Fr. David Vivero
vino a buscar y
salvar a los per-
didos". ¡Demostremos al
mundo su amor!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The boundless love that God has for
sinners shows forgiveness, with
open arms even to the worst of us.
In our story today Zacchaeus might
have been the hated man in the communi-
ty as a tax collector, yet Jesus made him
feel special. “Hurry, come down, I must
stay at your house today.” The encounter
with Jesus made him mend his ways. He
saw something more worthwhile in life
than living with his money and posses-
sions. His close contact with Jesus had
awakened in him religious freedom to live
freely with the light of Christ and the
beautiful hope of salvation God gave us. Is
there anybody beyond salvation? The
message of Jesus is clear…the power to
save has no limits, no boundaries. No past
sins are ever shameful, no sin that cannot
be cleansed, “for the Son of Man came to
seek out and save the lost.” Let us show
the world of His love!

Gospel Medita-
tion For Your Day
Christ loves us first. So much of
the Christian life is as simple as
that. Today’s Gospel is a prime ex-
ample! “Now a man there named Zac-
chaeus, who was a chief tax collector
and also a wealthy man … was seeking
to see who Jesus was.” We may have
gotten used to the story of Zacchaeus,
this short, seemingly innocent man
who climbs a sycamore tree in his
desperate desire to see Jesus. But this
colorful, children’s Bible illustration
isn’t what the gathering crowd
would have seen. They would have
seen the white collar criminal. Tax
collectors were notorious for extor-
tion. They were collaborators with
the oppressive Roman overlords,
overcharging for taxes and skimming
a cut off the top. And how does Jesus
respond to this man?
“Come down quickly,” Jesus says,
“for today I must stay at your house.”
If you had been there, would you
have believed it? No doubt there
were other disciples in the city or, at
the very least, kind, generous, and
just people. “Good” people. But
those aren’t the people Jesus chooses
to share a meal with.
Christ loves us first.
He chooses Zacchae-
us even before the
man makes a public
profession of his
repentance.
“The Son of Man has
come to seek and to
save what was lost.”
We may not be tax
collectors and extor-
All Are Welcome Here If you are alienated
or upset, we
welcome you lovingly. If you
are in need of forgiveness, Jesus
forgives you completely—with
unconditional love. If you have
been hurt by the Church, we are
truly sorry. If you are angry,
Jesus offers you peace. If life has
become burdensome, we are
here to support you. We are
happy you are here and want
you to stay. We would like to
share our lives with you. Come
join us each week so we can
worship God together.

WELCOME
tionists — I hope not! — but we all have
elements of our lives that are lost. We
have wounds from childhood, unre-
solved anxieties or attachments, daily
fears. No matter how “put together” we
are, we all have our lost moments.
Some days, it may feel like we can’t see
over the ways they crowd our inner life.
Today’s Gospel invites us to do some-
thing a little strange. Don’t let your
flaws, failures, or hang-ups prevent you
from seeing Jesus. Take a deep breath.
Go climb a tree, because Jesus is pass-
ing by. And he wants to stay in your
heart today.

We Serve... In December of 2014, Kevin Austin noticed
quite a few billboards pop up in Fort Pierce
with the message “Dear Santa, All I want for
Christmas is to skip church! I’m too old for
fairytales.” The billboards were paid for by a
group called American Atheists, who made it a
goal to rival the Knights of Columbus yearly
“Keep Christ in Christmas” campaign.
To defend the message of the nativity, Austin
spent hundreds out of pocket to install a bill-
board of his own. It read, “Merry Christmas!
It’s my birthday. Join the celebration! rsvpje-
sus.org.” Then Austin heard a song by Becky
Kelly and titled ‘Where’s the Line to See Je-
sus?’ As Austin recalled. “A small boy comes
up to a woman in line to see Santa at a mall and
says ‘It’s Christmas, it’s Jesus’ birthday.
Where’s the line to see Jesus?’ I was moved. The
song really says it all.”
This simple, yet profound song inspired Austin
to take action against
the increasing secular-
ism around the
Christmas season.
Austin partnered with
Mike Schmidt, mem-
ber of the Knights of
Columbus Council
7514, to install two
living Nativity Scenes
at malls in Jensen
Con’t. on Pg. 3 Eric & Nadine Austin, playing the role of Mary and Joseph in the living natvity.

We Serve… (Con’t. from Pg. 2)
Beach and Vero Beach in 2011. “We rented space at the malls and had a
‘Line to See Jesus’ in the middle of this public area,” Schmidt said.
The Living Nativities were a huge success. “We elevated the ‘Line to See
Jesus’ to a larger scale event in 2018 at Lawnwood Stadium in Fort Pierce.
There was music, food vendors, Christmas activities, toy and food drives,
prayer and, of course, the Living Nativity,” Austin said. But that night, the
couple and child who were supposed to play the part of the Holy Family in
the Living Nativity were unable to make it. Austin recalled “I was in a
panic thinking of how we could solve this problem, then we noticed anoth-
er couple walking the track with a stroller. So I asked them to be our Mary,
Joseph, and baby Jesus. The mother initially dismissed the idea, but her
husband said he was raised Christian, so he volunteered his family to play
the role of the Holy Family. That evening, his wife expressed to us how
inspired she was by our mission.”
This year, there is a new addition to the billboards and Living Nativity campaign. Aus-
tin has created the Christwreath to represent the “rebirth of Christian family values.”
It is a symbol of the new age for all to see and know that Christ is alive in our com-
munities,” said Austin. Excerpts from Florida Catholic article, by Cecilia Padilla, 10/22/19

Why We Celebrate All Souls Day All Souls Day (Nov. 2nd) is a day in which we remem-
ber the poor souls in purgatory. Many times during
the course of our lives, we remember to pray for cer-
tain loved ones, and maybe the loved ones of our
friends, but seldom do we remember the other poor
souls that need our prayers. These could be those who
have no one to pray for them or those who were lonely in life. On this day
we pray for them and can earn indulgences for them (Nov. 1-8) so that
they might enter into the life of heaven.

