconate will be accepted until September 15, 2020. A rigorous interview process will lead to admission for the 2021 – 2026 program.
