Dear Parishioners, In a few days, we begin the month of November. And the month of November is a month when we PRAY in a very special way for all those dearly departed from our families. Like last week, I would like to renew my invitation for you to reflect on the meaning of offering the sacrifice of the Holy Mass for your loved ones who departed from this life. Why shall we do that? The offering of Mass for the repose of the soul of the faithful de-parted is linked with our belief in Purgatory. We believe that if a per-son has died fundamentally believing in God but with venial sins and the hurt caused by sin, then God in His divine love and mer-cy will first purify the soul. After this purification has been com-pleted, the soul will have the holiness and purity needed to share in the beatific vision in heaven. While each individual stands judg-ment before the Lord and must render an account of his life, the communion of the Church shared on this earth continues, except for those souls dammed to hell. The Vatican Council II affirmed, "This sacred council accepts loyally the venerable faith of our ancestors in the living communion which exists between us and our brothers who are in the glory of heaven or who are yet being purified after their death..." (Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, No. 51). There-fore, just as we pray for each other and share each other's burdens now, the faithful on earth can offer prayers and sacrifices to help the departed souls undergoing purification, and no better prayer could be offered than that of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. According to our Catechism, the Holy Mass transcends time and space, uniting the faithful in heaven, on earth and in purgatory into a Holy Communion, and the Holy Eucharist Itself augments our union with Christ, wipes away venial sins, and presences us from fu-ture mortal sins (cf. Catechism, No. 1391-1396). Therefore, the offer-ing of Mass and other prayers or sacrifices for the intentions of the faithful departed are good and holy acts. This practice is not new. The Catechism asserts, "From the beginning the Church has honored the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for them, above all the Eucharistic Sacrifice, so that, thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God" (No. 1032). The testimony of the Church Fathers beautifully supports this belief: St. Cyril of Jerusalem in one of his many catechetical discourses, explained how at Mass both the living and dead are remembered, and how the Eucharistic Sacrifice of our Lord is of benefit to sinners, living and dead. St. Ambrose (d. 397) preached, "We have loved them during life; let us not abandon them in death, until we have conducted them by our prayers into the house of the Lord." One may wonder, " What if the person's soul has already been puri-fied and gone to heaven?" We on earth know neither the judg-ment of God nor the divine time frame; so, there is always good-ness in remembering our departed and commending them to God through prayer and sacrifice. However, if indeed the departed soul has been purified and now rests in God's presence in heaven/ then those prayers and sacrifices offered benefit the other souls in purgatory through the love and mercy of God. We should always remember our own dearly departed loved ones in the Holy Mass and through our own prayers and sacrifices to help in their gaining eternal rest. I will pray for your beloved dear-ly departed throughout the whole month of October and also take your intentions to the Holy Land.

Mass Intentions October 26th ~ November 2nd, 2019

Queridos feligreses, En unos cuantos días, comenzamos el mes de noviembre. Y es el mes en el que ORAMOS de una manera muy especial por todos aquellos que han fallecido en nuestras familias. Me gustaría invitarlos a reflexionar sobre el significado de ofrecer el sacrificio de la Santa Misa por sus seres queridos que ya no están en esta vida. Comencemos con la pregunta: ¿Por qué debemos hacer eso? La ofrenda de la Misa para el descanso de las almas de los fieles difuntos está relacionada con nuestra creencia en el Purgatorio. Creemos que, si una persona ha muerto creyen-do fundamentalmente en Dios, pero con pecados veniales y el dolor causado por los pecados, entonces Dios en Su di-vino amor y misericordia primero purificará el alma. Una vez que se haya completado esta purificación, el alma tendrá la santi-dad y la pureza necesarias para compartir la visión beatífica en el cielo. Mientras cada individuo es juzgado delante del Señor y debe rendir cuentas de su vida, la comunión com-partida con la Iglesia en esta tierra continúa, a excepción de aquellas almas condenadas al infierno. El Concilio Vaticano II afirmó: "Este sagrado Sínodo recibe con gran piedad la venerable fe de nuestros antepasados acerca del consorcio vital con nuestros hermanos que se hallan en la gloria celeste o que aún están purificándose después de la muerte..." (Constitución dogmática sobre la Iglesia, n. 51). Por lo tanto, así como ahora rezamos unos por los otros y com-partimos las cargas de los demás, los fieles en la tierra pueden ofrecer oraciones y sacrificios para ayudar a las almas difuntas que se someten a la purificación, y no una oración mejor que se pueda ofrecer que la del Sacrificio Sagrado de la Misa. De acuerdo con nuestro Catecismo, la Santa Misa trasciende el tiempo y el espacio, uniendo a los fieles en el cielo, en la tierra y en el purgatorio en una Sagrada Comunión, y la Sagrada Eucaristía en sí misma acrecienta nuestra unión con Cristo, borra los pecados veniales y nos preserva de futuros pecados mortales (cf. Catecismo, n. 1391-1396). Por lo tanto, la ofrenda de misa y otras oraciones o sacrificios por las intenciones de los fieles difuntos son actos buenos y santos. Esta práctica no es nue-va. El Catecismo afirma: "Desde los primeros tiempos, la Iglesia ha honrado la memoria de los difuntos y ha ofrecido sufragios en su favor, en particular el sacrificio eucarístico, para que, una vez purificados, puedan llegar a la visión beatífica de Dios" (No. 1032) El testimonio de los Padres de la Iglesia apoya bellamente esta creencia: San Cirilo de Jerusalén (muerto. 386), en uno de sus muchos discursos catequéticos, explicó como en la Misa se re-cuerda tanto a los vivos como a los muertos, y cómo el Sa-crificio Eucarístico de nuestro Señor es beneficioso para los pecadores, vivos y muertos. San Ambrosio (muerto 397) pre-dicó: "Los hemos amado durante la vida, no los abandonemos en la muerte, hasta que los hayamos llevado a nuestras oracio-nes en la casa del Señor" Uno puede preguntarse: "¿Qué pasa si el alma de la persona ya ha sido purificada y se ha ido al cielo?" Nosotros en la tierra no conocemos ni el juicio de Dios ni los límites del tiempo divino; entonces, siempre hay bondad en recordar a nuestros difuntos y recomendarlos a Dios a través de la ora-ción y el sacrificio. Sin embargo, si efectivamente el alma del difunto ha sido purificada y ahora descansa en la presencia de Dios en el cielo, entonces esas oraciones y sacrificios ofrecidos benefician a las otras almas del purgatorio a través del amor y la misericordia de Dios. Nosotros debemos recordar siempre a nuestros seres queri-dos que han fallecido en la Santa Misa y también mediante nuestras propias oraciones y sacrificios para ayudarles a obtener el descanso eterno. Yo rezaré por sus seres queri-dos difuntos durante todo el mes de noviembre y también llevaré tus intenciones a Tierra Santa.