"What do you call that thing
that the priest is wearing?"
ALB - The alb is a long, white linen liturgical vestment
with tapered sleeves. It is a garment (or robe) that is
worn by the priest during the Holy Mass. It symboliz-
es the innocence and purity that should adorn the
soul of the priest who ascends the altar.
AMICE - The amice is a liturgical vestment consist-
ing of an oblong piece of white linen that is worn
around the neck and shoulders and partly under the
alb. The amice is associated with the "helm of salva-
tion. "While putting it on, the priest would say,
"Lord, give me strength to conquer the temptations of the devil."
CHAUSIBLE - The chasuble is the vestment that is put
on over all the others during Liturgical services. The
Chasuble symbolizes the virtue of charity, and the
yoke of unselfish service for the Lord, which the
priest assumes at ordination.
CINCTURE - The cincture is the cord used as a
belt to gird the Alb. It symbolizes the virtues
of chastity and continence (meaning "the exer-
cise of self constraint in sexual matters") re-
quired of the priest. It comes in many colors.
STOLE - Roman magistrates wore a long scarf when en-
gaged in their official duties, just as our judges wear a
court gown. Whenever a priest celebrates Mass or admin-
isters the Sacraments, he wears the stole as a sign that he
is occupied with an official priestly duty. When placing
the stole about his neck, in vesting for Mass, the priest
begs God to give him on the last day the 'garment of
immortality' that was forfeited by our sinful first parents.

During this second gathering of the
year, families focused on the Dignity
of the Human Person, while children
learned about the Circle of Grace, a
new safe environment program
launched via the Diocese of Orlando.
Parents in turn went through a por-
tion of the volunteer training for Di-
ocesan Safe Environment. The Circle of
Grace helps adults teach children to
better protect the special person they
are and to be respectful of others. It
helps young people to recognize
when they are safe or unsafe and
know how to bring their concerns,
fears and uncertainties to the trusted
adults in their lives.

DAWG activities continue to center around the major doctrinal themes of our faith. One week partici-
pants took part in a “Hunger Banquet” that focused on the distribution of wealth and a fair living
wage. participants were assigned to a one of three demographic groups and received a meal based on
that particular group’s income: wealthy, middle income or poverty/below poverty group. It was very
interesting to see how this simulation played out. Definitely created some awareness in the teens.

St. Charles Borromeo
T his week’s saint was born in a
castle to an aristo-cratic family. His father was a count, his mother a Medi-ci, and his uncle a pope. He was in-dustrious and ex-tremely bright, and received advanced degrees in theology and law in his na-tive northern Italy. Although he was brilliant, he also suffered from a speech impedi-ment.
While a Cardinal in Rome, Saint Charles kept the Council of Trent in session when at several points it was on the verge of breaking up. Later, in his Archdiocese of Milan, he began the reform needed among both clergy and laity. He set a good example by allotting most of his income to charity. He forbade himself all luxury, and imposed severe penances upon himself. He sacrificed wealth, high honors, esteem, and influence to become poor. During the plague and famine of 1576, Borromeo tried to feed 60,000 to 70,000 people daily. Whereas the civil authorities fled from the plague, he stayed in the city, where he ministered to the sick and the dying, helping those in want.
Saint Charles spent his life and fortune in the service of the larger
church and the people of his diocese. He directed and fervently
enforced the decrees of the Council of Trent, fought tirelessly for
peace in the wake of the storm caused by Martin Luther, founded
schools for the poor, seminaries for clerics, hospitals for the sick,
conducted synods, instituted children‘s Sunday school, did great
public and private penance, and worked among the sick and dy-
ing, leading his people by example.
Work and the heavy burdens of his high office affected Archbish-
op Borromeo’s health, leading to his death from a fever, at the age
of 46. He is the Patron Saint of bishops, cardinals, seminarians, and spiritual leaders.
Sacraments The Sacrament of Reconciliation
Confessions are heard each week on Saturday at the Church
(SR #46) from 3:45 pm to 4:45 pm.
The Sacrament of Baptism
Call the parish office to learn the necessary requirements
and make an appointment to have your child baptized.
The Sacrament of Marriage
Getting married? Congratulations! The process of being
married in the Catholic Church could take between 6
months to a year to complete. Please contact the parish office
as soon as possible after your engagement if you would like
to be married at All Souls Catholic Church.
Anointing of the Sick
Please call the parish office. The Rite of Anointing tells us
there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death
to receive the Sacrament. Did you know that the Sacrament
may be repeated if the person becomes sick again? A person
should be anointed before surgery when a dangerous illness
is the reason for the intervention.

If you are unable to attend Mass, please call the parish office
so we may assist you in having a visit from one of our
ministers or one of our priests.
