Dear Parishioners,
We receive compliments ALL THE TIME about our
amazing and dynamic Bereavement Team. The ministry is
headed by Diane Hernandez with Nini Rodriguez, Sue Stiles, Carmen Cuaresma,
Jim De John and Virgie Arias assisting. Families share with us how much a
difference these people make in their lives. They meet with the families to discuss
the planning of the funeral here at Holy Family. They listen. They encourage. And
they are the light of Christ to all those who have lost a loved one. They help
coordinate the funeral Masses at Holy Family. In addition, they plan the annual big
All Souls celebration commemorating the deceased who have died in the previous
year. They are a blessing to the parish, and they are all definitely on the way to
sainthood. If you see any of these resident saints, please be sure to give them a
holy hug and let them know how much you appreciate their service to our parish!!
Deacon Ron Baker held a meeting with ushers last Saturday. We are
working on recruitment and enhancing our usher ministry. This is a crucial
component in our parish, and we are always looking for dependable leaders who can
assist us in being a welcoming presence at Holy Family. If you see an usher today
and you think about it, please thank them for their dependability and their “yes” to
being an usher.
Father Dwight Longnecker is headed this way for our annual parish
mission. He is one of our few married priests in the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic
Church. Yes, he is married. Come and hear his story. Mark the date: March 5-7. The
topic is “Walking By Faith.” We begin each night at 7 PM. Each conference finishes
around 8:00 PM. Childcare is provided. Spread the word. Renew your spiritual life
this Lent. Take advantage of the opportunity! There is no charge. Invite your
neighbors, prayer group friends, family members and fellow employees at your place
of work.
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday!
Please note our Mass schedule. Distribution of the ashes takes place at all of the
Masses. Know that you are welcome!!
If you missed it last week: Keep on Rollin’ 2018 takes place on Saturday,
June 9th at 6 PM at the Grade School Auditorium and yard. The honorees have been
selected: Steve Benedict, Deacon Ron and Patti Baker and Tony and Lina Camcam.
We are shaking things up a bit this year. This year the event will include a sit down
dinner.
If you came to Mass on time, give yourself a pat on the back!! Nobody
comes late for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass! We love you and we appreciate your
prayers!!
Winter blessings your way,
Fr. Jim Bevacqua, Pastor

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING SEMINAR
In an effort to give practical help to married and engaged couples to live out
the teaching of the Church, a three-part course on Natural Family Planning is
starting soon. The method that will be taught is called the Sympto-thermal
method which has been scientifically proven to be safe and highly effective in
both achieving and postponing pregnancy. The series will be taught by Couple
to Couple League volunteers Aaron and Michele Kezele.
Dates: Saturdays, February 24th, March 24th and April 28th
Time: 9:30 am to noon
Location: Holy Family Grade School, Room #15
Register for the course online at www.ccli.org. Select “search/register for a class” and enter your zip code to find the
course. Please feel free to contact Michele with any questions.
A decision has been made to suspend the offering of precious blood at all
Masses starting Tuesday, January 30. This is a precaution due to the
severe flu season we are in. We will determine at a later date when we will
resume. During the “Peace be with you”, it is advisable to just maybe wave
or give a sign of peace or smile and nod your head to the people around you
instead of shaking their hands while the flu season lasts.

Holy Family Grade School
Boy Scouts It has been almost a year since the Boy Scouts of America Cub
Scout Pack 689 started at Holy Family, and the pack's enrollment is
thriving! Currently there are approximately 28 boys who are part of
the Holy Family Scout Pack, which was founded by Deacon Ron
Baker and is overseen by HFGS parent Geoff Graham. Pack 689 is
already one of the largest packs of Scouts in the Verdugo Hills
Council, and its success is due to the enthusiasm of the boys and
the profound dedication by the parents who have volunteered
countless hours to serve as Den Leaders, Activities Coordinators,
and Pack Meeting Assistants. The boys, from first through fifth
grades, look forward to each meeting where they learn outdoor skills,
build character, and enjoy fellowship with their brother Scouts. They
are even beginning to work on Catholic badges and awards that are
available through the Boy Scouts. If you would like your son to participate in the Holy Family Pack 689, please contact Mrs. Fatima
Polo (HFGS Office Assistant) at 818.243.9239 Ext. 110 / [email protected] or Steven Hendry (Iron Eyes Cody District
Executive of the BSA Verdugo Hills / [email protected] at 818.243.6282 or come to our informational meeting on
February 20th at 7:00pm in the Holy Family Grade School Auditorium. This program provides a wonderful opportunity to interact
with your son in a new medium and encourages growth both independently as well as with the help of a parent. Holy Family is
proud of the boys in our Pack 689 who are daily living the Scout motto of, "Do Your Best!”

RCIA The Rite of Sending and the Rite of Election
In the Bible, we hear many stories of God choosing a person or even an entire
people. David, the shepherd, was chosen by God to be king of God’s people.
The angel Gabriel brought Mary the news that she had found favor with God and
had been chosen to be the mother of God’s Son. And of course, Jesus is called
the Messiah, the “Chosen one” of God. It is God who chooses. God takes the
initiative and claims a person or a people as his own. Yet God’s choice is always
witnessed by another. God’s choice is witnessed by the church, God’s own
people.
Election begins with God and is witnessed by the church. Election means the act
of choosing those who have been called be God to celebrate the initiation
sacraments, the election is proclaimed by the Archbishop Jose Gomez.
Our catechumens (Greek, meaning “one in whom the word echoes”) and the candidates will celebrate The Rite of
Sending on February 17th at the 5:30pm Mass. The Election of the catechumens will take place at the Cathedral on
Sunday, February 18th at 3:30 pm by Archbishop José Gomez.
The Rite of the Call to Continued Conversion for the candidates will be celebrated at the Cathedral by Archbishop
José Gomez on February 25th at 3:30 pm.
We ask God’s people to please keep our Elect and Candidates in your prayers.

WHO MOVED
MY
CAMPAIGN?
January was to
be the start of
our Parish
Center Capital
Campaign. For
several reasons, we decided to reschedule our public kick off, but we are working hard behind the scenes.
We’ve engaged Pica and Sullivan as our architectural firm. They are busy developing plans that will work for
our community and within our budget. Once the plans are completed and approved we will be able to share
them with you. We have also established a Capital Campaign Task Force which is working hard on
developing the various elements of our marketing strategies.
Perhaps most exciting and important is the upcoming Archdiocesan Capital Campaign that will be officially
launched this year with the participation of all Los Angeles parishes. Our campaign will, therefore, be
supporting both Holy Family and the Archdiocese. Of the money we will raise, some will go to the
Archdiocesan Capital Campaign; the rest will come back to our parish and will be used toward our own capital
campaign.
If you have questions or would like to become more involved with the Capital Campaign, please contact Deacon Ron.
And do stay tuned for more information.

Ministerio Hispano A DIOS TODA
LA GLORIA
Una
característica
peculiar de la
primera parte del
Evangelio según
san Marcos es
que en general
Jesús obra un
milagro y luego
le dice al
beneficiario del
milagro que no
se lo cuente a
nadie. Se ha
especulado
mucho al
respecto: Marcos
Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