The liturgical readings of this final month in the Church year are keyed to the end of me and the fulfillment of Jesus saving acts. Nowhere is this more fully celebrated than in Mexico, where November 2 is the Day of the Dead. Missionaries moved an ancient Aztec fes val from midsum-mer to November, linking the fes val to Chris an themes. Today, it is a me for remembering the dead and celebra ng the con nuity of life, principally by fes ve picnics in cemeter-ies. There are special foods and games, and people socialize with other families and tell favorite stories about their dear ones. The sweetness of life is honored by sugary desserts and treats. Flowers, music, lights, and feas ng assure that the day is not at all morbid. Tradi onally, the day begins with Mass, a procession to the cemetery, and a morning feast. Most fami-lies have a special dinner with the pan de muerto, or bread of the dead. A toy skeleton is baked into the loaf, and the one who bites into it is considered lucky indeed. November Intention Envelopes As All Souls Day and the month of November approach, we remember those we have lost

with thoughts prayers and Masses. To join you in remembering your loved ones we will be remembering them at all of the Masses throughout the month of November. We invite you to inscribe the names of those you wish for us to remember and pray for on the special All Souls

Remembrance Envelopes found in the vestibules of the Church. Please place your envelopes in the collection bas-ket, in the special box by the Ambo or bring them to the Parish Office. These envelopes will remain on the altar throughout the month of November and names will be printed in a special book that will be display on our tradi-tional Altar of Remembrance near to St. Clare’s Statue. The Altar of Remembrance will be ready by November 1st. and you are invited to bring photos of your deceased loved ones and place them on the altar. They will remain there during the entire month of November. We have lim-ited space to display them and should not be bigger than 5” by 7”. Please write your name and phone number on the back, so we can return them to you.

S. bishops desig-nated the 28th Sunday of the year for NVAW. In 1997, this cele-bra on was moved to coincide with the Feast of the Bap sm of the Lord, which falls on January 13 in 2013. Beginning in 2014, NVAW was moved to the first full week of November

La Relación con Dios Las lecturas de hoy nos invitan a la oración, hacia una rela-ción con Dios. Pues las relaciones se sienten más naturales cuando conocemos mejor uno con el otro. El libro del Ecle-siástico nos anima a conocer mejor a Dios. En su sabiduría, este libro nos dice cómo es Dios, justo, de mente abierta, compasivo y atento. “El Señor no tarda” dice. Sabiendo que la ayuda de Dios llega en el debido momento, donde sea que la necesitemos, calma nuestros corazones y nos ayuda a confiar en el Señor. En la segunda carta a Timoteo, san Pa-blo demuestra su propia confianza en Dios. A pesar de las luchas agotadoras que san Pablo ha enfrentado a causa de su fe cristiana, él alaba al Señor por haberlo rescatarlo una y otra vez. El Evangelio de hoy nos acerca también a Jesús, revelando su especial amor por los pobres y humildes. Cuan-do Jesús cuenta la parábola acerca de las formas como los fariseos y recolectores de impuestos rezan, nuestros corazo-nes se convierten tan gentiles como los de Cristo. —Copyright © J. S. Vengan a rezar el Rosario durante este mes El Papa San Pío V en su “Bula” de 1569 nos da la siguiente definición: “El rezo del Santo Rosario…es un continuo acto de fe, de esperanza y amor, de adoración y reparación”.

