So the Christmas festivities are now behind us and we have started a New Year. This is when I ask myself “What does this New Year hold for us as the Catholic Community of Taunton?” Well, hopefully, you will soon see some of the ideas I have been working on over the past few months. The results are that I have reintroduced the Parish Pastoral Council which will meet in February and its role will be to examine the pastoral priorities of the parish. The Council will have a very diverse make-up in order to obtain a decent balance and understanding of the needs of all our parishioners. In addition, I am introducing a Liturgy Group to focus on the main liturgical seasons, in particular the Services at Christmas and Easter. I have also time-tabled all the Parish Finance Committee meetings for the year. As a result of all of the above, I hope that we will have a more unified approach to the various aspects of parish life. I intend that the Minutes taken at each of these meetings will be available on the Parish Website so that parishioners will have a greater understanding, insight and feel better informed on all the aspects of parish life. All being well, this greater flow of information will enable parishioners to comment on what is happening and what is scheduled for the future. Whilst I like to believe that I am full of bright ideas, I am only too well aware that the Holy Spirit works throughout the Church and not just through the clergy. By talking, working and praying together we can more clearly recognise where this Spirit it leading us and where it will challenge us,
so as to respond. Mgr Bernard
