Warm Up

1. The volume of a rectangular prism is 150 cm3. If the length is 5 cm and the width of the

base is 12 cm, what is the height of the prism?

2. Find the volume.

3. Find the radius of a cylinder if the height 3.

To find the density

3- Divide Density = Mass g Volume cm³

1- Find the mass of the object

2- Find the volume of the object

1- Find the mass of the object

ALWAYS REMEMBER UNITS!

Sep 18-9:54 AM

Find the mass of the object

Find the volume of the object

Divide : Density = Mass - Volume

To find density:

Ex. If the mass of an object is 35 grams and it takes up 7 cm3 of space,

calculate the density.

Find the mass of the object

Find the volume of the object Divide : Density = Mass - Volume

To find density:

Ex. If the mass of an object is 35 grams and it takes up 7 cm3 of space,

calculate the density

Set up your density problems like this:

Given: Mass = 35 grams Unknown: Density (g/ cm3) Volume = 7 cm3

Formula: D = M / V

Solution: D = 35g/7 cm3

D = 5 g/cm3

1 Frank has a paper clip. It has a mass of 9g and a volume of 3cm3. What is its

density?

2. Frank also has an eraser. It has a mass of 3g, and a volume of 1cm3. What is its

density?

3. Jack has a rock. The rock has a mass of 6g and a volume of 3cm3. What is the

density of the rock?

4. Jill has a gel pen. The gel pen has a mass of 8g and a volume of 2cm3. What is the

density of the rock?

Practice Problems

Sep 22-6:41 AM

5. A piece of wood that measures 3.0 cm by 6.0 cm by 4.0 cm has a mass of 80.0 grams.

What is the density of the wood? Would the piece of wood float in water?

6. I threw a plastic ball in the pool for my dog to fetch. The mass of the ball was 125 grams. What must the volume be to have a density of 0.500 g/mL.

7. An ice cube measuring 5.80 cm by 5.80 cm by 5.80 cm has a density of 0.917 g/mL. What is the mass?

8. Gasoline is a non-polar liquid that will float on water. 450 grams of gasoline is spilled into a puddle of water. If the density of gasoline is 0.665 g/mL, what volume of gasoline is spilled?