Aun cuando el mes casi termina, los seguimos invitando a que recen el Rosario y mejor aún si es en familia. Aquí en la parroquia lo estamos rezando todos los todos los días, de lunes a domingo, a las 6:30pm, en la capilla de la rectoría. Todos están invitados.

Intenciones de las Misas en Noviembre

Como es ya tradición en nuestra parroquia, los sobres para recordar “Las Almas de los Difuntos” durante todas las misas de noviembre, ya están disponibles en las entradas de la iglesia. Por favor anote claramente el nombre de sus seres queridos en los sobres, ponga su donación adentro, y depo-sítelo en la canasta de la colecta, en la caja especial que esta junto al ambón o llévelo a la oficina. También tendremos el “Altar del Recuerdo” a partir del 1 de noviembre. Se les invita a poner ahí fotos de sus difuntos. Por favor anote su nombre y número de teléfono atrás de cada fotografía. El tamaño máximo de las fotografías es de 5 por 7 pulgadas.

El Día de Todos Los Santos, viernes 1º. de noviembre, es fiesta de guardar y obliga la misa. Tendremos misas en inglés a las

9:00am junto con la escuela y a las 6:30pm; las dos en la iglesia.

Ministerio de Hospitalidad Seguimos pidiendo voluntarios para este ministerio. El primer contacto que uno tiene en la parroquia es con el ministro de hospitalidad. Ellos ayudan a hacer crecer la comunidad, la Iglesia, y el Reino de Dios haciendo sentir en casa a las per-sonas que vienen a misa. Reflexão por; João Arruda As Leituras deste Domingo aponta-nos que Deus é um juiz justo; que aplica uma justiça recta aos seus filhos. Tal como então, a injustiça abunda neste mundo. Todos os dias os meios de comunicação, notificam casos injustos contra os pobres, bigotria contra as pessoas de outras raças e cores, violência sem medida contra os que não são como nós de hábitos sexuais; violência e corrupção contra os imigrantes e refugiados. Muitos questionam-se donde está a justiça de Deus. A resposta está em que lugar nos situamos nessas injustiças? Que posição tomamos em defender os nossos irmãos afectados por essas injustiças? A nossa cristandade revela-se em estar-mos do lado de Deus Pai; temos que proceder e viver a nossa vida de baptizados filhos de Deus. Temos que estar conscientes que o nosso Pai é um Deus de tudo e todos! Sendo assim; temos que estar conscientes das leis que afectam e que são injustas para os mais fracos, os pobres carenciados de tudo, os imigrantes e refugiados. Os governos do tempo de Ben-Sirá e de S. Paulo ; tal como agora, já praticavam injustiças mas as duas leituras nos apontam como Deus é justo e usa de justiça para com todos que a Ele recorrem. Donde existe injustiças, não está Deus. A justiça, sobretudo com os mais frágeis e pobres, é parte integrante do amar a Deus sobre todas as coisas. Meditemos, bem a fundo do nosso interior, da comparação que Jesus faz sobre os comportamentos do fariseu e do publicano! Notícias Mes de Novembro, mês das Almas: Tal como nos anos anteriores, durante esse mês as missas serão dedicadas pelos fiéis defuntos que estão mencionados nos envelopes. Estes encontam-se ás entradas da nossa igreja e depois dos mesmos estarem devidamente preenchidos e com o devido donativo incluso no envelope este pode ser depositado na caixa para este fim que se encontra em frente do ambão. Cozido á Portuguesa O CPP leva a efeita uma promoção de angariamente de fundos no Sábado dia 23 de Novembro próximo. Este evento será constituido por um jantar de cozido á Portuguesa e música de DJ. Os bilhetes podem ser obtidos por qualquer membro do CPP. Mais informações em próximos boletins. Espectáculo de Natal: Marquem os seus calendários para o Sábado dia 21 de Dezembro para o nosso serão comunitário do Natal. Os ensaios com as crianças terão o seu início a partir do próximo mês e as datas e mais detalhes serão publicados neste boletim. Pedia-se aos pais, avós ou familiares para darem o nome das crianças a João Arruda pelo telefone # 408-248-4872. Café Comunitário: No próximo Domingo teremos após a nossa missa o convívio do café no salão anexo a esta igreja. Neste convívio será lembrada de um modo especial a memória do Sro. António Costa.

Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catho-lic community and a commitment in all its dimensions brings you ad-vantages, recognition, and responsibilities of many kinds. Being a regis-tered parishioner makes things much easier when it is time for infant Bap-tism, weddings, when asked to be a Baptismal or Confirmation Sponsor and even funerals. We are often asked to provide affidavits for Baptismal and Confirmation Sponsors. We can only do this if a person is a registered, active and contri-bution member.

So, are you a registered parishioner? If not please consider registering. Registration forms are available in the Parish Office and in the Church vestibule.
